Engine loss of power, exhaust producing white/gray smoke from tail pipe. Was stopped at stop light, pressed accelerator when light turned green. As I proceeded through the busy intersection, without warning, the engine lost power. As traffic was speeding up I was decelerating in front of a large tractor-trailer that nearly rear-ended me. Have not taken SUV to dealership or service center yet. No inspection has been completed. No warning, messages, or other symptoms appeared prior to the failure. The ADAS would shut off by itself.

In XXX my engine turned off while I was on the highway. I went to star nissan in [XXX] and they changed the turbo hose. On XXX I got a check engine light. After 3 days the dealership said I needed a new turbocharger and the repair would cost $4100. I was told I was 9000 miles over my warranty. I currently have 69000 miles on my 2023 nissan rogue. According to the incomplete recall, engine bearings and low oil pressure could have caused my turbocharger to fail. The extended 10 year 120k mile warranty is not being honored by star nissan in bayside new york. I am not being told the diagnostics codes. I was told to either pay the $4100 or pick the car up. This engine almost killed me on the highway. Now that the engine fails again i'm being denied the repair. I am being told the turbocharger is not part of the long block, eventhough the recall clearly afects the turbocharged engine. "I am reporting federal safety recall non-compliance and fraudulent remedy execution by an authorized manufacturer franchise, Bella Nissan of Union City ([XXX]), regarding NHTSA Campaign 26V-080 (Nissan Recall Code R25E2) on my 2023 Nissan Rogue SL FWD.I am the original owner of this vehicle, which has an exceptionally low odometer reading of 12,142 miles. The vehicle is used as primary medical transport for my [XXX] special needs son, who has a severe traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, and partial paralysis. On July 1st, 2026, I brought the vehicle to the dealership explicitly to resolve the critical engine bearing seizure and fire-risk recall. The dealership quoted a 3-hour repair window. Instead, the dealer rushed the vehicle through in 43 minutes total (Start: 12:52, End: 13:35) and recorded an impossible 1-mile odometer difference (Mileage In: 12,142, Mileage Out: 12,143). A single-mile drive is physically incapable of heating the engine oil to the high operating temperatures required by Nissan’s official engineering service bulletin to diagnose defective engine bearings. The dealership falsely certified to federal databases that this fire-risk vehicle was legally remedied, cleared the active safety flag on my consumer app, and billed the manufacturer's warranty department for work never performed. They also billed for a multi-point inspection and complimentary detail that were completely falsified, returning the car with an untouched, dirty windshield. The service advisor then actively withheld the paperwork I physically initialed at pickup, forcing me to take an internal 'Pre-Invoice Audit Copy' to conceal the non-compliant metrics.By rubber-stamping this safety recall on paper without executing the mandatory high-temperature diagnostic drive loop, this dealership has left an unverified fire-risk asset on the road, actively endangering a medically fragile family. I am refusing any future repair loops i want a buyback INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

All of a sudden, while driving, the car was not picking up speed. I parked and noticed the car was idling very roughly. It was though the car was going to just stop when I did start driving again. The check engine light came on while I was driving in the car would not pick up speed. It was still really a rough idle to the car when I turned corners it was like the car was going to stop and it would not go past 35 mph. I immediately drove into the Nissan dealership near me. A week later after dropping it off, I was told the engine had failed.

The contact owned a 2023 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that six months after purchasing the vehicle, the vehicle was vibrating abnormally while driving, accelerating, and the vehicle was hesitating. During an oil change, the contact informed the mechanic about the excessive vibration while driving. The contact was notified of an undisclosed recall, but there was no remedy for the recall. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer, but the mechanics were unable to duplicate the failure. During another failure, the vehicle turned off independently while stopped at a red light. The vehicle restarted after three attempts. The vehicle was driven slowly back to the residence. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer a second time, and an undisclosed pump was replaced. The contact stated that months later, the failure reoccurred, and the vehicle could not be restarted. The check engine warning light was illuminated, and the vehicle started smoking while it was stuck on the roadway. While the vehicle was completely stopped and disabled in the roadway, another vehicle rear-ended it. The air bags did not deploy. A Police report was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not deemed a total loss. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 41,000.

Recalls addressed yet engine continued to have ongoing problems. As of today Nissan service said the transmission needs full replacement yet takes zero responsibility for the problem. Car and Engine has continually had problems of cutting out and lagging. Now they are denying this has any correlation to their existing engine problems. This is a major ongoing safety problem due to the fact that when driving the engine stalls and cuts out. There is no consistency of the problem. It just happens. Nissan needs to take responsibility telling an owner to replace a transmission in hopes that this will address an engine problem that has gone on for two years straight is not the answer. They need to understand the dangers of any driving situation where an engine stalls/stops. It’s amazing with this existing problem that nobody has been injured on record yet! This needs to change!

I am filing this formal complaint to request immediate NHTSA intervention regarding Nissan North America’s bad-faith denial of critical safety recall repairs on my 2023 Nissan Rogue. Both Nissan Consumer Affairs and my local Nissan dealership service department are actively misdiagnosing a severe, well-documented engine defect as a "secondary issue" to avoid their legal obligations under NHTSA Recall Campaigns 26V-080 and 26V-081. By forcing me to drive a vehicle that exhibits violent engine shaking and severe, abnormal mechanical noise, Nissan is placing my safety and the safety of the motoring public at immediate risk. They are insisting that I continue operating a compromised vehicle until a catastrophic, total engine failure occurs on the highway. Detailed Timeline of Events and Defect Manifestation June 2025 (Vehicle Under Factory Warranty): The vehicle began exhibiting abnormal, excessively loud engine noises. I presented the vehicle to the authorized Nissan dealership for diagnosis. The service department dismissed the issue, claiming they "could not replicate" the noise, and released the vehicle back to me without repair. I captured digital video and audio recordings of the defect at this time to preserve empirical evidence. February 2026: NHTSA and Nissan announced recalls 26V-080 and 26V-081 specifically targeting the 1.5L and 2.0L VC-Turbo engines for main bearing failure, which causes violent engine shaking, severe noise, knocking, and sudden loss of motive power. [XXX]: As the engine noises worsened and progressed into violent engine shaking, I brought the Rogue back to the dealership service department. They admitted the vehicle was shaking excessively but claimed it was a "secondary issue" caused by a failing Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve. Manufactured/dealership explicitly stated that because they did not yet find metal shavings in the oil pan, they would not authorize the recall remedy. After taking my 2023.5 Rogue S in for the recall repair (replace sensor and update ECM) I noticed soon after that a knock has started to appear. It is happening any time the engine is under load, especially at lower RPMs. I have changed where I get fuel and that has not resolved the issue, I got my oil change done about 2 weeks ago and the knock is still there

Consumer Safety Complaint – 2023 Nissan Rogue Engine Failure & Denied Reimbursement I am submitting this complaint regarding a known manufacturing defect in my 2023 Nissan Rogue SV that resulted in progressive engine failure, significant out-of-pocket repair costs, and a subsequent denial of my reimbursement claim by Nissan Consumer Affairs. Vehicle Information: • Year/Make/Model: 2023 Nissan Rogue SV • Engine: 1.5L 3-Cylinder KR15DDT VC-Turbo Summary of Events: On July 22, 2025, I brought my vehicle to Precision Automotive and Transmission after experiencing symptoms consistent with the defect described under NHTSA Recalls 25V437 and 26V080. Repairs included CVT diagnostics ($95.00), CVT transmission service ($386.39), water pump replacement ($610.65), and a cooling system service ($259.95) — all cascading failures tied to the engine and transmission defect. On November 13, 2025, my vehicle was towed from my residence due to complete engine failure. A full engine replacement was required at an additional cost of approximately $5,958.22, plus a diagnostic fee of $95.00. Total out-of-pocket expenses: approximately $7,405.21. All repairs were completed prior to Nissan's official recall notification to owners, scheduled for March 27, 2026. Reimbursement Claim Denied: I submitted a formal reimbursement claim to Nissan Consumer Affairs. My claim was denied on the basis of an incorrect diagnostic code. I believe this denial is improper. The underlying failure — engine bearing degradation caused by the KR15DDT's lubrication deficiency — is precisely what these recalls address. Denying reimbursement on a technicality of code classification, while the physical failure is covered under the recall, is deceptive and harmful to consumers. I am not filing this complaint solely to recover my own losses. I am filing because this denial practice may affect thousands of other Nissan owners who experienced the same defect.

Purchased 2023 Nissan Rogue March 2026 drove for 3 months never was informed of a recall. On XXX would not start but it did after removing key from FOB then saw a little gray smoke shut the car down and XXX contacted Lugoff Nissan SC was told of recall and that engine was fully covered. Tuesday called again to inquire about progress none was done. Informed me they would not replace engine unless I paid $2,000 to replace catalytic converters but did not do a clog test so not even sure they are damaged but even if they were it is covered under damages caused by a faulty engine oil system cause the oil is cleanse by the converters and which is a Federal requirement but was told they could put old ones back on and I could smoke which was rude and is illegal to run converters that do not function properly and control smog and pollution per the Federal Government. Then agreed to put engine in Wednesday nobody even heard my request that I needed a loaner then worst part was today I was told car had a bad head gasket which I inquired researched talked to two licensed mechanics with over 40 years experience a bad engine causes all that they are refusing to fix oil runs through a system which is filtered by the converters and can damage if not functioning properly and a head gasket is part of the system; it effects the heads by overheating the oil which overheats engine. They said it would be a few days next week before they could check the warranty no it’s been few days it is 10yrs/120,000 extended warranty per the gov required because over 484,000 2023 Nissan engines were defective dangerous mfg in Japan so either or recall or warranty my car is covered I want engine replaced all necessary repairs properly done free of charge a recall engine malfunctioned caused damages; not any my fault and I don’t want to wait a week I can’t even get my [XXX] husband to his cardiology appt. While driving my 2023 Nissan Rogue on Interstate xxx from [XXX] to [XXX] with my xxx daughter in the vehicle, the vehicle suddenly displayed multiple warnings including collision assist/sensor malfunction warnings, start/stop system failure warnings, and “check owner’s manual” messages. Immediately afterward, the vehicle experienced a sudden loss of power and refusal to accelerate. At the time of failure, I was traveling approximately 78 mph in the fast lane of the interstate. The vehicle rapidly lost speed and dropped into what appeared to be limp mode, eventually slowing into the upper 50 mph range despite pressing the accelerator. I had to fight across multiple lanes of freeway traffic while unable to maintain highway speed. This created an extremely dangerous situation due to surrounding high-speed traffic and limited safe shoulder access in a remote desert area. The vehicle became unsafe to continue driving and required a tow of over 70 miles to the nearest Nissan dealership. The tow expense alone exceeded $600. Prior to this incident, the vehicle had already experienced a separate unexplained no-power/no-start event. At that time, the battery, starter, and alternator reportedly tested normal. The vehicle remains within the manufacturer’s 5 year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty and currently has active recalls associated with the vehicle. A Nissan case has been opened and the vehicle is pending dealer diagnosis and inspection. After posting publicly about this incident in Nissan owner groups, I identified numerous other owners reporting nearly identical symptoms involving warning light cascades, sudden loss of acceleration, limp mode events, and highway safety concerns. This incident created a serious safety hazard involving sudden highway deceleration and loss of motive power during interstate travel. Component Affected: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING Description of the Defect & Incident: My 2024 Nissan Rogue equipped with the 1.5L VC-Turbo engine is exhibiting severe progressive mechanical failure, matching the symptoms described in NHTSA Campaign Numbers 26V080000 (Engine Bearing Seizure) and 26V081000 (Throttle Body Gear Failure). The vehicle is currently experiencing excessive engine shaking, a violently rough idle, abnormal mechanical noise from the engine bay, and a dangerous drop in motive power/acceleration. History of the Issue & Dealer Denial: I originally identified and proactively reported an abnormal engine noise to an authorized Nissan dealership in May 2024. The service department issued a "could not duplicate" finding and turned me away. In June 2024, I provided a digital audio/video recording of the symptom at that time. Following the closure of the initial Nissan dealership, I transferred the care and servicing of my 2024 Nissan Rogue to Future Nissan of Roseville. I explicitly reported the recurring, abnormal, loud engine noise and excessive engine shaking with no remedy offered. Following the official February 2026 recall announcements, the symptoms have severely worsened, progressing to violent engine shaking. I returned to the dealership for the recall remedy. The dealership service department is actively denying recall coverage, claiming the current failure is an unrelated "secondary issue" rather than a consequence of the recalled components. Because Nissan's own NHTSA filings explicitly state that these defects are progressive and give advanced warning through "unusual noises or vibration/rough running" before complete engine failure, the dealership's refusal to honor the recall is a violation of federal safety standards. The alleged secondary damage is direct consequential damage from a primary safety defect that I documented within the initial warranty period. Nissan must take responsibility for this failure.

I purchased a 2023 Nissan Rogue from Bella Nissan in Union City in September 2025. The dealership failed to disclose to me that there was an open recall on my vehicle. Several weeks later, the car shut down on me while I was driving back to work from lunch, which was extremely dangerous as well as frightening. I missed half a day’s pay because I could not return to work. I had to return the car to the dealership where they blew off my concerns and initially did not want to give me a loaner car but I was adamant that they assess my car, fix it and give me a loaner car in the process. A pattern would emerge where they would tell me the engine damage had been fixed, and I would return the loaner only to have to bring the car right back the same day or several days later due to the car engine shutting down, every time while I was driving the car. The last time I had to return the car, I was able to look at the paperwork that was written regarding my car and it said the reason for me bringing back the car was a check engine check light that was on. When I spoke to my service technician to tell him that the writeup was inaccurate, he ignored me. I spoke with the general manager, Muhammad, and requested the dealership put me in another car and he told me he was unable to do that.He promised me that the dealership would fix the engine open recall and then I would not have any more issues. That was not the case because I have returned to the dealership multiple times to get the engine recall fixed; today 5-27-26 being the most recent time. Today my car was making loud noises and there was smoke – none of this has ever happened before and I don’t want the car to catch fire. I was not able to upload my videos of the car shutting down. I shouldn’t have had so many issues with a newly purchased car. I have video but was unable to upload it. I simply ask that Bella Nissan take back this damaged vehicle and put me in another comparable vehicle, which was my initial request.

World car Nissan states the issues with the vehicle are not recall related. They blame the defects on a faulty oil temp sensor and engine mount. When the incident occurred signaling for us to take it into the shop, the vehicle slowed down very suddenly and the engine force was limited by the system. Even waiting for the car to cool down, it did not start and work properly. Even a day after the incident, the accelerator was not working.

On 5/9/2026 my 2023 Nissan Rogue overheated, lost all power and was inoperable. No alerts from dash or Nissan Connect app received. Had to be towed to the Nissan Lithia Springs Dealership and was told that a new engine is needed. My family was in the car and my children had to get out on the highway and walk until a bystander offered to assist. The dealership and Nissan Consumer Affairs is not answering any questions or providing any solutions. The service manger Carrissa is also avoiding all calls related to my vehicle. To Whom It May Concern, I am submitting a formal complaint regarding the handling of an unresolved safety recall involving my vehicle by Nissan, as well as the lack of communication, escalation support, and resolution provided by Nissan Customer Affairs. Despite multiple attempts to resolve an active safety recall, I have not received a follow-up call or any meaningful update regarding the status of the repair. The recall remains unresolved. I was previously informed that the issue may be related to the vehicle being “driven too much,” which I do not find to be an acceptable or relevant explanation in the context of a manufacturer-issued safety recall. Additionally, Nissan Customer Affairs has failed to provide adequate support. I requested escalation to a manager and/or a direct contact number to continue addressing the issue and was refused both. Calls are not returned, and there is no clear or functional escalation path provided. At present, Nissan is still in possession of my vehicle while I am in a loaner vehicle. However, I have not been given a clear timeline, status update, or resolution plan regarding the completion of the recall repair. This ongoing situation leaves me without transparency or assurance regarding the safety or status of my vehicle. Due to the unresolved recall, lack of communication, and inability to obtain proper escalation through internal channels, I am formally escalating this matter and submitting a complaint to the NHTSA for review. I respectfully request: Immediate clarification on the status of the recall repair A confirmed timeline for completion and return of my vehicle Proper escalation to a qualified manager or recall specialist Written documentation outlining next steps and resolution plan This matter involves a potential safety-related defect and requires prompt and appropriate attention.

I went into the dealorship for an oil change and was told that I had to replace the whole oil pan because it's plastic and breaks. I should not have to worry about replacing the whole oil pan every time I get an oil change or be stranded (since it leaves me no option but to remain at the location until they replace it). This is horrible nissan design and the manufacturer should replace with a metal pan and do a recall. This is very concerning especially in light of the engine recall due to overheating and other parts getting into and damanging the Nissan Rogue engine. Can Nissan guarentee that these plastic pans do not disintegrate over time causing microplastics to destroy my engine and causing my engine to potentially fail while I am driving on the expressway?

on 1/26/26 while driving my car started shaking. I felt unsafe driving and had the car towed to the dealership. They inspected the vehicle and could not notice the shaking but did perform recall service NTB25-05 as well as some additional items on the routine maintenance schedule. They said the recall was just an ECM software update and all should be well. 5 1/2 weeks later while driving out of town, the car suddenly felt like it lost the ability to "shift gears" and could barely make it up hills in an area that was all hills often times with no shoulder to pull off. The engine malfuction light reduce power was on. The Nissan dealer inspected and said admission valve readings were out of spec (second throttle body) and replaced. About an hour after this repair was complete and the car was driven out of the dealership, it again felt like was losing power, couldnt climb hills and service cvt power reduced light was on. (We just had cvt fluid flushed and replaced on 1/26.) Dealer removed and replaced cvt control valve assembly. The car is still rough idling and I am concerned that it will lose power with no notice again while driving putting me and others at risk. I am concerned that the throttle body and cvt issues are connected to the original ECM recall especially since other rogues manufactured in a similar time are having throttle body issues and the fact that the codes related to the CVT issue can potentially be caused by metal shavings debris or even the ECM directly affecting the TCM and damage to the transmission.

I am the owner of a Nissan Rogue subject to recall campaign R25D1, which addresses a manufacturing defect affecting engine bearings and/or engine components that may progressively fail over time, leading to engine damage and engine failure. I brought my vehicle to Headquarter Nissan in Columbus, GA (the same dealer that issued the recall notice) for diagnosis after experiencing engine problems. The dealer’s diagnostic findings document a complete engine failure consistent with the recall description, including: •EGR valve failure (valve could be opened to 70 degrees with no change in engine performance, when anything over 20 degrees should cause the engine to stall) •Engine overheating •Blown head gasket •Failed EGR cooler •Total coolant loss (vehicle arrived with no coolant; 2 gallons had to be added before fluid registered in the overflow) The dealer’s recommended repair is full replacement of the engine, turbo, catalytic converter, EGR valve, and EGR cooler, along with all gaskets and hardware. The estimate provided is $9,514.72. Despite the failure pattern matching the recall description (progressive component failure leading to engine damage), the dealer is denying recall coverage by attributing the root cause to the EGR cooler rather than the bearings or engine components named in the recall. This causation is also inconsistent with the diagnostic write-up itself, which describes the EGR valve as the initiating failure that led to overheating and subsequent damage to the head gasket and cooler. I am filing this complaint because the dealer’s denial appears to be a reframing of a recall-eligible failure to shift repair costs onto the consumer. I am requesting NHTSA review of how recall R25D1 is being applied at the dealer level and whether failures like mine are being inappropriately excluded.
