[XXX] my 2019 ford f350 extended cab 4x4 6.7 diesel engine caught fire while i was driving on [XXX] i was pulling a small gooseneck horse trailer with 2 live horses inside. I was traveling at 60mph. no modifications to the truck, everything stock. a car pulled along side me pointing to the front of the truck yelling your on fire. immediately got off on an exit ramp, the truck engine died and i lost all power . i tried to put it in park nothing happened. the truck and trailer started to roll backwards off an embankment. i got the emergency brake on. my wife and i exited the truck the whole front end was on fire 50 ft + flames . we got the horses out and away .according to parkhills mo. fire dept truck burned to the ground in less than 15 minutes. they stated it was a fuel fed fire. all the fire crew and responding police officers stated it was a common occurrence for that model ford to catch fire . this truck had 19,967 miles no modifications. no warnings ,no fuel smells .nothing to indicate any problems. truck went from running perfect to burned up in less than 15 minutes. total loss of the truck along with all my personal belongings. we were lucky ourselves and our horses escaped. Due to a recall, the Vehicle computer was reprogrammed by local dealer, Griffith Ford, in San Marcos, Texas. After the reprogramming, the engine and transmission starting to rev differently and could not shift gears smoothly as previous to the reprogramming. The transmission and engine does not synchronize correctly. The transmission tries to do more than 6 speeds when the transmission is a 6 speed transmission. Turbo is also not as smooth as previously. Possibly the new program used to reprogram the computer is either for newer vehicles with different engines and/or transmissions.

The contacts stated that he and his wife who was the front passenger occupant were able to unload their horses from the trailer just in time, as the entire truck engulfed in flames all within ten minutes. The origin of the fire was undetermined. No injuries were sustained. The location of the fire was the front of the vehicle. The fire department arrived to extinguish the fire. A fire department report was filed. A police department report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The remains of the vehicle were towed to a local towing company's lot. The local dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 19,000.

It was the worst feeling I have ever experienced. I have been driving for over 45 years and this is the scariest situation I have faced. This happened again a few days later, however it was at only 50 MPH and in a banking turn. I was able to get over to shoulder again. My F350 has 56,000 miles. I have good tires, and the air pressure was correct both times it happened. I have an appointment to take my vehicle to the dealer.

After doing some research it seams to be a very common problem that ford will not fully address. They put a bandage over a serious issue. They put me, my family and others in very serious danger. It took everything I had to keep us from going in the ditch. A vehicle with only 13000 miles on it should not experience something like this.

In June 2024, I experienced serious sustained steering wheel oscillation to the point of having to stop the vehicle while traveling over 70 mph to regain control before proceeding on my way. I scheduled an appointment with my dealer (Woody Anderson Ford, Huntsville, AL) after July 4th weekend and was assigned an appointment date of August 9, 2024 at 10:00am. In May 2024, after traveling about 47 mph over a semi-diagonal railroad tracks on level pavement, the steering became violent but was recoverable after reducing speed to under 20 mph. This was the second instance. In March 2024, after transitioning across a section of highway in town at about +/- 45 mph, which the highway had appeared to have been poorly repaired my steering began to oscillate but I was able to recover with no concern. This was the first instance.

The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a cracked fuel filter. The contact was informed that the fuel filter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously serviced by an independent mechanic and the fuel filter was replaced several days before the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that the new fuel filter had only 600 miles before the failure occurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.

When you drive this truck for extended periods of time the entire instrument cluster shuts off loosing blinkers lights and any indication of speed, among that if you're towing a trailer the trailer lights shut off, ford has tried fixing it under warranty to no avail, now the truck is out of warranty and the issue is getting worse and they're not sure what's wrong. When taken into Ford they sated the fuel pressure pump and fuel rail were damaged due to pump sending metal shaving throughout the fuel system. I have found out through research that this is a common occurrence due to a faulty pump that was originally installed in the trucks around these dates. No recall or alert has been given to owner buying these vehicles and now requires a very expensive repair to correct (with a whole different type of pump) and avoid future issues.

While on a ramp to merge onto a highway, slightly downhill, a small ripple in the pavement joint caused the front wheels and steering wheel to shake violently and nearly lost control of the vehicle. Was traveling at approximately 40-50mph and could not steer the truck and the out of control shaking did not stop until I was able to slow to maybe 5-10mph. I was towing a trailer and if I had not been on a wide roadway late at night, going straight with little traffic around me, it's very likely I would have had a serious accident. The truck has 40,000 miles on it and tires etc are in good condition as this is a federal government owned and maintained vehicle. I see no recalls or service bulletins for the vin, but found hundreds of complaints online of the exact situation and referred to as out of control "death wobble". This is a serious issue and people will very likely be in serious and fatal accidents if not already.
