This Volvo XC60 B8 has a serious deficiency with the 12v system and main Battery where it discharges below 10v when the vehicle sits idol for more than a week. Every 7-10 day interval the vehicle must be jump-started and driven for 30 min to recharge the 12v system. The vehicle reports itself in limp-mode until the 12v system charges above 11v then switches to normal drive mode for the remainder of the 30 min drive. I installed a battery tender to the POS and NEG posts under the hood but it charges the mild hybrid battery to full then disables continued charging of the 12v system, leaving the 12v main battery under voltage and draining while the car sits idol. We have to drive the vehicle for 30 minutes every 4-5 days to keep the battery charged. Not even Audi or Lamborghini require this much attention to their 12v systems like this 2022 Volvo. This dis-charging issue happens in all types of weather, all year long, and under any parked condition (locked or unlocked) and the factory battery charger only works on the hybrid battery, not the 12v system battery. I have owned other hybrid vehicles that can sit idol for weeks or months at a stretch and will start without issue. While parked, my Camry XLE (Toyota Synergy system mechanically disconnects their traction battery and simultaneously engages the 12v system to keep the Vehicle "aware" via sensors) will sit for months until I return to drive it normally. Volvo dealerships accept this behavior as normal although my experience with hybrid vehicles implies the opposite. I have not been able to uncover any online research that describes my issue with any resolution from Volvo or successful 3rd party auxiliary internal or external charging systems. it has been researched by Volvo to be 'within normal operating parameters'.

while attempting an OTA software update, the update failed. The instrument cluster was inoperative, it was a complete blank screen. Not able to tell how fast you were going, what gear you were in, how much gas you had. All features displayed on the instrument cluster were not available. Contacted Volvo to attempt a software reset, and all attempts were not successful.

On two occasions we have discovered cracks in a wheel on the vehicle. The second crack is causing the tire to lose pressure. We have no recollection of any impact that would have damaged the wheels. It appears the vehicle is too heavy for the wheels, causing them to fail under normal usage.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? -The backup camera system fails to respond intermittently. Often times the screen will remain black for several seconds while backing up before the screen shows any picture. Other times it will come on, and then flash to black while you are backing up. This is a major hazard should a child run/walk behind a car, when this occurs. I'm hoping others have expressed this problem so action can be taking. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? -Since Backup cameras are a federal requirement since 5/2018. The Failure to function on these new cars I find to be unacceptable. Even more so given that Volvo is supposed to be a brand dedicated to safety. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? -Indirectly yes, the Volvo dealership acknowledged that the new Google system is slow to respond at times. But they said a new software update would fix it. I have found this to not be the case and it seems to be happening more frequently now. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? -yes by the dealer. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? -no

Feb. 1, 2024: A short drive on electric during below zero weather, a car wash & a couple 100ft drive into a parking lot. Pulling into a parking space, foot on the brake pedal, ICE roared on accelerating the car over a curb, down an embankment & into a 3ft snow drift before I could stop it by pressing the brake pedal with both feet. We stopped 6in from a power pole. If forward crash avoidance system worked, didn't register in the EEPROM per the service tech! Feb. 17, 2024, during below zero weather, no electric charge, operating on ICE over about 2mi, Pulled into a parking space, foot on the brake pedal, ICE surged accelerating the car up over a 6" high curb onto sidewalk. Stopped car by depressing the brake pedal with both feet. Car stopped 2in before hitting a brick building. It didn't seem the forward crash avoidance system functioned to stop us. As a 35-year electronic design and repair professional, I have attempted to merge the two situations to try to find similarities. Two things: unexpected ICE engine acceleration surge & forward collision sensor not kicking on brakes. Per Volvo tech, Feb. 1, no register in EEPROM of forward crash avoidance or ICE issues. Second visit Feb. 22 to service will probably yield same. Obviously, this is not normal operation. We have been in two near collisions caused by the car doing things not designed to do.

TWO PIRELLI SCORPION ZERO TIRES (255/40 R21) RECEIVED ON 2022 VOLVO XC60 RECHARGE AS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT DEVELOPED MISSING SQUARES/ CHUNKS OF RUBBER IN THE TREAD AREA. THE TWO TIRES MISSING TREAD WERE ORIGINALLY ON THE FRONT AND WERE ROTATED TO THE REAR FOR ADDED SAFETY. ALL 4 MATCHING TIRES WERE DISPOSED AT THE VOLVO DEALER. VOLVO XC60 COULD NO LONGER BE SAFELY DRIVEN AFTER THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE PICKED UP A SCREW. THE SAFETY ISSUE WAS POINTED OUT DURING AN ATTEMPT TO HAVE THE TIRE REPAIRED BECAUSE IT WAS LOSING AIR. THE TECHNICIAN STATED A TIRE REPAIR WOULD INVOLVE CUTTING/SCRAPING THE TREAD FOR INSTALLATION OF A PATCH. THEY BELIEVED THAT THE TIRE WOULD RUPTURE UPON APPLICATION OF A PATCH. SIMILAR DAMAGE WAS FOUND ON THE SECOND TIRE BUT IT WOULD STILL HOLD AIR. ON DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, TWO VOLVO DEALERS AND NTB/MAVIS EXAMINED THE TIRES. ON THE FIRST OCCASION, IT WAS THE VOLVO DEALERS OPINION THE DAMAGE WAS CAUSED BY ALIGNMENT. THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE TIRES UNDER WARRANTY. SECOND TIME AT NTB/MAVIS THEY BELIEVED THE TIRE CONSTRUCTION WAS FAULTY AND UNSAFE TO REPAIR. THIRD INSPECTION BY A VOLVO DEALER THOUGHT IT MAY HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY DRIVING OVER GRAVEL/SHARP ROCKS. A LOW PRESSURE WARNING APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE TIRE HAD LOST SOME AIR AND WOULD NOT HOLD AIR LONG WHEN REFILLED. VOLVO'S DEALER REPLACED THE PIRELLI TIRE THAT WOULD NOT HOLD AIR, BUT WOULD NOT REPLACE THE OTHER THREE IN THE SET. MATCHING PIRELLI TIRES COULD NOT BE OBTAINED, SO A SET OF MICHELIN TIRES WERE INSTALLED. OWNER WAS REQUIRED TO PAY FOR THREE, VOLVO COVERED ONE TIRE COST BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT HOLD AIR. NTB/MAVIS ADVISED THEY HAVE DISCONTINUED STOCKING THE PIRELLI SCORPION ZERO TIRE.

Our tires are Continental 255/45R20. It blowouted today when we were on the freeway with the speed at 65 miles per hour. We pulled our car to the shoulder of freeway after the rear driver side tire was blowouted. The tire was completed damage with many explore holes. We can see the bulges too. Our car is only one year old. The tire on right front in the passenger side was blowouted in March this year and we had replaced it. We can prove this tire is a defect tire.

I have had 5 visits with problems with engine , braking sensors, and automatic braking incidents when no obstruction is noted. Propulsion System failure has occurred 3+ times and turtle mode has come on and limited my speed to 30 MPG. It has also started bouncing and shaking while in reverse. I am extremely concerned about the safety threats and lack of consistency when taking it to be repaired.

The vehicle performed an over the air update which failed. The vehicle became inoperable. The vehicle was force started with dash lights indicating multiple system failures. The infotainment system has crashed multiple times rendering climate control non usable. A loaner 2023 XC60 was provided which also resulted in the infotainment center crashing twice. Dealership acknowledged the issue but has no solution for the issue. My concern is there is no guarantee the other safety features are functioning correctly if the most simple electrical component of the vehicle is failing.

I purchased the car in April 2022. Did not have any issues until February 2023. Initially, the engine light came on with a turtle icon in the dash screen. I was driving and the car would not go over 45 mph. on a busy street . The car was hesitating badly and also said something about the propulsion? Volvo Ontario towed it from my business and supposedly fixed it. Fast forward the following week, engine light came. Back to dealer, who said the software at that time was not available and it was a recall. A few days later they said they were disconnecting the engine light until new update was available. Back to dealer with update now installed, supposedly this would fix all the engine issues. A few days later, 3/7 I got into car and started it . This mesage came on, "Slow down, the vehicle will reduce speed. Propulsion system failure", Followed by ,"Propulsion System Service Required" with yellow engine light on. Backed out of the driveway and the car started vibrating and shaking violently. Currently waiting on Volvo for next steps. I am so dissapointed with this car and it is a huge concern for safety. I purchased this car because of their reputation for safety.

I just purchased car two weeks ago. Got home and tried to familiarize myself with the car. Very intricate car with lots of technology. It is a mainframe on wheels. To my shock, there is no written owners manual in the car. I have been trying to go to the dealership, and customer service, to get said owners manual. I offered to pay for one myself. I am told for environmental reasons that it does not exist. The owners manual is available on the center console of the vehicle. WHAT? What if I am on the side of the road and can't turn on my car, I can't access a manual. Can this be legal? This is not safe. How do we not have a law to require a manual be available for a car sold in the US?

The Google/Android (IHU) electrical system controls the entire car: brakes, engine, safety features, AC/Heat, etc. It is unreliable after 4 repair attempts. Problems started date of delivery (9/6/22) & have been ongoing. The ones that directly affect safety are the auto braking activating without cause, blind spot warning missing motorcycles, lane keeping will pull car towards a hazard in middle of road when you swerve to avoid it and the Google/Android system in general malfunctioning. I live in south Florida and I can assure you that air conditioning is a safety concern, especially in people like me who have medical conditions in which excessive heat exposure can result in an ER visit. My AC has failed upon starting the car as well as following the rebooting of the Google/Android system. The rebooting of the system must be done whenever the system malfunctions & it is wise to pull off the road to do it because everything but engine shuts down during the procedure. I have had to do this several times sitting off the side of the road & the system still wasn't working. It is not safe to have to pull off road so frequently. The automatic braking was particularly frightening, as both I and the car in front of me were both slowing for a stoplight, there was at least 5 car lengths between us & the distance between us was not narrowing. My car suddenly braked. Had someone been close behind me they would likely have rear-ended my car. They might have also assumed I brake-checked them & reacted with anger. Requested Volvo corporate involvement for 4th repair attempt & IHU was replaced. System began malfunctioning again, but blind spot worked. The Google system is apparently unstable, as the 2nd loaner car's backup camera & cross traffic warning froze & failed to alert. Dates: 9-6-22 to 1-25-23 (date they took car for repair try #5). About 4000 miles on it. Volvo says they can't replicate concerns. I have video of some malfunctions & sent to dealer.

Picked the vehicle up from dealership, rapidly received errors in May 2022. Errors as follows; Blind Spot Sensor service required, rear auto brake reduced functionality, park assist system reduced functionality, vehicle had less that 15 miles. A different incident in May, the AC wouldn’t work and had to shut down and reset screen. July 2022, car would not start with either key, confirmed both keys working. Would not recognize key or respond to app, eventually radio would come on but car wouldn’t crank. Dealership updated software. August 2022, GPS kept dropping and continued issues with electrical, TCAM module replaced.

The screen does not come on, so no heat, no safety stuff, no reverse camera and no sensors. All the above ADAS features do not work either. This is definitely a safety hazard, which I think traces back to the vehicle operating system. I have recently experienced several episodes of the vehicle suddenly going into "limp home" mode while either accelerating onto or driving along at highway speed, causing a sudden loss of drive-ability and endangering me and my vehicle as well as those other passengers and vehicles traveling near me. I have taken it to the Volvo Dealer in Norristown , PA where I purchased the vehicle new less-than a year ago, and they said they have never seen the "Transmission Acceleration Performance Reduced" dash warning with the "turtle shell" icon or the DTC codes before, however, there is much discussion of this issue on the Volvo forums, and I respectfully request that you urgently look into this dangerous issue!

The car's heater on 'pure' mode does not operate. I called the dealer and he said "oh yeah, this is a very widespread problem." My car travels in cold climates and is subject to moisture/condensation. No call from Volvo, no special notice, nothing...... just wait until you can't see out your windows and have to pull to the side of the road because they are too lazy to take care of this issue. It is safety issue - 100%.

The vehicle is basically new and I have only had it a few months. It has already been with the dealer three times because of technical/computer/infotainment issues. The dealer had the vehicle for about a week on each occasion. Today, I started to break so I could turn the car around and park it in the parking lot. I was moving very slowly, as you would expect in such a case. However, the car didn't stop but instead lurched forward in full throttle causing me to crash into a breezeblock wall. The automatic warning system did not sound and the crash detection system never engaged. I haven't been in an accident for 30 years and was not distracted when this happened. If the vehicle hadn't already had issues, I would accept user error as the problem, however in light of the car's history, I have doubts.

A/C failed to turn on. This is the second time this has occurred. It was on a 100 degree Texas day. I was already in the vehicle and it was so hot in the vehicle I was worried about a heat stroke. It caused a distraction while driving because the electrical components weren’t functioning as intended potentially causing an accident. The 2022 models have known electrical issues and the dealership was not surprised. The vehicle is currently in the shop.

I was driving on a highway over 55 MPH when the Power Limitation Indicator symbol, the red warning symbol and the Emission control system flashed on which immediately limited my maximum speed to 45 MPH. This instant deceleration in high-speed traffic almost caused the car behind me to rear-end my car. I put on my flashers and exited the highway ASAP. The error light stayed on until the car's electric battery had been drained and the gasoline engine was being used 100%. Two weeks later the Power Limitation Indicator symbol flashed on again but this time I was on local roads traveling at 35 mph thus the car did not decelerate. Again, after draining the car's electric battery the Indicator symbol went away. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Propulsion System and yes How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The instant deceleration of the vehicle in fast moving traffic was a potential accident situation. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The dealer cannot replicate the error message nor knows how to fix it. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes, the Propulsion system service required warning symbol and message.

The car is only a few months old with less than 10k miles. After parking the car for about 2 hrs, came back and the battery was completely dead. This left me and my family stranded unexpectedly. After jumping the car, a warning displayed "Stop Safely, 12 V Battery Critical Charging Fault". I decided to try to make the short drive home as I was stranded with my family otherwise, the vehicle was in a limp home "turtle mode" which was not safe. The acceleration was surging unexpectedly and without warning. I realize that there was a warning not to drive, however I didn't have a lot of good options given the electrical failure. Also, in thinking back, there was a warning sometime in the last month regarding collision detection that needed to be fixed, but warning went away. In researching this issue online, seems that there are other complaints similar in nature (11472450, 11469166).

The google android automotive operating system is unstable. It will reboot while driving. During this time all Settings and functions of the car including safety systems are rebooted as well. For about 30-60 seconds the cars systems are unavailable even the HVAC. I’ve had it serviced twice and they have been unable to fix the issue. The cars data/cell connection also does not work and is required for the SOS and Volvo On Call systems. It is currently at the dealership with no estimated time of when they can fix as they have exhausted all possible ways to fix. A case is active with Volvo to work to find the issue to the problem. They replaced the cars modem but data is still not working and updated the software but the glitches and issues with the android automotive remain.
