I have a 2017 F-350 SuperDuty with the Engine Block Heater option, two recalls have been issued related to a condition that can cause overheating of the power cord with the possibility of a fire. Recall 18V-894 and 19V-278 have both been applied and verified by Ford Customer Service. During the recent cold weather in the Houston, Texas area, the engine block heater was used to keep the engine warm to assist with starting. When I disconnected the power cord the was hot enough to have melted the plug to the point where the blades in the plug were loose and I had to use gloves to separate the engine heater cord from the extension cord. This should have been fixed under one or both of the previous recalls. It represents an electrical hazard that could lead to fire and loss of property. I asked Ford to remedy the situation under case XXX and they have declined to resolve the hazard. Please review this case and have Ford issue a third recall to remedy this safety issue. I have provided pictures to assist in your determination. Regards, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Engine Shuts Off Upon Acceleration on the onramp to a interstate highway causing the Ford f350SD, 6.7L Diesel to come to a stop in the outside lane of Interstate I81. Engine Shutdown happened again on a 2 lane highway while passing a slow farm tractor. The problem has been confirmed by Harrisonburg Ford, Harrisonburg, VA. The high pressure fuel pump is causing metal to be distributed throughout fuel system. The complete contaminated fuel system is required to be replaced by a High Pressure Fuel Pump KIT, which the Dealer ordered against the workorder for my truck. For over a month now, My truck is parked in the dealer storage and stating they are waiting on approval to start repair. Note I have Ford's Extended Warranty. I've read online that many other owners of 6.7L Diesel trucks are having the same problems. I my opinion, a RECALL is certainly justified for this issue.

During recent oil change at a Ford dealership, Ford warned of an Oil Leaknon the “Upper Oil Pan” that could cause a fire and total loss. This problem was due to the improper installation of a gasket sealant at the time of manufacture. 2020 variants of the same vehicle saw the silicone gasket previously being used replaced be a conventional gasket which has rectified the issues being experienced by these models. These affected vehicles could pose a major risk not only the owners but to other motorists in the event a fire spontaneously ignites. They should be recalled and a conventional gasket (as has been implemented by Ford themselves) installed.

2017 Ford F350 Superduty 6.7L diesel will intermittently surge/buck while towing uphill under load causing loss of power and creating unsafe driving situation. When it happens I’ve also observed electrical power loss to OBD-II port where I have accessory guage installed to monitor critical truck systems like oil temp, trans temp, coolant temp, etc.. No DTC or fault codes are generated when this happens. I haven’t taken to dealer yet but I’ve researched and read lots of truck forums where multiple Ford owners have had the same issue. When they’ve taken their truck to the dealer they’ve been told this is “normal”. I don’t agree and believe this is a serious safety issue to a consumer that suddenly loses all power and must let off all acceleration while other cars are following/around vehicle when vehicle surges. This has now happened four different times and various speeds (30-60 mph).

Restricted CCV Separator causing excessive crankcase pressure buildup. 2017-2019 models of this engine have this CCV design, but the Crankcase Oil Separator (containing this part) was redesigned from 2020 forward for the same engine due to excessive complaints of buildup and costly secondary effects such as Charge Air Cooling Tube splits/failures. This modification was never offered to 2017-2019 model year vehicles with this engine. Servicing Dealer indicated that this failure, and secondary failures led to loss of engine oil, which leads to catastrophic engine failure while driving. There are no indications via OBD codes or dash warnings indicating there is an issue, giving a false sense of security to the driver, especially when towing large loads. This problem was discovered on this vehicle during a routine oil change when low engine oil was observed (less than 2 quarts out of 13 quart capacity present in the engine upon attempting to drain).

While driving vehicle down the road, "reduced engine power" light illuminates and then the vehicle stalls in less than five seconds. There is no warning of an issue or any problem before the engine dies. This is the second occurrence of this on the truck. It has happened while towing a heavy load. Total loss of power, sterring and braking ability is a serious issue and a danger to the public as well as myself and my family. This issue needs to be resolved by Ford ASAP!

COOLANT LEAK FROM "TEE" CONNECTIONS ON LINE FROM OVERFLOW BOTTLE ACROSS ENGINE. FORD PART: HC3Z-8075-D. SMELLED COOLANT LEAK WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY. WHILE HUNDREDS OF MILES FROM HOME HAD ONE OF THE HOSE CONNECTIONS AT THE PLASTIC TEE ABOVE THE ENGINE AIR INTAKE COME LOOSE CAUSING COOLANT LEAK. INSPECTED OTHER CONNECTIONS ON BOTH TEE'S AND FOUND ALL TO BE LOOSE AND/OR LEAKING. SECURED ALL HOSE CONNECTIONS (6) ON BOTH TEE'S WITH SCREW TYPE CLAMPS TO GET HOME. FORD HAS USED OETIKER CLAMPS AND SINGLE BARB PLASTIC TEE INSTEAD OF A MORE ROBUST SPRING OR SCREW TYPE CLAMP ON A MULTI BARB CONNECTION.

VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET AND THE FUEL INJECTOR DASH LIGHT APPEARED MOMENTARILY AND THEN DISAPPEARED . SHORTLY AFTERWARDS, I BEGAN TO SENSE THE SLIGHT SMELL OF DIESEL AND JUST AS I TURNED INTO MY HOMES DRIVEWAY THERE WAS A LOUD BURST FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THE TRUCK BEGAN TO SMOKE. I STOPPED AND SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY AND EXITED AS I WAS GOING TO INSPECT THE SITUATION. THERE WERE SCREAMS OF FIRE COMING FROM MY WIFE AS THE TRUCKS ENGINE COMPARTMENT BEGAN TO ROAR WITH FLAMES. ACTION WAS TAKEN TO PUT OUT THE FIRE BUT THE FLAMES WERE TOO STRONG. 911 WAS CALLED AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT BEGAN IN ROUTE TO OUR LOCATION. IN MY ATTEMPTS TO CONTAIN THE FIRE THE TRUCK BEGAN TO ATTEMPT TO START ON ITS OWN. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 3 ATTEMPTS OF THE TRUCK STARTING, THERE WAS ANOTHER LOUD BURST AND MORE FLAMES. AFTERWARDS THE HORN BEGAN TO ALARM FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. WITH THE HELP OF MY NEIGHBORS BETWEEN THE WATER HOSE AND FIRE EXTINGUISHER WE WERE ABLE TO CONTAIN UPON THE 18 MINUTE ARRIVAL TIME OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. IT IS UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME TO WHAT CAUSED THIS FIRE. PLEASE UNDERSTAND MY FRUSTRATIONS AS I TELL YOU MY 2 YEAR OLD SON WAS STRAPPED IN HIS CAR SEAT IN A VEHICLE THAT WAS ON FIRE WHICH WAS ONLY PURCHASED ONLY 6 MONTHS AGO FROM A CERTIFIED FORD DEALERSHIP. THE TRUCK SHUTS OFF AT WHILE RUNNING. THIS HAPPENS AT BOTH HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND WHILE STOPPED. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER BUT THEY CANNOT FIND OUT WHAT HAS HAPPENED. WHEN THE TRUCK SHUTS OF THE STEERING AND BRAKES ARE NOT WORKING TO THE LEVEL THAT IS NEEDED TO STOP THE VEHICLE OR CONTROL THE VEHICLE, AND IT APPEAR THEY ARE POWER ASSISTED FROM THE MOTOR, SO WHEN THE MOTOR STALLS THEY ARE LOST. *TR *DT UPDATED 10/19/18*JB

How to use these: a complaint is one owner’s report, filed voluntarily and published unverified. Patterns matter more than any single story. If several owners describe the same failure at similar mileage, put that system at the top of your pre-purchase inspection list. Back to the full 2017 Ford F-350 Super Crew verdict →
