What 560 owners told NHTSA about the 2017 Ford F-350 Super Crew

Doors on truck will not latch as they freeze in the cold weather. This has been an ongoing issue since 2019. I have brought it to the dealership and they say there is no recalls. I have to use a ratchet strap to keep my door from opening! This is extremely unsafe! When you go under Ford’s site there are other trucks having the same issue and they say to go to the dealership to fix the issue. If I were to take my average MPG and use the advertised 36 gallons to figure out how far I would run out of fuel and this would cause the vehicle to stall while driving. 2017 Ford F350 Superduty 6.7L diesel will intermittently surge/buck while towing uphill under load causing loss of power and creating unsafe driving situation. When it happens I’ve also observed electrical power loss to OBD-II port where I have accessory guage installed to monitor critical truck systems like oil temp, trans temp, coolant temp, etc.. No DTC or fault codes are generated when this happens. I haven’t taken to dealer yet but I’ve researched and read lots of truck forums where multiple Ford owners have had the same issue. When they’ve taken their truck to the dealer they’ve been told this is “normal”. I don’t agree and believe this is a serious safety issue to a consumer that suddenly loses all power and must let off all acceleration while other cars are following/around vehicle when vehicle surges. This has now happened four different times and various speeds (30-60 mph).

Truck started doing the death wobble when hitting brakes and sometimes when hitting bumps in the road. Death wobble was very violent and last for a few seconds each time before we could get vehicle stopped. I made my local ford dealer aware of my problem and they inspected it and said it was related to the drive shaft recall. I made the earliesr appointment which was a couple weeks later. I dropped my vehicle off and they said that due to this recall malfunction it had caused damage to my tie rods and drag lengths and those parts needed to be replaced. They said their damage was directly correlated to the drive shaft recall however I would have to pay out of pocket for that to be fixed ($1400). They have had my vehicle for a week and fixed the tire rods and drag lengths but do not have the part for the drive shaft recall. They have no time line for when they will be able to get the part and told me I may come get my vehicle and use it while I wait for the part but I have to sign a waiver stating that it's dangerous to drive. They refuse to give me a loaner vehicle if I would opt to leave my vehicle there while we wait for the part. I'm currently trapped in Texas with 2 horses and can't get back home to Pennsylvania because my vehicle is unsafe to haul the horses back 26 hours.

The truck has multiple leaks when it rains and water is getting inside of the truck through the back window, the sunroof and other places. Water recently go into the radio after a big rain storm and now the radio touch screen is not working. It’s making a crackling sound as if it’s going to start on fire. There was recall for this on other fords but not this specific model but is having the same exact issue. Ford needs to cover this as this is safety hazard. Multiple owners of this specific model have complained and there’s been no resolve.

In November, I accidentally put DEF fluid in the fuel. I took the truck to a dealer for repairs. The check engine light had been on before. They drained the fuel system and replaced filters and such. The check engine light was out. There was no mention of any concerns of any further problems. In February I was driving with a trailer in tow and the truck just turned off in the road. I was not even able to get out of the roadway. At the time the engine shut off a warning light came on to tell me there was reduced engine power. I had the truck towed to another dealer near where I was. They ran diagnostics and changed the fuel filters. No mention of the chance of any continuing problems. The truck shut off in the road again on the way home. I took it to a mechanic near my home. He ran more diagnostics and replaced the fuel rail and other components in the fuel system. Again, no mention of any continuing problems. In April, when I was pulling a trailer again it shut off in the highway again. I had it towed to the mechanic near my house again. He did more diagnostics and said the high pressure fuel pump had gone out and had damaged the injectors. I don't yet have the truck back to see if it will actually run now.

I received a letter in November of 2022 that my 2017 F350 had a recall on the drive shaft and would be available in the 1st quarter of 2023. After taking my truck 3 times to certified Ford repair shops for different reasons I asked about the availability of the recall part and they all treated me like it's not available and it's not a big deal. From March 2023 I started experiencing a vibration under the truck, which got worse daily. The truck pulls a gooseneck trailer and dumpster system which if the drive shaft breaks while driving will affect the safety of other motors or anyone in its path, the truck alone is 12000 lbs. I have called Foord Motor Company and spoken to several representatives and supervisors, the last person I spoke to said the part had to break before they replace it. In April I took the truck to a dealer and it has been sitting at the shop waiting for parts, no one knows when it will be ready or giving me a straight answer. The constant vibration from the drive shaft also caused the differential to be damaged. I use my truck for business and the business is down because of it.

HAD THEM REPLACED AND RESEALED BY FORD AND IN LESS THAN SIX MONTHS THE PROBLEM COMES BACK. I CARRY An AIR COMPRESSOR TO FILL TIRES EVERY WEEK. ASKED FORD ABOUT ISSUE CANNOT GET A ANSWER EXCEPT REPLACE VALVE STEMS AGAIN. AT $75.00 PER WHEEL TIME SIX TIRES ABOUT EVERY SIX MONTHS. CAN YOU PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. THANK YOU.
