After a software update to the infotainment system (Android Automotive OS version 5.1.17, installed on 06/03/2026), my 2022 Volvo XC60 B5 intermittently loses all audio output. When the failure occurs, the vehicle produces no sound of any kind: no audible rear parking/proximity sensor warning while in reverse, no turn-signal indicator tones, and no media audio. The rear-view camera image still displays normally, so the loss of the audible backup warning is not obvious to the driver — the parking-assist system appears functional while its audible warnings are in fact disabled. On multiple occasions the failure was already present as I backed out of my garage and began driving, leaving me with no audible obstacle warning while reversing and no turn-signal tones while maneuvering. The display, navigation, and camera continue to function while audio is dead, which indicates the audio service stops responding rather than a hardware fault. The only way to restore audio is to fully restart (reboot) the infotainment head unit; the failure then recurs intermittently. The fault began immediately after the 5.1.17 update and was sporadic at first. After noticing a pattern, I documented occurrences on 06/15/2026, 06/17/2026, and 06/20/2026 with timestamped photographs, which are available on request. No crash or injury has occurred, but the loss of audible backup-warning tones while reversing is a safety hazard, particularly for pedestrians or obstacles behind the vehicle. I am not aware of a current recall covering this issue and am requesting investigation.

Re: Demand for repurchase or replacement under warranty — VIN [XXX] Vehicle: 2022 Volvo XC60 (pre‑certified) Purchase date: 08/19/2024 Dealer: [Dealer name, [XXX] ] Dear Volvo Cars USA Customer Care: I am the owner of the above-referenced vehicle. Since the date of purchase (08/19/2024) the vehicle’s infotainment system has repeatedly failed: it shuts down and reboots frequently (as often as 10 times within one hour of normal driving). Each shutdown disables navigation, HVAC controls and Bluetooth, and on reboot I must reset settings. This defect creates a significant safety hazard while driving, especially in unfamiliar areas. Since purchase I have returned the vehicle to the dealer for diagnosis and repair on multiple occasions. The vehicle has received software updates approximately 3–4 times, most recently on05//05/2026. The problem persists. I have retained copies of all repair orders and service records documenting these visits. (Copies attached.) This recurring failure remains unresolved despite multiple repair attempts and continues to present a SERIOUS safety risk. 2022 Volvo XC60 T8 Recharge VIN: [XXX] Mileage at time of complaint: ~38,400 Purchased: November 2023 (Certified Preowned) DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM: The vehicle's infotainment system and backup camera have experienced repeated failures since the time of purchase. The backup camera intermittently fails to display an image when the vehicle is placed in reverse, leaving the driver without rear visibility. The infotainment system freezes, goes black, or becomes unresponsive without warning. These failures affect the federally mandated rearview camera display required under FMVSS 111. The vehicle has been brought to authorized Volvo retailers (Jim Fisher Volvo, Portland, OR and Germain Volvo North Hills, Wexford, PA) more than eight times for in-person service for this concern. The same issues have also been troubleshot remotely by phone or text on approximately ten additional occasions. Software updates, system resets, and other attempted repairs have not permanently resolved the problem. On one occasion, the backup camera failed to display while reversing, which contributed to minor rear bumper damage. The driver was relying on the camera display as designed and federally required, and the system did not perform. I am aware that NHTSA Recall 25V282 (Volvo R10320) was issued in April 2025 for this defect across 413,000+ vehicles including the 2022 XC60. Despite the recall, the underlying infotainment and camera reliability issues in my vehicle have not been resolved. A second recall (25V392) was issued after the initial software fix caused braking concerns in some vehicles. No injuries have occurred. No crashes have occurred beyond the minor bumper contact described above. Volvo Customer Care Case #XXX was opened and a goodwill assistance request was denied. Apr 7, 2026Engine

Reporting a manufacturing defect in a 2022 Volvo XC60. The vehicle developed a metallic ticking noise in the timing area, audible at idle. Symptoms strictly match Volvo Technical Journal 36551.9.1 (NHTSA ID: MC-11015995-0001) regarding faulty camshaft seals. The noise disappeared when the oil filler cap was loosened, exactly as described in the TJ. An authorized Volvo dealer confirmed the defect and replaced the camshaft seals per Volvo’s protocol (Work Act No. ЗН-0131107). This repair completely resolved the issue, proving it was a manufacturing fault. The manufacturer refused warranty coverage citing 'salvage title' status, without proving any causal link between the title and this specific engine defect. Failure of timing components poses a significant safety risk, including sudden engine stall or oil leaks during operation. The owner was forced to pay out-of-pocket for the repair of a recognized factory defect. Supporting documents and video evidence are available upon request.

At the end of a downhill cloverleaf coming coming on and off a highway, the car slowed to a crawl but would not stop. It was going slowly as if "creeping" like when in B mode but was not in B mode. The brakes would not stop it. I was able to shift gears from Drive to N to P but no response, car continued to creep forward until it gently bumped into the back of an 18 wheeler. There was no collision alarm at the time. I turned the car on and off, and powering down seemed to re set the issue, but the collision alarm went off like 10 minutes later when there was nothing to set it off (seemed like it was just delayed). No error code came up, nothing. I submitted my claim to Volvo, esp since there are similar recalls so I thought it was a known thing, but apparently not reported on my exact make and model (there were not very many made). I did not know there was damage to my vehicle, and the truck driver and myself did not even get out, he didn't feel me, and I assumed the bumper just bumped him so no police report. This was an intermittant failure and after I re booted the vehicle I slowly drove home after brakes seemed to be working after power on/off. I did not know that it was my HOOD that bumped the truck. I did not know there was damage until I got home. If this car's make and model were NOT included in the recall, they should be. TERRIFYING. And volvo did not acknowledge or reassure. requested documentation on what they inspected, and did not receive.

I received the the recall for the rear backup camera system not working now the whole cars safety system doesn't work. The infotainment screen keeps crashing and showing a dead android on it thus killing the Turn signal noise, climate controls, safety systems blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control randomly turns off, rear backup cameras still don't work. Overall this could lead to an accident as the whole cars safety system is not working and it makes me wonder if this could trigger the car to fail while driving if the operating system is malfunction or bad. I have tried to fix the issue with a factory reset but nothing seems to be working.

Even after the Volvo R10320 - WAM Upgrade recall, the backup camera is STILL unavailable at times when reversing. The recall and software update did not fix the issue. I would start the car and begin to reverse and met with "Camera is temporarily unavailable". I do not know what else do to as Volvo is slow to respond or provide anytime of upgrade or timely fix. This has happened multiple times and almost five times a week.

I purchased my 2022 Volvo XC60 in April 2025. I had no problems with the backup camera, until I installed a new version of software, 3.7, over the air, in September. The update was described as addressing a recall, for a safety issue where the backup camera would sometimes not work. Since the recall update, I've had issues with the backup camera not working, at the same time all of the cameras, proximity warnings, and rear emergency braking do not work. Far from this software update fixing a safety concern, it appears to have created one. The only answer I could get from the Volvo USA help line was to "take it to a dealer". I thought they would be more concerned given that they have just carried out a recall action that has created a safety issue!

While driving on crowded I40 near Statesville NC, the engine started to stutter and moments later quit entirely. Fortunately we were able to move to the shoulder with only a few seconds to spare. This was very dangerous as we had to move through the right lane in front of speeding semi trucks. The only warning light received was that there was an engine problem, that the car would go into “safe” mode. This was mere seconds before entirely disabling the engine. Had we come to a halt on the highway there would have been a serious accident and injury to ourselves and most likely others. We contacted Volvo, a tow was dispatched and the car was winched on to a flat bed trailer and we were transported to a dealer in Hickory. Later it was confirmed that the Integrated Starter General (ISG) had failed and that power had been interrupted to the hybrid battery. There is a serious problem here and I suspect may impact other “mild hybrid” systems that install integrated alternator/starter motor systems between the engine and transmission.

The back up camera frequently does not work. When you put the car in reverse, the screen where the back up view should appear will state, “Camera is Temporarily Unavailable “. The dealer replaced the camera with no improvement. This fault occurs several times per week.

My vehicle is an XC60. The headlights fogged up and the fog caused issues with driving in the dark. It took four days for the fog to resolve itself. During that time, at night, you could see the fogged areas in the beam. I took the car to a Volvo dealership and they were not able to replicate the issue, likely because it is not as hot now as it was when this occurred. They told me to open a case with Volvo USA. I sent them photographs. They then responded that there was no evidence of condensation, but condensation was normal and would clear up as it did in this case. The sentence is clear that there was condensation while saying there was no condensation. The headlights are a safety issue and the car is under warranty for 10 years. The headlights should be replaced. I shouldn’t be in a position to fight a company that prides itself on safety about headlights, which are critical for safe driving at night. This is a common issue. I searched and found multiple people with the same problem and some were repaired while others weren’t. Volvo is playing a game of chance with a critical component of a vehicle. I even emailed the VP of Customer Care and he did not respond. I don’t know what else to do besides alert the NHTSA that Volvo headlights are in some instances failing their drivers and Volvo refuses to fix the problem.

Case number 240821-000271 was opened on 8/21/24 with Volvo Car USA Support. I have three main concerns: 1) The infotainment system losing the favorites that I have saved in the Sirius application. This had been an intermittent problem that I had been having since I purchased the car. I finally took it into the service department at Volvo Cars of Gilbert on 1/7/23 for this problem (Invoice Number VOCS110975). The service department was unable to recreate the problem so they did nothing. 2)A complete car system reboot while I was driving on 6/10/24. As I was driving down the road the HVAC system shut off and the dash and infotainment system screens went blank. All car systems completely shut down except the engine. This was an extremely frightening experience as all of this happened with no warning whatsoever WHILE I WAS DRIVING. This is a huge safety issue! Within about a minute of driving like this the systems started to come back up. I proceeded home. The next morning I took the car to Volvo Cars of Gilbert again. They had the car for 5 days and performed a software update on the IHU (Infotainment Head Unit) (Invoice Number VOCS120164). 3)The failure of the infotainment system to update after starting the car and driving. This happened on 8/7/24 and I took the car directly to Volvo Cars of Gilbert again. The infotainment system was stuck on “Infotainment system starting…” for the entire 12-minute drive to Volvo. Volvo Cars of Gilbert had my car for 8 days this time and this time they did a reload to the existing IHU (Invoice Number VOCS121204). I asked that they replace the IHU. Volvo refused to replace the IHU because it was too expensive at $3200. Also, the problem of the infotainment system losing its radio favorites has become much worse. It happens daily now. I believe there is an opportunity for a catastrophic event to happen while I am driving if this IHU problem is not corrected immediately.

The Volvo XC60 re-charge/hybrid is not equipped with a spare tire. A tire repair kit is provided. I had a flat tire resulting from sidewall damage. The repair kit is ineffective for this type of tire failure. This required towing the vehicle to a tire shop for replacement. If this had happened in a rural setting, at night, or on a weekend the vehicle's occupants would have been put in danger. I was not informed of this feature at the time of sale of the vehicle. This information would have influenced my decision to purchase the vehicle. I am also told that a conventional spare tire from Volvo is not a solution to the problem as it won't support the weight of this model.
