When in drive at any speed the transmission slips and/or jerks as it's switching gears. It is "sluggish" gaining speed at this time especially when accelerating from a stopped position making it dangerous to enter traffic. You never know if when it's going to happen. We have taken this vehicle several times checking for a recall and told there isn't one and it'll cost us thousands to fix. This started occuring less than 1 year after purchasing.

My transmission experienced the same issue that has affected millions of trucks. The transmission started downshifting from 10th to 1st gear while driving. I had it inspected at my local dealer and they informed me that it was a common issue with the clutch drum sleeve. It just cost me $6200.00 dollars to have it fixed. I only had 86,000 miles on the truck. I dont know how thete is not a recall on this, it's dangerous , if I was on the highway this could have caused me to cause and accident either die or get severely injured myself or even other drivers. Please look into this, this issue is beyond ridiculous and dangerous.

Transmission overheated and started sporadically shifting out of nowhere. Going 70mph on the highway in 10th gear and suddenly downshifted to 3rd gear then back to 8th then to 5th then 1st and back to 8th. Truck jerked all around and took all i had to keep it on the road and pull over in a safe manner. Had an independent mechanic come look at it where i pulled over at. He couldn't find any issues. Took it to a local ford dealer afterwards and had them look it over as well and again, they couldn't find any issues.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while shifting from third to fourth gear and while downshifting from fourth to third gear, the rear wheels would lock up without warning. The contact stated that the failure occurred mostly while driving between 20-35 MPH, and normally in stop-and-go traffic. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

Transmission had hard shifts, sticking gears and sudden down shifts. Multiple times the vehicle had gotten stuck in 7th gear. Vehicle had hard shift and delayed shifting while accelerating. On one occasion the vehicle suddenly shifted from 4th gear to 2nd while accelerating. Vehicle is currently in shop due to the danger of driving. These issues have almost caused multiple accidents. We are told we need a new transmission and there are only about 72,000 miles on it.

Had a problem with hard shifting and up and down shifting out of the blue while driving on interstate. Ford recommended a trans service. Had it done 3 days before trip to NC. For Christmas. On our way home the truck started a hard back and forth up and down shifting. We pulled off highway and found trans fluid everywhere. I could not find a leak. Called and got a tow the next morning to a ford dealer in Georgia. Found trans was overfilled. Made it home but trans is still shifting hard and goes into neutral while driving down the road. You need to recall all these 10 speed trans. I was quoted 7,000 dollars for an overhaul and told I may still have the same issue sooner than later.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at 50 MPH on a country road, the transmission failed to shift as needed. The transmission shifted into the fourth gear, then to the eighth gear. The shifter became stuck in fourth gear. The vehicle jerked and hesitated and shifted into neutral without driver input. The message to see the Owner’s Manual light was illuminated but turned on and off. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who informed the contact that it was a characteristic of the transmission and not a failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. While driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle stopped. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. Additionally, there were metal shavings in the clutch fluid. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000. The VIN was not available.

I have a 2019 f-150 Platinum . Bought it 4 months ago and I've put about 9,000 miles on it and the transmission is going out from what the dealer told me. I bought it from the same dealer that told me what's wrong with it. It shuts off in the middle of changing gears while driving down the road. It's happened 4 times. It's very unsafe. The service department at the dealership said something's going on with the admissions that could cuase it to vaper-lock shut down. They estimated the job to cost eight thousand dollars, which I don't have. It had139,000 when I bought it frome them

The transmission over revs between 3rd and 4th gear. It hesitates then loses power, then slams into the next gear. Once in 10th gear it hesitates when trying to pass other vehicles. When decending hills it quickly jumps to second gear causing the wheels to skip or bounce for a few seconds. When merging onto the highway the hesitation nearly got me rearended. The transmission shop is updating the software and changing the fluid. He said most of these need rebuilt when this happens. Ford told me its a new type of transmission and that I will "get use to it". Repair or replacement is anywhere from $4,000 to $9,000, yet ford keeps selling this defective product. There are no indicator / warning lights.

this is a Ford F150 2019, 3.5 L, 10 speed transmission, while driving on a highway, the vehicle was on the 10th gear with a speed of around 70 Miles per hour and suddenly shifted to the first gear with a sudden drop in speed, that have caused me to almost go through the windshield, and the vehicle behind me almost rear ended me, I spoke to the dealer and they advised me not to drive it due to safety concerns that has been reported to them on multiple occasions, and after I gave then the VIN they stated it has not be recalled yet, I took it to the dealer and after 2 months of back and forth with the Ford dealer and Ford motor company, the problem was the transmission and it is in the process for it to be replaced. prior to this incident, the shifting gear was bouncing between gears and lagging for few weeks prior.

1st safety problem is while accelerating, there is a rough shift in gears despite being an automatic transmission. While attempting to gradually and safely accelerate, vehicle causes an abrupt deceleration where rpms drop and vehicle occupants are thrown forward during the process. Vehicle was brought to Ford Dealership for repair. They noted a known issue with transmission and completed a software restart/update. Vehicle gear shift improved slightly for short period of time but eventually resumed and is noticeably worse in colder months. This problem has been noticed while turning, resulting in near misses with oncoming traffic and is concerning when entering/merging with traffic at highway speeds. There were no dashboard warning light indicators at any point. Battery was in good condition. 2nd concern: Engine fire ups up on start but stalls while idling when shifting out of park as well as in stopped traffic. "Auto startstop, shift to P, then restart engine" notification presents on gauge display. This requires multiple attempts to get vehicle restarted with following notification instructions and shutting off/restarting engine. Disengaging auto startstop on startup is inconclusive about remedying the situation. Battery was tested as good but replaced anyway due to age to rule out battery related concerns. Contacted Ford dealership service department and they replied, "they have never heard of it happening." They denied knowledge of any TSB, CSP or recalls/complaints about the issue. However, it appears this issue is well documented on multiple Ford models and various production years. Other than instrument/gauge display of "Auto startstop, shift to P, then restart engine" occurring after the fact, there is no warning light indicators. Safety is at risk due to stoppage of traffic and loss of power/ability to accelerate or maneuver vehicle in traffic situations to include clearing intersections with oncoming traffic while turning at low speeds/idling.

My 2019 Ford F150 XLT, began having transmission issues in June of 2024 around the same time the cam phasers failed in the engine (~57K miles). Because the cam phaser failure was the more pressing and unavoidable issue, the dealership focused on the cam phaser repair and ignored my complaints about the transmission shifting hard between 2nd and 4th gear. Within that same month I also had the transmission fluid flushed ~40K miles before recommendation to see if that would resolve the hard and inconsistent shifting issue. It did not, and the dealer stated they could not replicate the problem. Unfortunately the problem became worse, including inconsistent shifting between multiple gears, the transmission "stalling" while it tried to determine which gear to shift to, along with extremely hard "whiplash-like" shifting into gears. These driving conditions resulted in me almost being rear ended several times while trying to enter onto the interstate as cars were accelerating behind me on the on-ramp, while my truck begins a quick deceleration due to missing gears, downshifting and even spinning in a "neutral-like" state while it tries to figure out what gear to shift into. After a couple more visits to the dealership, in which their scanners could not replicate my issues, I was sent on my way to keep driving an unsafe vehicle until either it caused an accident or my transmission completely failed. Fortunately for others, it was the latter situation in which my transmission failed (1st time a warning light appeared) in a hospital parking garage on March 6, 2025, versus me causing an accident. However, all of this could have been avoided if Ford and my local dealership addressed the known issues with the 10R80 10-speed transmission in the 2017-2020 Ford F150 and many other models. The $13K repair bill now that Ford pushed me beyond my powertrain warranty aside, this Ford transmission is EXTREMELY dangerous to the driver and the general public.

The 10 speed transmission failed at 30k miles and they replaced it. Now at 70k it is failing again. It is available for inspection now. My families safety was at risk when the shifting fails while crossing an intersection or when violently downshifting while cruising at 40mph. The problem has been reproduced by the dealer. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone other than Ford dealership and my mechanic. At 70k there have been no warning lights or messages displayed on the console.
