On 5/27/26, when the car was parked in parking lot, received an alert on dashboard, "check electric vehicle system", when the car was turned on. The car would not shift in to drive or reverse so had to get towed to nearby Hyundai dealership. The EV system was recalibrated and test driven 122 miles to verify proper operation. Then on 6/23/26, when driving on road received an alert on dashboard "power limited". The car would not accelerate and had to get it towed again to same dealership. The dealership performed tests on ICCU and 12V battery but came back negative.

During routine driving, the vehicle suddenly displayed an electrical system. Error code followed several minutes later by a 12-volt battery error. The vehicle was stopped and turned off. When turned back on all warnings disappeared and vehicle was returned to service for approximately 3 MI before warnings appeared again. Vehicle was then parked as it entered limp mode with a maximum speed of 11 mph. manufacturers roadside assistance was called and arrived to jumpstart the 12-volt battery which resulted in the vehicle turning on but not charging despite sufficient charge in the high voltage battery. Vehicle was stranded in a secure parking lot after hours with Windows unable to be closed and doors unable to lock. The vehicle is immobilized due to being unable to put the vehicle into neutral to move it to a suitable location for a tow. Vehicle was certified by dealership as a certified pre-owned vehicle approximately 45 days ago. All listed recalls have been checked and no undue stress has been placed on the vehicle since purchase. Vehicle stranded to adults and one toddler in 80 plus degree heat without any ability to remove the car to a safe location or secure transportation to an appropriate business.

This is an EV . We use the regenerative braking to slow down. This car has both a front and rear dash cam. The car is about two and a half years old and has about 20,800 miles. We were approaching a red traffic light with several vehicles stopped in front of us. My partner was driving and had slowed to 8 mph, with her foot off the accelerator, advancing slowly towards the car in front of us when the vehicle experienced unanticipated, rapid acceleration. With quick reflexes, she was able brake hard and avoided a collision. Ten minutes later she was parking at our house, going 4 mph and it did it again, coming within four feet of the building. Neither time was she touching the accelerator, but the car accelerated like the accelerator was pressed to the floor. This is very dangerous.

On June 13, 2026, my 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 experienced a sudden and dangerous propulsion failure while in active motion. The vehicle had approximately 9,447 miles on it and was at 58% battery charge at the time of the incident. The vehicle was leased in January 2025 and has been serviced exclusively at the Hyundai dealership. While driving with two occupants, the vehicle abruptly lost all ability to accelerate. The dashboard displayed a critical warning: “Stop vehicle and check power supply” along with a red battery icon. This failure occurred without warning and immediately placed us in danger of being struck by surrounding traffic, as the vehicle could no longer maintain speed or respond to throttle input. I was able to coast the vehicle off the roadway. Shortly after stopping, the vehicle issued an additional warning stating that auxiliary functions were draining the battery. Within moments, the vehicle shut itself down completely. This left both occupants stranded in extreme heat (over 100°F) with no air conditioning, no ventilation, and no ability to restart or power the vehicle while waiting for rescue. This created a serious risk of heat-related medical distress in addition to the initial roadway hazard. The vehicle’s complete loss of propulsion followed by a full electrical shutdown represents a severe safety defect. At no point should an electric vehicle with more than half a charge and fewer than 10,000 miles lose propulsion during active driving or shut down all systems while occupants are inside. This incident posed a significant risk of collision, injury, or heat-related harm. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this failure mode, as it may indicate a broader defect affecting the propulsion or battery management systems of the Hyundai Ioniq 5. The vehicle is currently at the Hyundai dealership undergoing diagnostics and they confirmed they had difficulty jumping it to move it from where the tow truck had parked it on arrival.

I am writing regarding a very serious and frightening safety incident involving my 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5. While driving through a busy intersection in California, the vehicle displayed the warning message: “Stop vehicle and check power supply.” Within approximately one minute of that warning appearing, the vehicle completely lost power and became inoperable in the middle of the intersection. The shutdown occurred without warning and created an extremely dangerous situation. The vehicle’s hazard lights would not function because the car appeared to be entirely without power. Traffic continued moving around me while I was stranded in the intersection, and I genuinely feared that another vehicle could collide with me. I ultimately called 911 because the situation was unsafe and I could not move the vehicle. Police responded and directed traffic until the vehicle could be towed. Hyundai dealership had the vehicle for 22 days and diagnosed it as a faulty ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) which they replaced for no charge. This incident has caused me to lose confidence in the safety and reliability of this vehicle. A complete loss of propulsion in active traffic — especially accompanied by failure of the hazard system — is an unacceptable safety risk. I no longer feel safe driving this vehicle. Hyundai of America would not let me cancel the lease early due to safety concerns.

This is the second time the ICCU failed. The car is waiting for a full EV battery replacement. The first time the failure happened on 12/11/25, at 9,165 miles, the alert happened just before the car came to a full stop as we were driving along the road near our house, it was very difficult to steer, we were sort of stopped in the road and had to get it towed. The second time the alert came on 4/16/26 and we were able to get it to the dealer.

The vehicle flashed a warning and suddenly lost power, forcing me to pull over or be stuck in the middle of the road. The vehicle could no longer be driven, as this problem occurred quickly after subsequent restarts. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership, who confirmed it was a broken ICCU, and stated that this had been happening a lot to the Ioniq5s. The replacement part was on backorder. It ended up taking nearly 60 days for the replacement to arrive and to be installed.

I was driving and the vehicle was operating as expected in normal conditions when I heard a loud pop sound, followed by an alert on my car infotainment to pull over and inspect the 12v battery. "12 volt battery low. Stop safely" I turned the car around to drive back home. The car wouldn't go any faster than 40mph. Once parking the car back home, the car would not turn on anymore. This is congruent with what I've been reading online about other Hyundai Ioniq 5 drivers experiencing when the ICCU in the car fails, requiring Hyundai to fix it.

There was a failure of the ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) on my Ioniq 5 that forced me to pull off the highway after my car was no longer able to accelerate past 40 or so MPH. After I pulled off the highway I was then only able to accelerate to around 15 MPH which made it difficult to find a place to safely pull off the road until the vehicle made a complete stop and I had to wait for a tow.

I lease a 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 AWD. Prior to a planned trip, the vehicle displayed an electrical system warning. I contacted the dealership and was advised to bring it in. While driving approximately 5 miles to the dealership, the vehicle lost all power including hazard lights, leaving me stranded on a busy road. I contacted roadside assistance and the vehicle was towed to the dealership. The dealership confirmed the failure was caused by the ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit). The repair took approximately two weeks. The vehicle was unavailable during this time, requiring a rental car. Hyundai partially reimbursed rental costs but did not compensate for other losses incurred. The failure rendered the vehicle inoperable without warning, requiring it to be towed to a dealership. The vehicle is currently located at AutoNation Hyundai in North Richland Hills, TX and should be available for inspection upon request. This failure created a significant safety risk. The vehicle lost functionality unexpectedly, which could have resulted in a dangerous situation if it had occurred at highway speeds, in traffic, or in an unsafe location. A sudden loss of power or inability to restart the vehicle presents a clear hazard to both the driver and others on the road. Prior to the failure, there were no clear warnings indicating an imminent critical issue. My on Thursday, April 2, my 2024 Hyunda Ioniq 5 displayed the "Check Electrical System" message displayed. I had just started the car. I started to lose propulsion on a busy street [XXX] ). I managed to get the car to [XXX] and had to pull over. I had the car towed to the Luther Hyundai, [XXX] . On Monday, April 6, the dealer informed me the ICCU failed. The ICCU and a fuse were replaced. I picked up the car April 7. Although Hyundai has supposedly fixed the ICCU problem, it continues to fail, as mine did. There were no dash warnings. The car slowed to 20MPH and then stopped just as we were about to pull onto a busy freeway. The dash stayed on and then went blank while I waited for the tow truck to take it back to the dealer. The tow truck driver was unable to move the car without jumping the dead battery to get the car to pull up the tow truck ramp. We were told it was an ICCU failure. The car was in the Hyundai dealer for replacement of the ICCU unit for approximately 10 days.

ICCU and its fuse blew randomly while reversing out of a parking spot. A warning light appeared on the dashboard saying "check electric vehicle system" after a loud pop noise came from the rear passenger side. The ICCU charges the 12V battery on board, and when the 12V dies the whole car dies, resulting in the car shutting down suddenly. It's a known issue with this model car. The service center confirmed the ICCU blew when they ran diagnostics.
