1. What component failed, and is it available for inspection? The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failed. The vehicle is currently at the dealer's service center, so the failed component is available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or others' safety put at risk? After parking and re-entering the vehicle following a grocery stop, the vehicle displayed "Check Vehicle Electrical System" followed by "Check Vehicle Power Supply" warnings. This occurred without warning while the vehicle was in normal use, and the vehicle had to be towed since it was no longer driveable. The sudden, unannounced failure of the electrical/power system created a risk of being stranded in traffic or in an unsafe location had the failure occurred while driving rather than while parked. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. The vehicle was towed to the dealer's service center, where the Hyundai-certified service technician confirmed the ICCU failed and informed us it needs replacement. 4. Has the vehicle been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? The vehicle has been inspected by the dealer's Hyundai-certified service technician, who confirmed the ICCU failure. No additional inspection by Hyundai corporate, police, or insurance representatives has occurred at this time. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning lamps or messages appeared prior to the incident. The first symptoms were the "Check Vehicle Electrical System" and "Check Vehicle Power Supply" messages, which appeared suddenly upon re-entering the vehicle after a grocery stop, approximately one week after purchase (used) at roughly 8,000 miles.

OnXXX, as we approached what I call the 6 o’clock position of a round-about in [XXX], we had braked almost to a full stop (0-5 mph) to wait on the car ahead of us to enter the round-about when we felt increasing movement. Despite braking, to wait on that car, our car with increasing speed started shoving that car into the circle. Fortunately, he was able to drive away from us, but that car had been damaged on the back and right side. With that obstacle out of the way, our car rapidly and exponentially increased speed - all while we were fully braking. Two witnesses said they saw our brake lights as we sped along. We hit the curb as we approached the 12 o’clock exit, and that turned us so that we crossed both lanes of the road and headed towards the far sidewalk and storefronts. When we hit that curb it pushed us diagonally to face the street again. Hard to estimate but we must have been doing 50 mph when we hit a very large brick planter and we finally were wedged to a stop when we slammed in between two vehicles parked parallel to the sidewalk. The motor ran for a few seconds after we stopped, and finally quit on its own. We KNOW the brake was applied the whole time; there were no visual or audible alarms from the car as we entered “UNINTENDED ACCELERATION”. Despite the incredibly strong impact (our car has been deemed totaled) the front air bags did not deploy. Only the driver’s side curtain deployed. The bumper of the parked transport van on our front left was damaged, and the small SUV on our front right was deemed totaled. No people were in those two parked cars; the first car was hit at the initial slower speed so those people were not injured. By some grace, no pedestrians were in our path or they would surely have been killed. The driver of our car (my husband) was miraculously not injured, but CT scans and x-rays showed I had several contusions and a fractured tibia that will require surgery due to brake, propulsion, no air bags. Car indicated 12v battery was critically low and that I should stop safely. I was just starting it in a parking lot. This is a classic ICCU failure and the car is up to date on all recall updates. The car requires manual key unlocking for outside access at this point, and the rear hatch is only unlockable using the manual release mechanism which is recessed into the rear hatch and needs the key. The back two doors cannot be opened at all, from either direction and the handles don't work when the electrical system has failed and the child lock was engaged accidentally when it happened. This legitimately terrifies me for anyone traveling with back seat passengers who need quick exit. There isn't one.

The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failed on my 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5. The vehicle stopped charging prematurely overnight via AC Level 2 charging and then refused to charge again at all. The ICCU is responsible for maintaining the 12V battery by topping it up during normal operation. No warning or check engine light came on, I was only made aware when I attempted L2 charging and the car would refuse to take the charge. I understand that with a failed ICCU, if I'm unaware of the failure (e.g., relies solely on DC fast charging which bypasses the ICCU), the 12V battery can deplete without warning while the vehicle is in motion, potentially causing sudden loss of vehicle systems including power steering, brakes, and other safety-critical electronics. The vehicle was parked at the time charging failure was discovered. No injuries occurred.

While charging my vehicle at home using a level 2 charger, the ICCU failed. When it failed, it caused a power surge and my level 2 charger “exploded.” It also caused the master breaker to trip, cutting the power off to my entire house. The vehicle no longer charges, will not drive over 25mph and has to be towed to a dealership for repair. Also, the level 2 charger is fried and no longer works.

On 11/7/25 , we were driving my 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 to a friend's home in rural [XXX] , a trip of approximately 160 miles. At around 5:00 PM, we stopped about halfway to our destination to charge the battery. The car would not charge above 47%. While we continued to attempt to charge the battery, the console displayed a Check Electrical System Warning message, and we received the DTC P1AA700 via BlueLink. We were concerned about our safety on the drive up to the mountains. We were afraid the car would stop running on the highway and cause an accident. We were also concerned the car would die in a remote area and we would be stranded. However, the dealership was closed for the weekend. We drove carefully to our friend's home. I contacted Stevens Creek Hyundai on 11/10/25 and arranged to bring the car in on 11/11/25. It had 13,652 miles on it at that time. Eventually, the dealer confirmed the DTC P1AA700 and said they would need to order a new EGMP battery. The car was in the shop for 128 days, waiting for Hyundai to "build a battery" in [XXX] . Eventually, Stevens Creek Hyundai replaced the EV battery and I picked up the car. Given the delay in repairing my car and the growing evidence of Hyundai battery failures, we wanted to report this problem to the authorities. I am writing to notify you of an Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failure on my 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5, purchased in October of 2023. While driving home on March 4 2026, the dashboard displayed the warning "Check vehicle electrical system," and then a "pull over safely" warning. I had to leave the vehicle in a parking lot and walk home. It was towed to a dealer on March 5, 2026 to diagnose and repair the problem. The car has just under 17000 miles on it. I was told the dealer was swamped with Ioniqs with this problem and had no ETA for parts. Fortunately they will be able to repair our car next week. Hyundai claims the replacement part has been redesigned to address the problem. Interestingly, I'm reading that Hyundai has issued a recall for some vehicles of this make and model year for this very serious issue; mind bogglingly we received no such notice.

My wife was driving our Ioniq 5 on the freeway. She received a message on the dash about the electrical system (probably ICCU failure), and then the car limited itself ("turtle mode") so that the max speed was 20mph. A minute or two later it slowed down even further to 10mph. She was able to get off the freeway safely.

The vehicle lost its ability to charge via AC power sources (level 1 and level 2), and the "Check vehicle electrical system" warning appeared on the dash. When using an OBD scanner, DTC P1E01 was present. It was inspected by a dealer, who informed me that the ICCU is in need of replacement, despite this component having been already addressed by a previous recall. Unfortunately the replacement component is backordered and there is no ETA available on the fix. For the time being I am limited to level 3 DC fast charging, which is a major inconvenience but does not represent a safety risk to myself or others.

We had the Internal Charge Control Unit replaced due to a warranty recall a couple years ago and it failed again on Dec. 23, 2025. The car has been at the dealer ever since, waiting for a replacement ICCU. The car refuses to charge and the dealer has diagnosed the issue as a faulty ICCU. There were no warnings or problem indicators prior to failure. This is our only vehicle, so while there was no safety issue, there is definitely a convenience issue. We had to obtain a loaner.

The ICCU component popped and blew seconds before I entered the on ramp for an interstate. My car immediately entered "turtle mode" and capped my speed at 10 mph. I crossed 4 lanes to get out of the turn ramp and get to a parking lot. The car alerted and stopped driving as I pulled into the lot. The car provided no warning before and has the 3 prior software recall fixes. It was unsafe for the car to suddenly stop working. 30 seconds more and I wouldn't have been able to pilot the car to a safe spot. Dealer has car and confirmed that the ICCU is blown and destroyed the 12v battery, which is less than a year old. They were willing to provide it to you. It is still at the dealership, as Hyundai national stopped shipping replacement ICCUs apparently in January.

Vehicle stopped charging and will not charge using a level 1 or level 2 charger. It will charge at a level 3 charger only. Took it to a Hyundai dealership and they did a software update and said it was fixed. Took it home and still would not charge. Took it to another Hyundai dealership and they said it was an ICCU issue they had been seeing and it would need to be replaced. I have read from many other Hyundai Ioniq 5 owners about the ICCU being a weak point in the car and having to have it replaced, some multiple times. When I tried to charge with my level 1 charger at home, it tripped the breaker, which is concerning. The message on the dash was simply, "check battery system".

The Hyundai dealer diagnosed failure of the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU), a known failure point on this platform. The ICCU is currently on backorder with no confirmed repair date. This failure creates a serious safety risk, particularly if it occurs at speed or in traffic. I no longer feel the vehicle is safe or reliable to operate.

High-voltage battery system failure causing complete loss of propulsion. Vehicle entered "turtle mode" (reduced power warning) at 25% charge, then became completely immobile — unable to move even on flat surface. This has occurred multiple times. Charging system displays "fully charged" within one minute while vehicle dashboard shows 60% — clear battery management system malfunction. Vehicle has been undriveable and awaiting battery replacement for over a month at this point with no information on when the battery will arrive or be in stock. This is a known widespread defect in Ioniq 5 vehicles. Multiple owner reports document the same battery system failures, extensive reports of ICCU failures, and Hyundai's solution is to replace these failing components with the same component that fails repeatedly in other vehicles. No permanent fix or design change has been issued. This is a critical safety defect. Vehicle becomes completely immobile without warning — total loss of propulsion in traffic creates immediate crash and stranding risk. False charge readings mean the vehicle cannot be trusted to complete any trip safely. I have been left stranded multiple times on the turnpike of 80mph speed limit due to sudden total system failure. Hyundai has not resolved the root cause. They continue replacing batteries with the same defective system. This vehicle is fundamentally unsafe and unreliable. I should not be required to drive a vehicle with a battery system documented to fail catastrophically and repeatedly. Service records and repair invoices available upon request — vehicle currently at dealer awaiting battery replacement.

After having service done for the past two ICCU recalls months and months ago, I’m driving along today and hear the loud pop that everyone else reports. My car immediately went to a reduced power state where I was able to limp a bit further until I lost all power. I had to have the vehicle towed (by a wheel lift/dolly equipped wrecker - do not allow a flatbed they’ll drag your car into the truck) to the nearest dealership and now await to hear how long I’ll have to be without it.

While stopped at a stop light, "check electrical system" warning flashed on instrument panel without any prior warning or malfunction. I was only able to move the car about 50 feet before all power and controls failed. I was in a middle lane and was barely able to move the car out of traffic. Tow truck driver with a large jump start battery pack was able to give it enough power for me to crawl it onto their flatbed, my small lithium jumpstart pack was only enough to get the rest of its doors unlocked. Battery temperature was about 30 degrees F, state of charge 75 percent, had been driving from home less than 10 minutes, car had been sitting outside for a few days. Problem diagnosed as ICCU failure by dealer service department, now waiting on replacement part to complete repair.

INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: On November 24, 2025, while driving at ~60 mph on NYS Route 17 (highway) with ~15% battery charge, my 2023 Hyundai IONIQ 5 suddenly entered limp mode and lost motive power. The high-voltage battery state of charge dropped instantly from ~10-15% to 0%, triggering error code P1B9600 (HV battery cell imbalance—cells failing to charge/discharge properly). I was unable to fully remove the vehicle from the roadway. My elderly mother was a passenger; a passing tractor-trailer came within 1 ft of striking us when disabled. NY State Police responded (report available). Required $300 tow to the Hyundai dealer, stranding us 150 miles from home.//PRIOR RELATED FAILURES: 1. November 14, 2025: Stranded due to ICCU failure (recall 24V-868 related) (stranded on NYS State Route 444). 2. September 15, 2025: Same P1B9600 code/limp mode/power loss; stranded in the middle of active travel lane of NYS 444; NY State Police report filed. 3. August 2025: Initial HV battery-related sudden power loss; stranded on Interstate 90 Eastbound (Erie, PA area). Despite repairs (September 2025 ICCU/"limp mode" software updates; October 2025 ICCU/high-voltage fuse replacement under recall 24V-868), defects persist. The vehicle charge rate also appears low and the battery consumption rate seems high.// CURRENT STATUS: Dealer (Vision Hyundai) confirmed high-voltage battery pack defective, requiring full replacement. Vehicle purchased new October 2024, under warranty. In service since mid-November 2025 (>30 days downtime). Provided loaner now, but prior rentals unreimbursed.//SAFETY RISK: Repeated sudden power losses create extreme highway crash risk, especially with vulnerable passengers. I am a licensed professional mechanical engineer, and can provide technical logs, repair orders, police reports upon request.The issues I have experienced appear to be linked to ongoing ICCU/HV system issues in IONIQ 5. I respectfully request expansion of the recall investigation.

While driving on the freeway I heard a pop and a saw a warning notification on the dashboard to check the vehicles electrical system. This was followed by a warning that power was limited which resulted it the vehicle speed decreasing to 30mph, and finally a notice to stop the vehicle immediately. All of this occurred in about 5 minutes time. Thankfully, I was able to pull over to the side of the road without an accident. After this the vehicle became inoperable including hazard flashers. I had to wait on the side of the freeway for about an hour to get a tow. The vehicle was towed to a dealer which confirmed that the ICCU and high voltage fuse were faulty. My safety during this process was put at risk because A) during a snow storm I had to pull the vehicle over to the side quickly across 4 lanes of traffic and B) then remain parked on the shoulder with limited ability to notify other drivers that I was on the shoulder. The dealer has confirmed the failure, the vehicle is available for inspection, and the manufacturer has not inspected the component.
