I was notified that my 2023 Silverado had an open recall (L87 Engine loss of propulsion). I brought the truck to the dealer for the recall on 8/19 with 35,921 miles on the vehicle. The inspection was performed and I was told it passed. When I asked about the extended special coverage they told me they didn't know what I was talking about. Only 4 months and 4,567 miles later, on 12/29, the vehicle shutdown in traffic and was not able to restart. The engine had failed and the starter fuse blew due to the motor being seized. The dealer relaced the engine due to the same recall that the engine had already been inspected and passed the inspection for.

A few times before engine locked up, i was driving and out of no where it would shut off/lose all engine power and woukd shift to N automaticlly. Those 2 times it happend on the highway had to pull over to be able to turn it on again. The 3rd time it was at a busy intersection all 3 times i was with my wife and kids so was very dangerous. 3rd time it never turned on again with a low oil pressure message. Got it towed to the dealership and they told me the engine was locked up. So now at the dealer getting a new engine and radiator ect.

I have an 2023 L87 engine that could stop functioning at any moment. I'm retired and bought this vehicle as my last truck. I don't feel safe driving it on long trips which is why I bought it. Also the transmission shifts rough from 1st to 2nd when I accelerate. When I inquired about the transmission problem at the dealership the showed me a letter sized notice saying this might be a problem. But I was not notified about this when I purchased the truck. I would prefer to just return the truck as I have it financed with GM Financial with no money down and am willing to just eat what I have already paid to get out of this ticking time bomb which I'm not comfortable driving long distance as [XXX]. Please advise. Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

was crossing an intersection when the truck suddenly and without warning stopped (engine). Unable to shift the truck into neutral in order to move the truck out of the flow of traffic. This is because the truck has the electronic shifter which requires the truck to be running in order to shift. There is not a manual override. So basically the truck was in the middle of an intersection with cars and trucks weaving around it until the tow truck arrived. But since the truck wasn’t able to be shifter into neutral the tow truck had to maneuver around to the front and “drag the truck onto a flat bed in order to clear the vehicle. Also it turns out that there is a major issue with the fuel pump module on these trucks and the tow truck driver said he has seen this happen a lot and very common. As a result these types of issues are likely to result in a near of fatal accident in the near future.

While driving and idling, my 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country equipped with the 6.2L v8 engine began experiencing a persistent audible ticking/clicking noise from the engine bay, rough idle during cold starts, and noticeable/abnormal engine vibration. Shortly after, the check engine light came on. When scanned, diagnostic codes P0304 (Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected) and P050D (Cold start Rough Idle) were retrieved. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Chevrolet dealership, and the service advisor and technician confirmed hearing a consistent clicking noise and documented that they contacted GM's Technical Assistance Center (TAC case #80413912). The service order report states: "Due to unknown noise cannot perform recall. Called TAC 80413912 and was told need to figure out top end noise and misfire before proceeding with recall. If repairs are related to top end, will not be covered under recall." The technician indicated this could be related to a camshaft and lifter issue, which matches the symptoms outlined in GM's active propulsion system recall for 6.2L engines. Suggests GM aware & has not yet confirmed full recall coverage/repairs. This issue presents a significant safety risk because the engine could experience sudden power loss or failure while driving, potentially leading to loss of propulsion or control. These symptoms are identical to those described by GM in their recall documentation concerning valve lifter and camshaft failures. The issue has been reproduced and confirmed by the dealership, and all documentation, diagnostics reports, and service notes are available for inspection upon request. Warning/check-engine lights first appeared in October 2025, and the problem persists. Based on GM's recall acknowledgment of similar failures, I believe this defect should be fully covered under the existing recall, and I am requesting NHTSA's review to ensure manufacturer addresses this safety-related defect promptly and without cost to owners.

Driving at highway speeds, truck downshifted to low gear causing a sudden deceleration and check engine light appeared along with 'Service Transmission' message. Was almost rear ended by multiple cars, but was able to guide truck to the shoulder through traffic. Shut down truck and restarted with message still appearing although gear shifting seemed to be normal. After stopping at a gas station to look up error, on next restart error cleared and truck drove for almost a week without issue and ~300-400 miles. Once again driving at highway speeds the same scenario happened with downshift in heavy traffic and had to pull to the shoulder. Waiting to bring to dealer, but mileage on truck is just over the 60,000 mi warranty period. Codes on reader indicate P0700 and P0747.

While driving at low speeds with light acceleration, the truck seems to sputter. When activating trailer mode this issue stops leading me to believe there is an issue with the torque converter. By searching forums, this seems to be a known issue with these vehicles. With it being as widespread as it is, I fell like this constitutes some sort of recall or customer satisfaction type of action.

The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country has experienced multiple powertrain and transmission failures beginning shortly after purchase. The issues include violent shifting, hesitation, and stalling, particularly while accelerating or decelerating. These malfunctions create serious safety risks—especially when merging, turning left across traffic, or entering intersections. The truck has been returned to authorized GM dealerships multiple times for diagnostics and repair. GM service departments confirmed transmission faults but have not successfully resolved the issue despite repeated attempts. The same problems reoccur shortly after each repair. At times, the vehicle has entered “limp mode” unexpectedly while driving, causing a loss of power. On at least one occasion, this occurred while driving on a busy highway, forcing evasive action to avoid a collision. Warning lights such as the “check engine” light and service alerts frequently appear before or during these incidents. To date, the vehicle has been inspected by GM-certified technicians at authorized dealerships. A case has been opened with GM customer care and BBB AUTO LINE arbitration has been initiated. The truck remains unreliable and unsafe to operate, especially with children on board. The risk of sudden power loss or drivetrain malfunction poses a clear hazard to occupants and other drivers.

The vehicle has been exhibiting occasional hard shifts over the last 2-3 months. Over the last 2-3 weeks the frequency has increased. While operating the vehicle at approximately 30 mph the rear wheels temporarily locked during one of these events while my wife was operating the vehicle. There was no indication that this was going to happen and no indication after the event. We took the vehicle to the dealership where they performed a diagnostic but found nothing wrong. In the week since picking up the vehicle I have been operating it. I experienced two occasions where upon trying to accelerate at approximately 30 mph there was a severe jolt that caused the traction control warning light to flash. This was under minor acceleration just to maintain speed when going uphill. There was no indication prior to the event and once it had concluded the lights went off. I also experienced an occurrence of the rear wheels locking temporarily. I was traveling at approximately 40 mph on flat ground and gently stepped on the accelerator to maintain my speed in traffic. The rear tires locked for 1-2 seconds to the point the tires were squealing and you could smell burning rubber. There was no indication prior to the event that it was coming. Given my necessary reaction I was unable to see if there were any indicators or warnings present. Following the event there were no indicators illuminated. Outside of these events the vehicle seems to operate normally. It runs well and generally shifts smooth. However, the rear wheels locking up unexpectedly presents an unacceptable hazard that is not resulting in any evidence that the dealer can use to troubleshoot.

Over the past 4–6 months, the transmission in my 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has repeatedly failed in a way that creates a serious safety hazard. On multiple occasions while driving at highway speeds, the transmission has locked up the rear end, causing a sudden and violent loss of control. These incidents nearly resulted in collisions and could have caused serious injury or death. The truck will no longer shift at all and is now completely inoperable. These failures happen without warning and present a severe risk of total loss of vehicle control. Date(s) of Incident: Multiple occurrences between approximately March 2025 and August 2025 (exact dates unknown). Dealer / Manufacturer Response: I contacted Chevrolet Customer Care and multiple Chevrolet dealerships in my area (including John Megel Chevrolet, Dawsonville, GA). My most recent case was closed without resolution. I have been denied a loaner or reimbursement for a rental vehicle, and I have been told that the repair could take at least a month before even being assessed, with additional delays for parts. Consequence: This is not only a serious safety hazard but also a severe financial and employment hardship. I rely on this truck for my job, and without it, I cannot work. I am now three months behind on my truck payments and other bills, and I am on the verge of losing my job because I have no transportation. GM’s failure to repair or provide alternate transportation has left me stranded, financially unstable, and at risk of unemployment — all while the vehicle remains under an extended warranty. Request to NHTSA: I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether this defect is part of a wider safety issue affecting 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 transmissions and determine if a safety recall is warranted.

Engine coolant valve failure causing vehicle to go into reduced power mode while traveling on highway causing vehicle to travel at a slow unsafe speed in relation to other traffic. Check engine light activated, reduced power activated. Chevrolet dealership confirmed engine coolant control valve issue. Engine control valve must be replaced before vehicle can be driven. Engine Coolant control valve is on back order. No part replacement time frame due to back order. Safety concerns with reduced power mode on roadway with speed limits greater than 45 mph.

While driving 55 mph and towing my boat on a 2 lane paved road , I started up a slight incline and the transmission downshifted so hard that the rear wheels locked up long enough to throw us into the dash even with seat belts on. I turned around an drove back home with it locking up again. No codes or lights on the dash. Took it to dealer June 26,2025 for dealer to diagnose issue. They kept it overnight and drove it about 60 miles, called me the next day to pick it up saying they could not duplicate the rear wheel lockup and since there were no codes there was nothing to fix. Tried to tell me it was my boat trailer causing the issue. Boat trailer has surge brakes, nothing electrical on trailer brakes. Over the next couple days the rear wheels locked up 2 more times. Always as I started up an incline going around 50-55 mph. No lights or codes July 2, 2025 we recorded on video 2 rear wheel lockups with the second lockup starting a slight fishtail on dry pavement and leaving a 5 foot skid mark. Went back to the dealership with the video and they said again if there are no codes they can’t fix it and they would try to duplicate the issue for me to leave the truck and not give me a rental vehicle , and no timeline on how long they would try to duplicate the issue. I did not leave my truck there and they kept promising to call me when they had a loaner vehicle for me to use. On July 14, 2025 ,while still waiting for a loaner vehicle the transmission finally locked up the rear wheels and check engine light came on. My mileage was 43078, it took 1,193 miles to finally throw codes that the dealership would fix. Codes were P0700 and P0747. These are same codes for safety recalls N242454440 and N242454441. Obviously my vin is not included in the recalls but the dealership should have put the software on my truck the first time I was there on June 27th, the same day they completed the Pa.state inspection on my vehicle. I wouldn’t have had to experience this unsafe conditions.

The fuel pump went out, left me stranded and was replaced The transmission went out and was replaced. The lifters in the engine were replaced. When will the engine recall be addressed/acted on? The "cure" to install heavier engine oil is a very bad "bandaid"....truly masks the problem. Maybe the Chevy CEO should return her 2024 $25mm bonus to help pay for the repairs.

The vehicle is now at the dealer for the second time regarding transmission shifting issues. First visit I was told they can find nothing wrong despite my experiencing transmission slipping, loud clanking on shifting, and severe jolting when shifting. While having a travel trailer hitched to the truck after the first visit, I experienced all the same issues with the addition of transmission overheating warnings on the dashboard and near complete stoppage of the vehicle at highway speed. The same dealer now says the transmission "valve body" is defective and is being ordered. Due to Towing a trailer with this truck (much lighter than rated capacity) I have the transmission fluid changed on nearly every oil change. The Transmission filter has been changed on the recommendation of my mechanic, strictly due to quantity of fluid changes.
