Engine stopped while driving. Truck made dinging noise. Dash had no warning lights. Dash said need to press start button to turn on. Truck went into neutral by itself. Was able to pull over and put it in park. Tried to push the start button and nothing. Dealership said it needs a new motor. The truck has less than 10k miles. The motor has already been replaced once before at 4070 miles.

A valve on the 3.0L Duramax is allegedly sticking, causing the vehicle to go into limp mode or be inoperable. This is a known issue for GM and they have issued a service bulletin on it. Unfortunately, no dealers want to address the issue and now we are left with a vehicle that if we do not pay to repair, after it being ours for only 5 days, the vehicle will be unusable. This vehicle is under warranty still and this part is needed for operation. I believe this avoidance of a recall is harming customers and creating pay to drive schemes. This needs to be addressed before thousands of customers begin paying for a repair that GM knows is their fault.

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 MPH with his wife and grandchildren inside the vehicle, the check engine warning light, collision warning light, and several other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the message "Braking System Failure - Do not exceed 62 MPH" and the trailer brake message was displayed. The contact continued to drive the vehicle; however, whenever the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to slow as intended. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that a software update was needed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 54,000.

My truck has the L87 motor on recall. i purchased it brand new and paid top dollar for it. I've had issues since I've bought it. All of my maintenance has always been done at the dealership from regular maintenance to purchasing brand new tires. I am very disappointed to have a truck that concerns to drive, i do not take my family out in my truck because i am not confident in its reliability and safety. multiple times i've taken my truck in for service and let them know to complete an oil change, tire rotation and to check an issue with a "tick, clunk and knock" just to be told it was "normal for the 6.2". my normal dealership has blocked off appointments online and you'd have to call to try to set one up. I demanded a diagnostic one time when the truck was acting weird and the tech stated "stop by, i'll squeeze you in" in which i did. however, i wasn't given any documentation since "i didn't have an appointment". After reviewing all of my service records, i come to notice not once time did they mention they did a diagnostic check. Only the recall test shows on one of the service records. I've had 3 different viscosity oils in my motor from the dealer stating GM recommended it. I had to night drop my truck on June 14 as it was making a weird noise from the engine and it felt like it had less power. I waited 2 days and the dealer did not contact to even state they have my truck in service. when i called to ask the status i had to agree to text message communication in which they replied, "at best it will take 2 weeks just to look at it". I asked for a loaner since i need a truck for work and transportation, they replied they do not have any and I will be placed on a list. My truck is still under original powertrain warranty and they cannot even provide a loaner. i feel that they are brushing me off to buy time and here i am making hefty car and insurance payments for a truck i do not have nor a truck that I NEED to provide for my family. GM does not care!

6/12/26 ( 2023 Chevy Silverado - 6.2 liter engine) While driving at approximately 40 MPH on a two lane road, the truck shut off. After multiple attempts, the engine failed to restart. The transmission locked up in park and would not release. This required the truck to be dragged up on the flat bed wrecker instead of rolling freely. Prior to this instance there have been several issues with the electrical system. 1. radio sound shuts off. does not come back on. 2. Head lights stay on for 10 minutes after vehicle is turn off. 3. Tail gate opens on it own. Tail gate doesn't open with fob. 4. door locks fail to operate correctly. 5. When drivers door is opened a beeping sound starts and doesn't stop until door is closed. I have reported these problems to GM & have two case numbers. The dealership reports that the 6.2 replacement engines have had multiple failures.

ON MONDAY, 6/15/26, WITH APPROX 45,400 MILES, I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND TRUCK SAID SERVICE TRANSMISSION. THE GEARS WOULD SHIFT, BUT IT LAGGED A LITTLE BIT. I SCHEDULED AN APPT FOR TWO DAYS LATER, AND ONLY DROVE IT WHEN I ABSOLUTELY HAD TO, WHICH WAS ONLY TWICE BEFORE MY SCHEDULED APPT. I GET IN IT TO DRIVE AND IT SAYS SERVICE TRANSMISSION- UNABLE TO SHIFT SOON, THEN ON MY WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP, IT SAYS ALL OF THAT, PLUS SERVICE DRIVER ASSIST SYSTEM. CHAVY'S QUALITY ASSURANCE TEAM NEEDS TO GET IT TOGETHER! THIS IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS.

While traveling on the interstate towing a fifth-wheel camper going 55 mph, a message appeared on the dash instructing me to press the Start button. I pressed the Start button, but the vehicle would not start. When I pressed the Start button the entire instrument cluster and navigation display went out. We were able to safely coast to the breakdown lane, skidding to a stop. We remained in the breakdown lane on a busy highway on a holiday weekend in 90+ degree heat for 7+ hours before being towed to a nearby dealership. When the right type of tow truck arrived (capable of towing the truck and camper off the highway), the driver had to remove the driveshaft before the vehicle could be towed to the nearby dealership. This is because of the electronic shift. If the vehicle is not running it cannot be shifted out of park without a special tool. We felt very unsafe sitting in the breakdown lane with cars whizzing by shaking our camper and vehicle at each vehicle passing. Not 1 time did the police stop to provide assistance/make sure all were ok, etc. The vehicle has since been towed to the local dealership and after they inspected the vehicle it was determined the engine seized due to debris in the engine. A replacement engine is on backorder. The engine had already been inspected for the recall and GM 6.2L L87 "fix" was performed, but this did not stop the engine from seizing.

At approximately 24,000 miles the engine had catastrophic failure under normal street/highway driving conditions. The engine is the 6.2L V8. The issue began with a high pitch squeal or chirping sound and noticeable power loss. I parked the truck over night and then drove it to the dealer first thing the next morning. While on the way to the dealership, which was less than 20 miles away, the engine began having much bigger issues. A loud knocking noise was apparent and the rear end began locking up causing the tires to also lock up. Once at the dealership the engine completely failed and locked up. The engine did have the newly recommended 0W-40 oil installed prior to the failure.

I was travelling on the highway at approximately 72 miles an hour in the left lane trying to pass a vehicle in the right lane. while accelerating my truck was like the brakes were slammed on and all kinds of lights starting flashing. This included the check engine light, low oil pressure light and lane assist lights. The truck shifted into Neutral and I could not place back into drive. I swerved and almost lost control of the vehicle and nearly missed colliding with the safety rails on the left of the road and then with the car on the right side. I then pulled onto the shoulder after nearly being rear ended by another vehicle approaching on the left. The vehicle would not react to the gas pedal. I pulled onto the shoulder and turned the vehicle off. Tried to restart but again nothing but mutliple lights and warnings. I checked my app for Chevrolet and it stated that the vehicle needed engine and transmission system service. Variable valve timing system needs serviced. Ingition system needed serviced. The onstar diagnostic alert indicated P0016 was detected. I opened the hood to inspect and the coolant overflow was spewing coolant. I checked the oil level at that point and it was just a little below full. I had taken this vehicle into the dealership two other times stating that the vehicle had stalled before on the highway but not to this degree. The other two times it stalled when accelerating it would allow me to pull over and restart. But both of those times I never had any flashing lights or diagnostic codes. I explained this to the dealership and how unsafe it was. Both of those times almost ended in a vehicle accident with other vehicles around me. The dealership said they could not diagnose any issues unless the truck created a diagnostic code. These issues have been ongoing with these vehicles for a long time and the dealership just did not want to deal with them. I had the vehicle go thru the recall diagnostic tests. It did not fix them

While driving, the vehicle suddenly displayed “Service ESC” and “Service Traction Control” warnings. Shortly after, the engine stalled and the vehicle became difficult to restart. Vehicle experienced rough running/misfires and loss of power. Diagnostic trouble codes retrieved included P0300, P0106, P3498, P00FF, and U1962. The issue appears intermittent but creates a serious safety concern due to unexpected stalling while driving. Concerned about possible electrical, engine management, or stability control system failure affecting safe operation of the vehicle. No prior warning before incident.

Yes, dealership where originally purchased. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Inspected at dealership by GM/Chevrolet technician. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? None prior to failure Detailed description: On 5/21/2026, during normal driving, the engine in my truck lost propulsion due to a major internal failure. This is a 2023 General Motors 6.2L (L87) engine that was inspected at the dealership where it was originally purchased for the previously issued NHTSA "loss of propulsion" recall and passed without any noted issues. This engine only has ~20,000 miles on it. The engine failed in relatively heavy traffic and could have easily resulted in a serious accident due to inability to route my vehicle to a safe area while under power. This all happened without any prior warning, no check engine lights, noises or lamps or symptoms. The dash simply illuminated with a "Press Start" message. The truck was towed to the dealer for evaluation. The dealer called me today (5/26/2026) stating the engine was seized and a new engine would have to be ordered from GM for installation. This event occurred while the vehicle (2023 Silverado ZR2) is still under the original 36 month/36,000 mile warranty.

I am reporting another engine failure on the 6.2L L87. This engine passed the initial recall testing and the oil was changed to 0W40 on September 30, 2025. However, my engine in my 2023 LT Trail Boss started knocking on Friday, March 20, 2026 (at 22,500 miles) after I picked up my children from school. Thankfully it started as I pulled into my driveway with them so they weren’t in any danger. No loss of power on the truck or warning lights visible. However, it was loud enough and odd enough for my [XXX] olds to even notice the sound in the cab. It was dropped off at the dealership on that Saturday morning and the GM dealership was finally able to look at it on Wednesday, March 25th and confirmed what was expected. The advisor stated the engine will need to be replaced due to the engine heading towards bearing/crankshaft failure. I am still currently without my truck as of today (April 4th) with no repair date in sight. I will say that the dealership service advisor has been very good about communicating about its status. However, he stated that he has had no luck finding an new engine and is unable to give a timetable in getting one. He did offer to start a PO for a rental car through enterprise. He stated they are not giving loaners, but could get a rental car. He also stated that it would not be a truck due to GM only giving $50 per day towards a rental. So here I sit currently without my truck. I see multiple reports about the engines being on back order and even the replacement engines are failing within the fist 500 miles. Some reports indicating they are on the third or fourth engine. Something needs to done about getting these trucks bought back by GM. They have clearly failed with this engine and are replacing the failed engines with the same thing! It is a well documented manufacturing flaw and design! I am thankful it occurred near my home. I would not have been happy with a catastrophic failure on a highway with my [XXX] old children in the truck!! I'm reporting a 5mpg fuel economy reduction immediately following the 6.2L L87 engine recall (NHTSA #24V795000). I use 93 octane and monitor my fuel mileage consistently. I bragged about my fuel economy in my 6.2l until after the recall was applied. This is going to cause a financial hardship as I'm on fixed income after Servicing 29 years in the Army and 100% disabled. There is no other reason my mpg should have changed as my driving habits have not.

While driving on the freeway without warning, my engine stopped working. My vehicle was towed to the Chevy dealership where they confirmed that I was the latest victim of the ongoing engine failure problem with the 6.2 L engine. There was no warning, no sign that I had a problem. My engine just simply stopped working on a busy freeway. I was barely able to make it to the shoulder where I had merging traffic coming on the freeway behind me. I’m deeply concerned that Chevy will replace it with the same faulty engine and I will be put in the same danger situation again in the future.

My engine completely died, and a complete loss of propulsion happened. My safety was put at risk due to no power while on busy highway. This problem with L87 engines (6.2) has been reported extensively. The vehicle was inspected for GM Program # N252494000, NHTSA 25V74 for above issues and was inspected on 2025-08-28. Inspection passed, but the failure ultimatel happened on 2025-02-25. Dealer indicated engine was covered under original powertrain warranty and GM would send a remanufactured engine. Dealer has still not received the engine as of Monday (2/23), which is almost a month later. While driving on a US highway in a rural area, my engine suddenly died while driving approximately 60mph. The restart engine light came on, and I quickly was unsure what was happening as I felt myself slowing down slightly after realizing I had no power and the engine would not restart. I believe it went to neutral automatically. I was in the inside lane, and it was incredibly dangerous due to traffic around me. I could not easily exit to side of road due to the traffic, but luckily a gap formed, and I was able to abruptly get off the road. I have kids in the car daily, and this would have been life threatening had it happen in any other scenario, or especially in a larger city or busier highway. I am confident this is related to GM's issues with the 6.2 liter engines. I have a 2023 Silverado 1500 ZR2 that this happened to. The loss of propulsion is clearly due to the defect in these engines.

Driving at highway speeds the message center prompted us to restart the truck and put itself into neutral. Upon attempting to do so, the message center read conditions not correct to shift. We were traveling in a single lane highway thankfully on a decent where we coasted into a parking lot. The truck list all power steering and brakes. We turned the truck off and attempted to restart. Lights were randomly flickering on and off, but the starter couldn’t turn the engine over. After 3 hours of waiting on Chevrolet roadside assistance we obtained our own tow service. The truck tires had seized up causing the driver to drag the truck into the flatbed. The emergency brake kept resetting itself. The following day 7/13 Chevrolet had the truck towed to the dealership. On Monday 7/16 we were informed the engine had catastrophic failure with less than 24k miles. This is the second major engine breakdown as the first was at 5k miles where one side of the engine had collapsed lifters. Engines are on back order but in reviewing other experiences the replacements experience the same issues. The truck is not a safe vehicle to drive.

The vehicle is currently exhibiting a loud, rhythmic metallic ticking/tapping noise from the top of the engine. This is a known precursor to a sudden, catastrophic loss of motive power as documented in GM Service Bulletins PIP5847A and PIP6101. The cause is attributed to manufacturing debris within the hydraulic valve lash adjusters, which prevents proper lubrication and causes valvetrain desynchronization. This defect leads to severe engine misfires (DTC P0300), "Reduced Engine Power" mode, and potential engine seizure. 1. Component/System: The 2.7L L3B Engine Valvetrain / Hydraulic Lash Adjusters. The vehicle is available for inspection. 2. Safety Risk: The audible ticking indicates imminent mechanical failure. This defect causes sudden and unexpected loss of motive power at highway speeds. Driving in this condition puts me at extreme risk of being stranded in active traffic or losing power while merging/passing, creating an immediate risk of high-speed rear-end collisions. GM is aware of this debris-related defect via TSBs but has not issued a safety recall to prevent the resulting power loss. 3. Dealer Confirmation: Yes, confirmed by Chevrolet dealer on 3/18/26. The dealer knows about this particular issue, and decided not to act. 4. Inspection History: Inspected by authorized Chevrolet service technician. 5. Warning Symptoms: Loud metallic ticking/clacking that increases with engine RPM. This is a known precursor to a sudden, catastrophic loss of motive power as documented in GM Service Bulletins PIP5847A and PIP6101.
