What 958 owners told NHTSA about the 2014 Honda Accord Plug In Hybrid

VSA Modulator is flashing dashboard lights on and off signalley that something is not functioning properly like the brakes, oil change, engine check when their is nothing wrong. I was informed that my Modulator was bad. Why hasn't Honda had a recall on this car. 12/

The ABS, VSA, EPS, and the parking brake systems began to appear on my dashboard. After diagnostics, it appeared that the VSA modulator was failing to provide all these components that are needed for safety in all driving conditions. After doing some research, I came to know that the modulator failure is very common in the Honda Accord models from year 2010 and above. Yet, Honda has yet to recall vehicles for this issue that affects the brake and steering systems. So far, the lights continuously appear and disappear. However, there is a huge difference when the intermittent lights appear. The car swerves too easily on rainy days when running through a puddle on the street. Even on windy days, sometimes it cannot handle when I am driving against the wind. The car's steering system feels too vulnerable and sensitive when these lights are on given that I have none of that systems providing the extra safety components. I fear that one day when I have to brake suddenly to prevent I crash, I will lose control instead and cause a fatal accident. The part is too expensive and total costs can reach up to $3,000 or more, and like everyone else who has reported this issue. I cannot afford to repair it as of now, but will need to be on a day where the financials can support the repair.

In July 2023 after having brake pads and rotors replaced at the Honda dealership, several dashboard lights went on: LDW/FCW, traction control, steering, and ABS lights came on. After a diagnostic test at the dealership, they wanted over $2600 for parts and labor for a new ABS module. However, this part is “on backorder” with NO ETA. We spent less than $700 to have a mechanic remove the current ABS module, send it to CA to a place we found on eBay that repairs them, and have the mechanic replace it after bleeding the brake lines and replacing the brake fluid. This is a KNOWN issue (see Reddit, YouTube, these complaints, mechanics…even the dealership) on a part that should last the lifetime of the car. I expected more from Honda.

All of a sudden, many of the lights on the dashboard lit up. LDW, FDW, ABS, TPS (tire), Power Steering, and maybe another one or two. Mechanic recommended changing the battery. After the battery was replaced, the lights should have reset automatically. When they didn't reset as expected, the mechanic tried to diagnose the issue and found no mechanical issues and didn't get a code from the scanner he had. After 6 months, I took the car to the Honda Dealer who diagnosed the issue:"Diag-Electrical - Found DTC-66-113 Pressure Sensor Malfunction Recommend Replace VSA Modulator. Dealer says the part is not available and there is no expectation of the part being restocked in the future "Galactic Back-order". Cost of $168 to diagnose the problem. This part is not available for sale any where on the internet, but could be remanufactured by vendors on eBay and Amazon ( safety problem #1). Reviewed many postings across the internet from owners of Honda Accord 2014 and many other models and years. The warning lights being on and flashing constantly is very distracting and the Error messages replace 2 of the functions on my odometer display. I am concerned about the safety of the vehicle should the problem deteriorate further and various systems fail. The part is still in my car at this point and is available for inspection. This issue should be reported to Honda and covered by a recall.

Reading articles online has shown me others that have had this issue has made me realize this is a very large number of vehicles affected and could cause great bodily harm or death to occupants or others on the roadway. I have cleared the codes and the failure immediately came back and all safety systems turned back off.

Two weeks ago the FCW/LDW, Steering Wheel, Tire Pressure, ABS, and Emergency Brake lights came on the dashboard. I took the car to the mechanic and it was diagnosed as a malfunctioning ABS Modulator. According to the shop, they are dealing with a lot of similar cases for Honda Accords of around the same age. According to the dealer, the cost to replace this sensor is $1,900 since it basically controls a lot of important braking functions. I wished Honda would issue a recall of this matter considering the number of vehicles affected.
