On [XXX] with an empty vehicle besides I myself the driver, going south bound on [XXX] just north of twin falls Idaho I had cruise control set to 81 MPH when I felt a slow to the vehicle then noticed an uncontrolled/unprompted shift and loss of power indicated on the dash cluster jumping from 10-9-7-10-5-3-8-9 gears then transmission temperature went from 176 degrees to 205 degrees for the remainder of the trip. I proceeded to pull over and let the transmission rest for 45 mins then proceeded with my trip after not seeing any exterior damage or leaks. And it did not shift higher than 9th gear while cruise control was engaged even at lower speeds. The transmission then began to experience harder shifting, and gained a shutter like a clutch pack not engaging properly form 1-3rd gear, and sporadic shifting under light normal driving conditions at random intervals and remains to now have a normal operating temp of 204 degrees under normal driving conditions. Took it to be diagnosed at a ford dealer and it was the CDF drum that lead to a a cascade of issues leading to the transmission needing replacement. Transmission failure. Transmission problems began with the having a significant delay in shifting when cold. This resulted in a safety concern when pulling out into traffic and the vehicle would stop moving. As the problem worsened shift points got harder and the truck computer would show that it was shifting from a high gear to first gear at highway speeds. A reputable transmission shop inspected the vehicle and removed the transmission. They confirmed that a sleeve or bushing in the CDF drum had moved and disrupted oil flow to the clutch packs.

The transmission can behave erratically: Harsh shifting, jerking or lunging, occasional temporary loss of power, gear slipping, difficulty shifting gears, and unexpected movement while driving. I have already had the vehicle inspected and the transmission serviced, but the behavior continues at random times and is difficult to recreate on demand. This poses a potential safety threat to people in this vehicle and those nearby.

While driving in Texas the transmission of my vehicle started to act up. While going up a hill the transmission came out of gear and would not go which almost caused an accident. The transmission is the Ford 10R80 which has had several safety issues. A recall needs to be issued by Ford to fix the issue at Ford's expense. This will cause a serious accident.

Transmission flutters a little before changing from 1st to 2nd gear. In 4th and 5th gear the transmission pauses a few seconds before going into the next gear. From 8th gear to the ninth gear, the transmission jerks really hard. The transmission only has 72000 miles on it. And also the dash board material is coming up.The lane assist jerks really hard sometimes, forcing you in another lane. No warnings or faults during each incidents.

Our home is situated on a blind curve, and the speed limit is 55 mph. When pulling out onto the road, adequate acceleration is necessary to merge with the traffic flow. The truck initially accelerates as expected, then stops accelerating before suddenly jerking forward. Occasionally, it takes several seconds for the vehicle to accelerate, which creates a hazardous situation when approaching traffic is moving at 55 mph. It has not caused an accident yet but it has caused me to adjust my driving and times to use the truck. I use my wife's car (another Ford) most of the time. This hesitation and strange shifting poses safety risks for all road users. On 5/21/2025, I took the truck to Ford dealer, and on 5/30/2025, was informed that major work was required on the transmission and differential, estimated at $12,383.80. Seeking an alternative assessment due to financial considerations, I consulted a specialist who confirmed that the transmission and pinion bearings needed repair or replacement. The vehicle was returned to dealer on 6/4/2025 for differential repairs, completed on 6/13/2025 at a cost of $4,486.26. The transmission repair was not in the budget. Subsequent research indicated that the 10R80 transmission has a record of mechanical issues, service bulletins, recalls, and related legal matters. It appears likely that the jerky shifting of the transmission contributed to the failure of the pinion bearings. Although the truck is out of warranty and has 64,430 miles, given the safety concerns, I request that Ford review my case for assistance with the remaining transmission repairs, in light of documented issues with the 10R80. I request that Ford evaluate this request in consideration of customer satisfaction, public safety, and corporate responsibility. I know Ford is well aware of the problems as there are 474 other complaints on file. They need to step up and do the right thing before this causes serious injuries.

We bought a 2019 F-150 Limited 4x4 last year and we have experienced in the last couple of months we started to experience the truck to skip the shifting on the 10 gear transmission. it skips the gear 2 to 3 and then at 6 to 7, you can experience the pulling on the transmission. it is starting to feel more and more the jerking of the gears and we were advised by a mechanic we called that these trucks from years 2016 to 2019 all are having the same problems. these truck are requiring for the transmission to be overhauled or replace. costing anywhere between 5,000 to 7,000. we were told that it has nothing to do with reprogramming the transmission, the inside components need to be replaced, it seems like when these transmissions were build by ford, the components/parts, seals, gaskets, bands, etc were not properly done. we have found several people in the internet that have had the same problem but it seems like Ford MOtor Company does not want to take liability for the transmissions being assemble incorrectly. it seems like the truck is loosing RPM's and it runs the risk of one day not to drive. It can loose power in the road which can cause accident. we are not financially to get this replaced or repaired and we still have 3 years topay off this truck. I do not know if there are any other complaints against FOrd MOtor Company regarding this but I need to let you all know.

At freeway speeds, truck suddenly started shifting into random gears. It was cruising in 10th gear at about 65-70mph, with trailer in tow, driving normally and fine. Truck started shifted randomly, slipping gears, and going out of gear completely causing power loss. Transmission would then attempt to shift back into gear, all on its own. It would go into 5th through 10 all while slipping back out of gear in between. Some of the down shifts were sudden, and caused me to concentrate to keep the truck and trailer in control. After a few minutes of this, smoke appeared out the back, quite a deal of smoke. It wasn't long until the transmission temperature guage started reading high (but not warning or critical). Then the check engine like came on with "powertrain error". I was able to pull off the freeway, but under duress as it was very busy, and the smoke caused another motorist to pull over and see if I was on fire. It appeared the transmission fluid was "venting" and spraying on the exhaust, and after pulling over it luckily stopped, otherwise I'm sure that oil would have caught fire shortly.

Ford REFUSED to address the known safety issues with the 10R80 10 speed transmission defective CDF drum and defective valve body the whole 42 to times it was taken to the dealership under warranty. Like everyone else with these transmission, Ford and their dealerships continued to lied to all us owners and said it was working fine and there was nothing defective with this transmission.. As of May 23, 2023 Ford issued a TSB 22-2428, TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 10R60/10R80/10R80 MHT Automatic Transmission - Harsh/Delayed Engagement And/Or Harsh/Delayed Shift - Built On Or Before 23-Dec-2022 " Ford issued a TSB and not a recall since they knew the affected vehicles would be out of warranty and they could then charge the owners pay for repair cost of $8,000- $12,000 for a new transmission replacement. Ford refuses to replace these transmission at their expense, if you are out of warranty, which most are unless you have a extend warranty. How it even legal that they aren't required by law to replace these transmission at the full expense of Ford since they clearly sold us vehicles with known defective transmission from the beginning and refused to address when the vehicles were under warranty. Many of us owners can't believe the NHTSA would allow a safety issue like this to continue on our roadways without forcing Ford to recall and replace all these defective transmission at Ford expense.

The transmission began having issues shifting/changing gears at the beginning of March. The gears don't engage correctly, the truck doesn't move, then all of a sudden jerks into position. Very dangerous at the start of a light or turn as the car seems to go; then all of a sudden will not shift and is just stuck in the road. Similar danger when on the highway alongside traffic and the transmission does not easily or smoothly shift, making the truck lose momentum. It is most noticeable in the lower gears. The jerking motion of the truck when it finally catches, or shifts, is quite harsh and abrupt for the truck and driver. There is clunking noise when this happens. The warning lights did not come on prior to the issue or during the initial onset of the issue. It did come on as the condition worsened. The problem is noted with other Ford owners with the same 10R80 transmission. The dealer has inspected and witnessed the issue. Suggested full replacement of the transmission with an new CDF, so the issue doesn't recur. Just outside of the 5yr powertrain( but was within the mileage) so they will not cover any of the cost. If we replace the transmission, it is only guaranteed for two years. Attached is the diagnostic report and options to repair. They have the new, improved transmission in stock.

Bought a 2019 Ford F150 with 32,000 miles. A year later, I noticed a rattling sound coming from engine. Dealership said I had very little oil. No leaks anywhere. Dealership said I had started an oil consumption test at 10,000 miles. I informed Dealership I did not own car at those miles. Went to Dealership I bought vehicle from to inform them that they knowingly sold me a truck with known issues. Using about 1 quart every 1000 miles. Also, after Fords band-aid they put on, seems to be hesitant on acceleration. Dangerous in busy intersections. Ford refuse to fix a known issue with this vehicle.

My 2019 F150 has issues with both the cam phasers and the transmission. Every time I turn on my truck I get the ford “cold start rattle” because defective parts from the factory that ford has known were defective and later fixed but for some reason my truck was not in the recall. My truck came off the same assembly line and time period of previous CSP or recall programs but my vin was never included. My truck also has 60,000 miles and the 10 speed transmission clunks all the time. I’m not sure if it’s missing shifts or what is breaking but everyone with a f150 around this year knows they are common to have transmission issues. Sometimes my truck doesn’t find the proper gear getting started and will rev high and barely move until it finally gets shift right and gets moving. These 2019 F150 issues are far too common i see them all across the blogs and internet and know a few other owners who have similar issues.
