What 1,066 owners told NHTSA about the 2017 Ford F-150 Supercab

The lead frame in the transmission is going bad and I have seen this happen on the internet with this type truck. You will be running 60 and it will drop into 1 or 2 gear throwing you into the steering wheel. It is for sure a safety issue.

The contact was informed that the dealer was aware of the failure; however, there was no recall for the failure. The manufacturer was also made aware of the failure and provided the same information as the dealer. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

I have several friends who own the same type of vehicle, Ford f150, say they have had similar issues. Mine is a 2017 ecoboost supercab.

Transfer case is actually corroding away and will cause component failure and or/leaks of internal fluid when corrosion causes a hole in the case. Transmission bolts may be experiencing the same issue as well.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle a popping noise was present coming from the front of the vehicle. While reversing into the driveway, the front passenger’s side wheel suddenly detached and folded inside the wheel well. Upon inspection, the contact discovered that the front control arms had fractured and detached from the frame of the vehicle. The vehicle was not yet examined. The manufacture and local dealer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 158,000.

During service for a recall (possible leaking master brake cylinder) the dealership advised me of leakage from an oil pan beneath the engine block. I assumed it was a matter of tightening the attachment bolts or possibly replacing the gasket. I was then informed that Ford glues the pan to the engine block and the oil was seeping through the glue. Further, the repair was to remove the existing pan and the residual glue from the block and replace with a new pan as the glue cannot be removed from the existing pan. The repair was estimated at $950. I have never heard of gluing on that critical part. Glue will eventually fail at which the pan will separate from the block and be ejected onto the street along with oil. As a design engineer I am amazed that glue is an acceptable assembly procedure.

Transmission abruptly shifted down to 1st gear while driving thru a busy intersection. P/R/N/D and gear indicators all starting flashing different positions. Truck came to a fast stop and nearly caused a wreck. My neck still hurts. Gear wrench displayed on dash and check engine light. Took almost two minutes for truck to restart, in the middle of intersection. VERY Dangerous... It generated codes P0706 and p0707. I tried to order the replacement Transmission Lead Frame assembly from Ford and parts man laughed at me and said join the list. They have over 15 trucks in the shop right now waiting for that same part. Sounds like this should be a HUGE recall before a death occurs on the road.

Upon investigation, the contact discovered TSB#19-2188, which he linked to the failure. The contact was given an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000.

The oil pan was replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the oil pan was leaking again. The oil pan was replaced a second time. The contact stated that after receiving another oil change, the contact was informed that the oil pan was leaking again. The oil pan was replaced a third time; however, the failure persisted. The contact returned the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the oil pan needed to be replaced a fourth time. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 45,765.

Mid December in the morning I hit the remote start and took my dog out to use bathroom and i heard a loud bang and when i came back to the truck the rear windshield had exploded… I have 3 cameras that look over the vehicle and after watching video there was nothing that touched or near the truck.. It just explodes and shattered after remote start. It had a strange smell and the rear window where the wires were at was burnt.

Brakes slowly stop holding while at a stop for too long; such as at a red light or waiting for a train, and takes more force from driver to stop vehicle. After inspecting the braking system I found brake fluid leaking between the brake booster and master cylinder. With a little investigating I found Ford already recalled the same part number for other F150 trucks but mine was not in that group from the same model year. The current recall needs to be expanded to cover every truck with that part number. Due to this failure i was involved in a low speed TC in a parking lot when my brakes stopped holding.

My 2017 Ford F150 XLT 3.5 Ecoboost, 10 speed transmission, experienced catastrophic failure recently during a cross country trip from Arizona to South Dakota. Upon driving through Colorado the transmission began shifting very loudly and hard, with a jerking action. The transmission began to shift out've gear into neutral and the engine would increase rpms uncontrollably. Additionally, the truck would roll forward while in reverse and backward while in drive . The Truck would stall in the middle of intersections creating a very dangerous situation if oncoming traffic was approaching. The truck is dangerous to very dangerous to drive. We eventually got the truck to a dealer in Winner, South Dakota, where it is awaiting repair, scheduled for Sep't. 7th and 8th, 2022. All of the above occurred 8/10 and 8/11 of 2022.

2017 Ford f150 super crew 5.0L V8 engine. Started rough idling at stops when in drive about 5 months ago. It started just completely dying while in idle but never threw a check engine light or any code. Ford dealer didn't have an appointment for weeks. We took it to three different licensed mechanics who could not recreate the issue. We just got the truck back after the 4th stay in the shop and the mechanic mentioned the VVT solenoids being bad. There was an issued recall for this exact same problem but not for the 5.0L on 2017 Ford F150. After some more digging, I see hundreds of this exact issue on the Ford forums.

Over the last 6 months the vehicle randomly downshifts to first or second gear while driving. This causes unexpected jerking, as if the brakes were suddenly pressed. At typical road speeds this has caused dangerous situations where the vehicle slows suddenly and/or swerves, putting myself and my passengers, as well as other vehicles in my vicinity in danger. This happens frequently, nearly daily. Sometimes the wrench light will come on on the dashboard, indicating to contact service. The local Ford dealership diagnosed the problem as a faulty Leadframe in the transmission, which I understand was recalled by Ford for the 2013 models. The issues I'm experiencing are exactly the same as what was reported for the 2013 models. I have been waiting on a replacement part from Ford for 2 months. My dealership said there were 5 local trucks recently with this same issue. My truck has 81,000 miles and is out of warranty, but I believe this issue is dangerous and should be covered as a warranty repair or recall.

Unknown start date. Rear sliding window top rail easily pops off rear window. Symptoms could be clattering behind the rear seats, or water leaking into rear window. Other symptoms are loud road noise from the back seat. Rear window can be unseated from the bottom rail and can be dangerous if this happens while passengers are in the back seat or while driving. My passengers were at danger due to the rear window bouncing. Issue is available for inspection. Dealer has not confirmed reproduction of issue. There were no warnings, suddenly I heard loud road noise and clattering when I hit bumps. Ford will not fix this without replacing entire real sliding window.

Yesterday evening, 8/13/2022, I had my family in the F150 TRUCK. We were traveling at 77 mph (in a 70 mph zone) on toll route 576 enroute to Pittsburgh Airport. The F150 TRUCK was on cruise control (this time) when it downshifted from 10th gear to 1st gear. My neck is very sore, now. It continued to mis-shift although no service light illuminated this time. The milage during this incident was 53,809.3 (give or take a mile or two, I don't take pictures when at the wheel of F150 TRUCK) All my family was traumatized again. The truck made it to the airport. Where we picked up our foreign exchange student from Japan named Jua. The ride home, I white knuckled the steering wheel, not knowing when we would go out of control. The truck made it home without causing death to our family or innocent civilians. This is the second time this has occurred. Ford attempted to fix with valve body replacement.
