What 958 owners told NHTSA about the 2014 Honda Accord Plug In Hybrid

VSA/ ABS controller module has failed. Honda p/n 04571-T2G-L71 required to repair is not available. Nationwide parts shortage; dealer has no estimate when or if part will be available. Many 2013-2017 Honda Accord vehicles are affected and can't be repaired and owners forced to park otherwise perfectly useable vehicles.

I was making a left turn and my steering wheel locked up. I couldn't return the wheel right to straighten out. The car kept going left. I had to put my car in reverse and after some time the steering wheel unlocked while in reverse. I was on a busy street and almost caused an accident. When im driving I get my "Check Engine Light" that turns on, and it says "Check charge system" which I assume is possibly referring to the recall of the battery cable. When I make frequent stops my car suddenly will turn off, as if it lost power, and I will have to then exit the vehicle, to adjust the cables for the battery, therefore its putting my life in danger, as im having to turn the car back on.

The brake, steering, and a few other dashboard warning lights come on. Upon checking the diagnostic code, it indicated that the VSA Modulator Assy was the problem. This requires part number 04571-T2F-L01 (replaces 57110-T2F-L01). However, this part has been on a nationwide backorder for several months. I called several local Honda dealers and checked with online vendors as well and they all told me the part has been on backorder for several months. I reported the issue to Honda and the case number is 14081980. The Honda representative had me place an order with a dealer and pay for the part saying they would try to have the order fulfilled. After placing the order and paying for the part, the Honda representative changed her story and told me they can only monitor the order and close the case after the part is shipped. I was charged $1,373.29 for the part and there is no estimate when they will ship the part. Honda still says there is no ETA for the part even after they made me place an order and pay for it. This is a safety hazard as I am forced to drive the car with a malfunctioning VSA Modulator. I suspect several Honda Accord car owners are in the same position as the part is on a nationwide backorder. Please investigate this as a safety issue. Thanks.

The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the contact heard and abnormal sound underneath the vehicle. The vehicle then lost motive power. The contact stated that the shift lever was not responding. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic. Power steering system failed when starting the car. Steering wheel was jittery/jerky and was near impossible to turn it; it was very difficult to back it out of a parking space to get it towed. This happened once the service shop replaced a relay and the car was driven home without incident. However, the problem came back the next morning when we started the car again; it cannot be safely driven when the steering wheel starts acting up like this.
