I have a complaint about GM and my 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ regarding the radio / infotainment system failure after attempting a recommended software update, and the resulting degradation of installed safety features. On 08 MAY 2026, my infotainment system indicated a software update was necessary, so I followed the directions to complete the update. When the update was complete, my infotainment screen said there was a failure and to take it to the dealership for repair. The entire infotainement system is inoperative. The soonest appointment I could make was for 18 MAY 2026. On 18 MAY 2026, I took my Silverado into the dealership where I have it serviced to address the failure of my infotainment system. My service advisor informed me that I would need a new radio and that these radios are on a national backorder list. My advisor informed me that they have other customers who are experiencing the same issue and have been waiting for the replacement radio since January 2026. My advisor informs me that there is no estimated time of resolution. This defect inhibits safety features such as; use of OnStar, Google and Apple Maps that provide travel advisory hazards, parking camera views, vehicle systems status. Thank you.

On 4/09/26, while visiting friends near the border in [XXX] from [XXX] and driving on a dry paved road we lost the ability to stop the truck and engage the brake system. To avoid a crash, I drove the truck up onto the sidewalk and closed my eyes. Fortunately we did not crash into stopped cars but the truck does not work and it has body damage to all sides. Now when the key is in forward collision system unavailable, service traction control and service ESC shows on dash. Truck is unsafe and a hazard on the road. A call to GM has been made waiting on a response. Gm case#XXX. Truck is 2023 with 62k miles. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Vehicle has experienced repeated electrical and safety system failures since purchase in 2023. Affected systems include forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring, parking sensors, cameras, and infotainment. Failures include complete loss of camera functionality (rear and front), infotainment system shutdowns or resets while driving, loss of audio, and volume malfunctioning (including sudden increases or no response). The vehicle has also generated false safety alerts, including forward collision warnings and blind spot alerts when no hazard was present. These issues have occurred while the vehicle was in operation, creating safety risks due to loss of visibility systems and unreliable warning alerts. In multiple instances, the system would become completely non-functional for extended periods, sometimes lasting days or weeks, before temporarily returning. The problem has been reported to a dealership multiple times and has been inspected and serviced. Repairs have included software updates and component-related work; however, the issues have continued to persist or reoccur. The failures are intermittent but recurring and have not been permanently resolved despite multiple repair attempts. The condition reduces driver confidence and creates unsafe operating conditions due to unreliable safety systems and loss of critical features while driving.

The adaptive cruse control will apply the brakes driving, it happens when driving and there is nothing in my lane as far as the eye can see. Sometimes the Silverado will go from 70 mph to 30-40 or less and back to 70. Most of the time it will apply the brakes for a sec and then off. One time it locked up the brakes from the low 60 ish MPH to almost stoped before I could get control. Every time this happens there is no cars, or abstractions in my lane. I have had the Silverado into 2 dealers for this problem about 25 times and they can not fix the problem and I have been told that they are done working on it and they can not find the problem and I will have to live with it. I don't fell safe driving it and have told that to them. I have asked many time to have a GM Engineer look at my Silverado and find the problem and they did nothing to resolve the problem. I need to a get this problem addressed before I cause an accident or am in one. I also have many other problems that they cannot resolve, The Blind spot mirrors light will go off all the time with nothing there or a car will pass on the left side and both the left and right mirror lights will go off. The Bluetooth will disconnect from the Silverado and the person I am talking to can hear me just fine and the call is no longer over the speakers in the Silverado it is on the ear piece of my phone and then will go back to the speakers on the Silverado. I will get an alarm that says "Take Wheel" with hands at 10 and 2 on steering wheel looking straight ahead. Get an alarm that have trailer light problem and will turn on blinker and it will flash quickly for 10 seconds and then is normal. Radio skips on FM, AM, XM, MP3 Player at times. The Silverado has spent over 4 months and 25 times at a dealer since I bought it new and they have nor been able to resolve any of the problems and I have been told by GM that they are done working on this truck and they can not find the problems. Thank You

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while pulling into a parking space and turning the steering wheel to the right, the vehicle surged forward going up onto the curb, and the contact depressed the brake pedal; however, the vehicle failed to stop. The contact continued to depress the brake pedal however, the vehicle continued driving approximately 5-10 MPH. The contact shifted into neutral(N); however, it was too late, and the vehicle crashed into another parked vehicle before coming to a stop. The contact stated that during the failure, the braking system had malfunctioned while depressing the brake pedal. No injuries were reported. A Police report was filed at the scene. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The contact stated that one week before the failure, at almost the same spot, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the Forward Collision Avoidance warning light illuminated and remained illuminated without another vehicle being nearby. The contact turned off the vehicle, exited the vehicle and inspected the vehicle before re-entering and restarting the vehicle, and the Forward Collision Avoidance warning light remained illuminated. The contact turned and restarted the vehicle and the warning light was no longer illuminated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000.

When all the brake settings are set to factory and I back out of my vehicle onto the main road in front of my driveway the vehicle will occasionally detect something and lock the vehicle in park with emergency brake engaged. I then have to put the vehicle in drive all this while oncoming traffic may or may not be oncoming. The brake engagement happens if the corn in the field is blowing the right way or shadows from the tress. I had this into the dealer and also contacted the manufacture. They both told me to turn off all the safety features so this wouldn't happen or do not back out of my driveway.

As also reported by another owner in NHTSA ID Number: 11602844, I have found several times that while driving on I-80 at or near speed limit with adaptive cruise control on and no traffic, no weather, dry pavement, that the truck suddenly applied the brakes hard. There was nothing on or upcoming in the road, the sides of the road were desert and near the road was clear. Over the course of the past year this has happened probably half a dozen times.

This weekend while traveling on I95N I got into a wreck with automatic cruise control on. I had been in stop and go traffic for about 20 minutes and was following behind a Gatormade hauling trailer for well over a mile with no issues. Suddenly, from a dead stop, the truck attempted to accelerate to its preset speed of 50 mph. I was only one car length away from the trailer and wasn't covering the break. By the time I got my foot on the break, I slammed in the back of the trailer. At no point did the emergency brake warning or any alerts pop up.

On our road trip back home driving on the highway using the adaptive cruise control set to the speed limit and it’s night. Clear night and no traffic or rain. The truck applied brakes hard and dropped about 12 miles per hour. Another hour later same thing happened. I was fortunate to avoid the car behind me. There was nothing on the road ahead of me.

On [XXX], while driving 70 mph on [XXX] towards Weatherford, Texas. There was an unoccupied vehicle parked on the shoulder of the highway that was at least 15 feet from my lane. The automatic braking system slammed on the brakes unexpectedly. On [XXX] while driving 65 mph on Highway [XXX] from Cleburne Texas to Fort Worth Texas, a Texas Department of Public Safety (Highway Patrol) was parked on the shoulder of the North bound lane. Right as I was about to drive past the State Trooper, the automatic braking system slammed on the brakes unexpectedly again. I was then pulled over by the State Trooper, I explained what had happened, and he let me leave without writing a ticket. The automatic emergency breaking never worked. I took it to the dealership and they told me the computer didn't show anything wrong. I could tell the safety features weren't behaving properly though. While I was driving the breaks completely failed. Luckily I controlled the vehicle to a stop. Every light on the dash was on. I turned the of and restarted it. When I did the break peddle pumped repeatedly on its own hard back at me and made an awful noise. The check engine light came on and stayed on. From that point I tried to get to a safe location to call a tow truck to take the truck back to the dealership. While I drove I managed to get some video of the detection system as I closed distance to the vehicle ahead it saying the gap was widening and the car right in front of me would disappear. Then as the vehicle would pull away, the sensors would say the gap was closing. My safety and others was absolutely put at risk. If anyone would have been ahead of me when the breaks failed it would have been a deadly colission. After I told the dealership there was an issue and they told me I was wrong, then this happened, they have confirmed there is a problem and have had the truck for over a week trying to repair it. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance reps. There was no warning lamps prior to the failure. The only symptom was that the safety features that were stated to be on the vehicle never worked. The truck was specifically marked to have automatic breaking, safety assist, front pedestrian breaking, following distance indicator, and forward colission alert that never worked on a brand new vehicle that never worked from the day I purchased the vehicle. I did report it by calling and even bringing the truck in to be looked at and I was told there was "no issue" by the dealership. Then the break failure took place.

I was driving Eastbound on highway 150 on my way to work. I have adaptive cruise control in my truck and have used it many times before on this exact road with no issues. Traffic was moving slow and the adaptive cruise control was following the car in front of me exactly how it is designed to do (ACC can be turned on at speeds as low as 5 mph in this vehicle and can come to a complete stop and restart movement from a complete stop). I drove through a section of this road right after the lake crossing where the morning sun was pretty bright directly facing us for a few seconds. During this time my foot was off of the accelerator and brake as instructed by the vehicle manual for safe operation of the ACC system. In these few seconds the truck unexpectedly accelerated aggressively with no warning and before I had a chance to react the truck rear ended another vehicle, pushing it into the car in front of them as well. I have been found liable so far by insurance. I am trying to argue on my behalf. I firmly believe I am not personally liable for this accident. The system in the truck is supposed to fail safe (meaning when meeting uncertain variables, such as low camera visibility, the vehicle should disengage the ACC instead of aggressively accelerating with no information of what is in front of it) and it did not in this circumstance. As stated, I had no input to the accelerator or the brake at the time of the accident according to the owners manual safe operation of this system. The vehicle FAILED to disengage the ACC system as it was supposed to and caused an accident I had NO TIME to react to by aggressively accelerating without any warning. The vehicle has been appraised for repair by the insurance company and was found to have $7000 in damages.
