What 405 owners told NHTSA about the 2019 GMC Sierra Limited 1500

Bought used 2019 Denali Oct 2024 with 41 k miles on it. 1200 miles later started feeling vibration under load on highway. Took to dealership and they said I needed to replace torque converter. After that the transmission went out during test drive. Then waited 45 days for new transmission to find out the unit was defective. Now we’re going on 5 months and the truck still waiting on a replacement transmission. GM hasn’t acknowledged any of my complaints about this and said that they’re doing the best they can for me and is going to award me 10000 reward points for future use! What a joke! 5. months to replace a transmission? GM has completely failed its consumers, at least this one!

Rear sliding glass window is leaking water around the exterior frame. This is addressed in TSB 18-NA-383 but not covered under any warranty. My rear seats and carpet are becoming wet. I am concerned about the possibility of mold and an electrical short/fire resulting from water intrusion. There are many reports and discussions on the internet regarding this issue. Full window replacement estimated at $1300. Patchwork repair with caulk is estimated at $600 with no guarantees of success. I would expect GMC to cover the replacement of the rear glass in kind and remedy any other damage to my vehicle due to water intrusion into the cabin area.

I was driving back from getting breakfast and the truck started to smoke and the truck just shut off on the street. As soon as the truck shut off, I received an alert on the dash that told me not to exceed a certain speed, but the truck was not moving at the time. I tried to restart the truck and I received another alert that said to put the truck in neutral and I ended up having to push the truck to a safe space. I call a tow truck to take the vehicle to the dealership for evaluation. I later spoke with the representative at the dealership and she told me that my 6.2L V8 engine had seized up. She could not tell me why it happened.

I do not know if this qualifies as a safety concern, however based on everything I have read, I wanted to report the incident since you have 39 cases already. My 2019 GMC Sierra Denali w 6.2l engine, and 60,000 miles, starting tapping on April 10, 2025. I brought it to the local dealership the following day to diagnose. The dealer reported that they located metal in the oil pan/ filter and said the engine needed to be replaced. After more reading, it seems my truck is one of the vehicles with the 6.2l engine that is failing in countless numbers. In all fairness, I did not crash, the engine did not seize and it did not create a safety hazard in my incident, so i apologize if this reporting is a waste of your time. Now i have been given an invoice for over $10k to replace the engine which is on backorder nationwide I'm told due to the number of engine failures. Obviously it is out of 5 year 60K mile warranty so I have to eat the engine replacement.

RESTARTED AND TRIED GOING FORWARD AND IT RAN FINE. ABOUT 1 MILE DOWN THE ROAD THE LOW FUEL WARNING CAME ON AGAIN AND THE ENGINE STALLED WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH. AT THIS POINT I REALIZED THAT THE DOORS HAD UNLOCKED AND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GAUGES KEPT SWEEPING UP AND DOWN. I TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE BUT IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. IT ACTED LIKE THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. AFTER WATING SEVERAL SECONDS, I TRIED AGAIN AND THE ENGINE RESTARTED. I NOTED THE BATTERY VOLTAGE IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND IT WAS NORMAL. NO WARNING LIGHTS ON IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. NO DTCS PRESENT WHEN CHECKED WITH A GENERIC SCAN TOOL. MY SAFETY WAS PUT AT RISK BECAUSE THE ENGINE STALLED WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. I HAVE NOT TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER YET AS THEY ARE NOT OPEN TODAY AND I WANTED TO REPORT THIS WHILE ALL THE DETAILS WERE FRESH ON MY MIND.

The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the driver's side tail pipe flange bolts connecting the tail pipe and the muffler snapped, causing the tail pipe to hang down. Known problem on 2019 GMC Sierra Pickups 1500, under customer satisfaction program N212326940, known to affect in areas of very cold temperature weather, North Dakota where we live is extremely cold -45 deg F in winter. Risk of total oil loss and engine failure. Dealer replaced lines with no reduction in price for a known failure. Warning leaking oil on my driveway, filled engine, scheduled appointment and dealership replaced lines at full cost. This program to replace the lines at no charge should apply to all 2019 GMC 1500s that develop the leaks.

I bought this vehicle at 80k miles and I have had an on going issue with the transmission. I have done research online and found that GM had put the wrong fluid in the transmission from the factory that has caused internal issues with the transmission leading to hard shifting and transmission shuttering. On my dime I have changed the fluid twice already and also the torque converter as well. This issue has gotten better but still a problem. This has caused me to not be able to trade my truck with out being upside down because of the dealers telling me they would have to put a new transmission to sell it. So now my trucks value has dropped as well. Now I am stuck in a truck that is not safe to drive. Thanks GM for not helping me.

This incident happened without any warning at all on [XXX]. while driving 45mph on county road, the engine seemed to not be firing on all cylinders. Loss of power was immediate. accompanied by a rhythmic nocking that was felt and heard. I pulled off and called a tow truck. The engine is a 5.3 liter v8. At Pete Moore Chevrolet they said it was a failure of the number 8 cylinder valve lifters. that all lifters need replaced along with the camshaft due to scarring. (brought by Berger Montague) filed in the US District court of Eastern Michigan. Alleging defective valve lifters causing near or catastrophic engine failure. NHTSA has 39 active cases as well.
