Fuel tank shield have rusted and deteriorated to the extent that the fuel tank is no longer protected.

My vehicle was recently in for service and upon inspection the technician observed a rusted fuel tank shield. The reason this problem occurs is because of a process called galvanic corrosion. The fuel tank shield is bolted onto an aluminum heat shield, and the pairing of these two different metals accelerates the corrosion. While there is no specific national NHTSA recall for the 2017 Range Rover fuel tank shield rusting out, it is a known issue caused by insufficient protective coating, often leading to severe corrosion where the steel shield meets the aluminum chassis. The issue is commonly discussed as a design flaw, potentially causing the shield holding the fuel tank to fail. Upon researching this issue, Land Rover has acknowledged this problem and has given priority due to the fact that this is a safety issue being that these shields are also responsible for holding the tanks in place. Furthermore, Land Rover will grant me a credit for the repair but the only way I can qualify is if I personally report it to the federal government then a customer experience specialist from Land Rover reaches out to me and offers me a credit.

The contact stated that during routine service, the dealer found severe corrosion on the steel shield under the driver's and passenger’s side fuel tanks. The contact was advised by the dealer that the corrosion was more severe on the driver's side shield and there was a risk that the fuel tank could separate from the frame of the vehicle. The contact called the manufacturer, and the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact stated that the manufacturer advised that the steel fuel tank shield was bolted to an aluminum heat shield on the bottom of the fuel tank and was creating a process called galvanic corrosion. The contact was advised by the manufacturer that there was a Technical Service Bulletin covering the repair on model years 2013 through 2016. The contact was advised by the manufacturer representative that the 2017 Land Rover Range Rover was not covered and would not be covered until the manufacturer was requested to do so by the Federal Government. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.

In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle rolled about one hundred feet before it rolled onto a curb and stopped. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a corroded sunroof drain tube and faulty electrical components due to corrosion. The contact was informed that the sunroof drain tube and the electrical components needed to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 91,798.

First off, my VIN info on the first part of this form did not mention the my car is a convertible With that being said , the car was in my driveway in the rain ( I was working on the garage door so I parked it outside) Its the first time in been in the rain since I owned it. When I pulled it in from the rain I notes water sloshing in the back quarter cavities. My concern is submerged electrical , corrosion. The convertible has back sets and the floor boards are wet I know Land Rover is aware of the problem because they have a TECHNICAL BULLETIN about it (LTB01227NAS1) these letters and numbers was on top of the bulletin. I also went on line and noticed I was not the only Land Rover owner that has this problem. Because this is a convertible there is more reinforced steal on this car so corrosion after time can be a serious issue. FRONT LOWER TOW EYE COVER HAS DETACHED ON THE FREEWAY. IT'S THE PIECE THAT ATTACHED UNDERNEATH WITH 2 SCREWS BUT JUST WITH SOME CLIPS ON THE FRONT, AND IT FELL OFF UNDER AIR PRESSURE AND WAS DRAGGING ON THE FREEWAY. IT HAPPENED TWICE IN A 1,5 YEAR PERIOD.
