Honda did a software update on my vehicle tied to the recall below. The dealership stated to me that they need to replace the VSA modulator and they are claiming this is not covered since they did the software update a few years ago. I believe they are directly corollated as I don't drive the car much only have 27K miles on the car. They are asking me to the pay for replacing the modulator VSA and are stating that this is not covered under the recall. It's hard for me to beleive how they are unrelated if the software is causing the unit to malfunction and we know the unit needs replacement there is a direct connection. This is costing me $2500. In 2019, Honda extended the warranty on two components of the A/C systems in 2016-2018 Civics: the condenser and the compressor shaft seal. However, it did not extend the warranty on the evaporator. I took my Civic to the dealer to diagnose an A/C issue where the system stopped putting out cold air after approximately 45 mins of driving. The dealer found leaks in the condenser, compressor shaft seal, and evaporator. Dealer received approval to replace the first two parts under warranty. However, Honda would not cover the evaporator. The dealer told me I would need to replace the evaporator, at a cost of nearly $2500, in order to recharge the A/C. Simple internet research confirms this is a common problem. Honda should be including the evaporator in its extended warranty because it seems to fail at the same rate as the other parts and because it is effectively impossible to replace the two covered parts without replacing the evaporator--which is by far the most expensive of the 3 parts to replace.

Honda has already acknowledged defects in the AC condenser and extended the warranty for that part. However, they have not extended the warranty for the evaporator, which is also failing at an alarmingly high rate. There is an active recall on the fuel pump for Honda Civics. My car fits within the range of time of manufacture, but my VIN does not appear with any recalls. The vehicle shakes when starting and will stall most of the time. I can turn it off and turn it back on and the car will start okay, but if I accelerate too quickly or drive too fast or for too long the engine will stall. I have been driving on the highway before and the engine stalls and I have to pull over. The car can be turned off and started again okay, but it’s a safety concern when it happens randomly on the highway with plenty of other cars around.

I began to experience 'sticky steering' before reaching 90k miles on my vehicle. At its worst, the steering issue would cause the driver to overcorrect when attempting to overcome the notch in the steering while simply trying to stay in the center of a lane on the interstate. Because it is a steering issue I had the vehicle inspected at a cost of $236.34, at which time it was recommended that the eps rack and gearbox be replaced at a cost of over $3000 dollars. I declined at that time and went back to my home dealership where the repair was done at a cost of $2055. The rack and gearbox were faulty and the service manager affirmed that it was a known issue on these models, but that Honda had yet to do a recall even though they have done recalls on later models.

Driving on highway to work when check engine light came on in addition to "Emissions System Problem", "Hill Start Assist", "Power Steering Issue", etc. When scanned for codes it showed misfire codes P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304. When spark plugs and coils were changed one set showed signs of rust. The misfires persisted after changing out these parts. When taken to the dealership they stated that the powertrain warranty had been extended to 6yrs from the original date of purchase because of an oil dilution issue. My car was outside of this warranty and the dealer did not offer to help with repairs. I called Honda of America and explained the situation - they also stated that it was outside of warranty. My mechanic has recommended an engine replacement and estimates repair costs over $4000+ for a used engine. Radiator fluid had been topped off 3-4 times this year but we did not realize it was leaking into the engine. A full recall should be issued for this, it is a known issue and Honda is aware of it. The warranty extension is not enough if the issue is going to keep occurring.

Beginning in April 2024, I noticed that my steering wheel would catch slightly when I was driving straight ahead, so that I needed to overcorrect left and right, with resistance in the steering wheel (like it was moving between two notches). This would happen whenever I drove my car straight ahead. I took my car to the local dealer and, after the first visit where they said I should get four new tires in case stretched bands in my tires were causing the steering problem, on a second visit they diagnosed an internal rack problem and advised a steering rack replacement. The car mileage was slightly under 33,000 miles at this time. I reached out to American Honda about the problem, and after they reviewed my case, they provided some goodwill toward the steering rack replacement, they said in part because I've routinely taken my car to the local dealership for service. The steering rack was replaced in September 2024.

I have been experiencing engine and transmission issues for nearly 2 years. I have under 90k miles and am the 2nd owner since 2017. There is lack of power, speed inconsistencies, sputtering and hesitation upon acceleration. It feels unsafe. I have taken the vehicle in for a diagnosis and they stated it was an issue with the turbo and it has failed. This should not have occurred as the vehicle is under 120k miles. I have since paid to have it repaired at the cost of $5678.00

Over a several month period the car was losing radiator fluid. I figured it was probably a stuck thermostat and the fluid was coming from the overflow. But only once did I see a minimal amount of fluid. Not near the amount that had been lost in the cooling system. Fast forward a few months and I am driving home. Top speed starts out at the speed limit of 70 and slowly slips to 65 then 60. Giving it more gas would increase the rpms but no power or forward thrust was making to the tires. It was as if, it was falling into neutral. The next morning drive to work was much worse. starting with a top speed of 65 within 10 miles on the highway the top speed went to 55 then to 45 then 35. When the top speed was 45 mph I took the first exit and made it through a stop sign on the service road. With a crawling speed of 10 mph it limped into a strip-center parking lot. Once it was stopped, pushing the gas pedal would increase rpms but no forward movement. So, I assumed a new transmission (CTV) was in my future and had it towed to a local dependable, honest, five-star reviewed auto shop. They found it misfiring and upon investigation find radiator fluid in the oil. So, they tell me the engine died and they could not even check the transmission. In the end, a used engine with 40K miles was put in it, a newer used transmission, and a new turbo (it was bad too). $14,000 + dollars is what the shop charged in June of 24 and Dec of 23. I tried to no avail to have the turbo covered under a lifetime warranty of an autobody shop that had replaced it following a road hazard claim that damaged it.

At highway speeds or after driving longer distances there is an increased amount of effort needed to turn the steering wheel. When making slight adjustments the steering wheel “sticks” and then overcorrects sometimes causing my car to shift into the other lane. I have had several others drive my car and notice the same issue.

The A/C unit is continuously giving out. The condenser and compression shaft have been replaced twice and have now damaged the evaporator causing it to leak. Due to the A/C system blowing hot air, driving in the high degree weather has became a risk to myself and passengers. Dealership has checked if the parts affected were under warranty to resolve issue, however, Honda does not cover evaporator leak problem even though multiple owners have complained about issue. The repair quote is costing owners more than $2k out of pocket that they may have to replace again in a short time. Causing financial burden from the brand's negligence. Issue will first blow hot air on the driver side and the passenger side will soon follow suit.
