The contact owns a 2016 Chrysler Town & Country. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45-50 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact also stated that the headlights became significantly dim; additionally, the taillights failed to work as designed. The vehicle was taken to a Pep Boys to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. Then, the vehicle was taken to an independent transmission specialist who diagnosed that the transmission torque converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the entire transmission needed to be replaced. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V461000 (Power Train). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they would cover the labor for the transmission replacement. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.

The oil filter adapter housing is plastic and was leaking oil. The leak was so much that there was burning oil smell in the cabin while driving. The oil leak could potentially reach the exhaust manifold causing a vehicle fire. I was able to replace the faulty oil filter housing unit with a non-plastic unit. This is a well known issue with the Chrysler products that have the pentastar engines.

The car is at the dealer now for diagnosis and potential repairs. Pentastar V6 motor that had similar problems in the past.

Ignition Switch. The switch moves somtimes out of run postion, turning off the engine, spesially when the engine is worm. ( I found this information in my Hayes Repair Manual where they also says it has a recall since 2015) Dealer claimed it was a computor glitch. Only the dealer ship. The Techs could could not get a clear signal that's why they said it was a computor glitch. But I think they know more because they said it might be the ignition switch. When I asked they if the had one they said no because they are waiting for parts from China....

Driver side sliding door cannot be opened either remotely or manually, Something is non-functional inside the door. In order to exit the vehicle, people must climb over to the front seat or across the vehicle to the passenger side sliding door. If this were to happen on the passenger side, the only way out is through the front doors. This must be a design issue as the vehicle has NOT been in any accident--people in the rear seats are at risk if they need to exit quickly. Previously told by a mechanic shop, this was an actuator problem. Chrysler has now extended the warranty on the actuator, but now they say it is a latch issue not covered by the extended warranty, and want $1100 to repair it. Latch, actuator, or whatever reason, no vehicle door should ever get into this type of mode. I have now spent $320 on two different analyses over the past 2-1/2 years.I will not pay $1100 for something that Chrysler should be responsible for.

Back sliding door inoperable, dealership sold the vehicle this way, neglected to disclose the issue. When we noticed we refused the sale, dealership added to the sale contract that it would be fixed before delivery, vehicle was not fixed before delivery after several attempts, and a third party off site company attempted to fix the issue. Dealership had the vehicle for 36 days before coming to a temporary fix, door still has issues opening and closing. Sometimes won’t open at all or just close instantly after opening pinching/crushing anyone who isn’t fast enough to get out of the way in the door. Door has also come completely off the track at one point. The door will not stop if it starts to close, it will slide closed into you or a child, the censors do not work as designed apparently. I sincerely hope for a fix as I am terrified of my children being trapped in emergency situation, or in general entry exit of vehicle.

Driving home from work with vehicle behaving normally. I slowed down for traffic light and felt a hesitation when trying to accelerate. I was then unable to gain speed and was impeding traffic. The vehicle was inspected by a certified auto repair where they were unable to drive and had to push into garage. Diagnostic code for loss of hydraulic pump pressure, internal transmission failure. The transmission was replaced At that time.

While driving in traffic my transmission failed due to a pump failure in the transmission (diagnosed by a mechanic after the incident and having to be towed to a shop). The car stalled in the middle of an active intersection. My make and model and manufacture year was involved in a recall for this exact problem but for unknown reasons my VIN is not included. The car has been meticulously maintained and has less than 50,000 miles. The check engine light appeared immediately prior to the car losing power.

The headrest came apart while car was parked and turned off. If the driver was behind the wheel when this happen, there is a good possibality it may have cause the driver to have an accident. The car have been to a service center to check about replacing it. There was no warning before the headrest came apart. It is my understanding that Chrysler knew about the defect but I have not received a recall notice. It seem this part is expensive to replace and I don't see that it is my place to lay out the money. Can Chrysler be held accountable?

This summer our driver’s side sliding door stopped working. It will not open manually or with the buttons in the car or on the remote. Around the same time, the lock on the passenger side sliding door started to buzz every time it unlocked. This weekend, the passenger side sliding door became stuck closed as well. Neither door is functional. I have a child in a 5 point harness that must be in one of the middle seats. It is very difficult to get her in and out. In the case of an emergency, we would be struggling to get the 4 kids out of the back. I see that you are doing an investigation, so I wanted to be sure and report the problem. We have not pursued a repair yet as it is not in our budget.

Likely transmission pump failure or torque converter failure. Mileage is approximately 69,000. This is the second failure with same symptoms. Transmission slips out of gear, whines, clicks. Whining goes away when placed in neutral. After transmission slipped check engine light came on, no prior indication this was going to occur. Safety jeopardized on this occassion as we were pulling out of driveway located on blind curve when transmission failed. No collision occurred, but no action could've been taken to avoid collision if a vehicle come around curve. Was towed to Moore Ford Hartford Kentucky where the first repair was made. There was a known recall on 2015-2016 chrysler town and country for this problem. Dates of Manufacture: JUL 30, 2015 to APR 17, 2016 Manufacturer Recall Number: S44 NHTSA Campaign ID: 16V461000 Unsure if this unit was included in recall, but with this being second failure during our ownership I believe it deserve attention.

Greetings, My name is [XXX], age 27. I am a young single mother of two children, and as I felt like I was truly blessed to get any car that would be reliable to take me to work. Unfortunately, I was leased a 2016 Chrysler Town Country vehicle, as I still owe $11,000 after making monthly payments of $367.00 since May 13th, 2021., with a $4,200 payment down. What I thought was a blessing for my situation, but in reality it was a predatorial loan in disguises from The Contra Costa County, public Auto Auction. As I only had this car for 5 months, I am now seeming to be extremely frustrated that I am being charged $500.00 to get my car serviced, as Chrysler Dealership is the only reliable source to service this vehicle due to the complication of their being a specific machine to add transmission fluid into the transmission. There is a check engine light exact for my transmission sensors, but it actually needs to be changed immediately. Due to my financial hardship that COIVD has caused me as a young single mother, I am unable to pay for this unknown excessive charge for the proper service. This is causing a huge delay within trying to get this problem fixed before the transmission ends up blowing out on me. I was also informed that I would not be eligible to get a rental in return for the amount of days that It will take to get an appointment at a Chrysler Dealership. Please have a supervisor contact me immediately regarding this concern, this is causing a serious matter. My contact information is as listed below: [XXX] Thank you in advance for your time, and consideration regarding this unfortunate disaster of getting this specific car without knowing exactly what programs I would run into in the near future. Contact Me As Soon As Possible Regarding Any Updated Information Regarding This Matter. Best Regards, [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
