A message keeps popping up, “trailer brake system” it is poor wiring on GMC part. I did research on this and looked it up and other people had similar issues which can be very severe if driver continues to use after this message pops up. The message is so continuous that it could distract the driver, which could lead to a fatal accident.

brake pedal takes much more effort to push I was parking the car and thankfully was only going about 2 mph because I had to press the brakes with two feet to stop it from hitting the car in front of me. We just arrived from a 2 hour trip and this happened at the end of our trip. Lucky it wasn’t on the highway or with a pedestrian in front of me. No injuries

While I was in line at the gas station to get gas, I moved up because the car I front of me had done so. After moving up a bit, I pressed my feet on the brake but the pedal was very stiff and the breaks did not hardly engage. I almost ran into the vehicle in front of me. This was very scary. So I called for a tow truck to pick me up but after a while they didn’t show. I started my car up to see if the the brakes engaged and they did. So I slowly and carefully drove myself to the GMC dealership in Southaven, MC which was 0.3 mile away from the gas station. The GMC dealership said that it was vacuum pump that was at fault and admitted it was a recall for this. But they said since my truck has already been serviced for this recall that I would have to pay to get it fixed. This is absolutely absurd. If the issue was not fixed properly in the first place, why would I be responsible for getting it fixed the second time?

The contact owns a 2015 GMC Yukon Denali. The contact stated that while his mother was driving approximately 50 MPH, the brake service warning light illuminated and the vehicle started to decelerate as if the brakes were engaged. The contact's mother was able to pull over safely and turned the vehicle off and on and was able to continue driving to her destination. The brake failure persisted. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

The service brake assist warning message keeps appearing. Additionally, when the vehicle is completely stopped, but then you let off the brake to roll forward a little bit (such as at a stoplight), when you press the brake again it does not have stopping power. Must pump the brake several times as the vehicle rolls. This is particularly dangerous in downhill stops. It appears there is a safety recall on the power assist vacuum for brakes on 2015 GMC Yukon XL, but for some reason, my VIN is not included in the recall. I would like to know what it would take to include my VIN in the recall because it is the same year, make, and model.

Last week, the power brake assist began fading away intermittently at low speeds, and caught my wife off guard in a grocery store parking lot when she pulled into a parking space and the brakes were not available. She had to plant both feet on the brake pedal in a panic stop before crashing into the car parked in front of her, and has since never driven the vehicle. This is a danger, and is potentially life threatening.

Brake Assist Light came on. Pierre brakes failed and had to press down hard manually to get the car to stop. Felt antilock breaks were assisting. We felt very unsafe. It’s very scary.

I was dropping my daughter off at school in the car line. I was at low speed trying to brake and with the brake all the way down couldn't stop immediately. I was able to stop but then went to go again and when tried to stop again, couldn't and hit the car in front of me. It was making a sound while trying to brake but wouldn't engage my brakes. Luckily it didn't leave any damage and the other driver said it was OK and accepted my apology as my brakes were not working correctly.

Brakes are not stopping the vehicle on short distances as it should. They are doing a clicking kind of noise and can feel pulses in the brake pedal as though ABS are trying to activate. I know there is a recall out but is saying my 2015 is not listed yet is doing the same thing that is described in the recall.

LED Brake Lights fail due to design error typically on both side of the vehicle. I have found multiple reports of a failure on a circuit board that was poorly designed. A copper tracing is very narrow and fractures due to vibration resulting in Brake Light failure. Because the entire module must be replaced the repair costs $800-$900 per side.

FIRST NOTE THAT OUR RECALL FOR INCREASED PEDAL EFFORT WAS DONE ON OUR 2015 GMC YUKON 2 MONTHS BEFORE THIS INCIDENT. OUR VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED COMING HOME FROM MAMMOTH ON THE 15 FREEWAY. WE HEARD WHAT WE DESCRIBE AS A 'BUZZING' NOISE BUT WE COULDN'T TELL IF IT WAS OUR CAR OR ANOTHER ON THE FREEWAY IT ALMOST SOUNDED LIKE TIRE TREAD BEFORE YOU HAVE A BLOW OUT. WE SLOWED DOWN A BIT (65-70MPH) TO CHECK OUR SURROUNDINGS. A FEW MINUTES LATER WE STARTED TO LOSE CONTROL OF OUR YUKON. I STARTED TO UNBUCKLE AND CLIMB TO MY HUSBANDS DRIVERS SEAT BECAUSE HE WASN'T RESPONDING TO OUR SCREAMS AND HE LOOKED ILL. AS I WAS SCREAMING HIS NAME HE FINALLY SAYS INTO MY EAR WE HAVE TO CRASH! I PANICKED AND SCREAMED WHAT IS HAPPENING. HE REPLIES 'WE HAVE NO BRAKES'! THE PEDAL WAS AS HARD AS A ROCK LIKE A BRICK WAS UNDERNEATH IT AND OUR CAR WAS SERVING BACK AND FORTH. AS TRAFFIC SLOWED AND WE PREPARED TO CRASH INTO THE CAR IN FRONT THE CENTER DIVIDER OPENED UP AND WE WERE ABLE TO CRUISE DOWN IT UNTIL WE SLAMMED E BRAKE ON. THESE MODELS SHOULD NOT BE ON THE ROAD AND WE COULD HAVE VERY EASILY DIED OR KILLED ANOTHER FAMILY IN THE PROCESS! ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE ON GMS PART! TERRIFYING! THERE HAS BEEN NO VACUUM PUMP RECALL PLACED ON OUR YUKON AND IT WAS THE VACUUM PUMP THAT FAILED WHICH MADE THE BRAKES FAIL THERE WAS NO BACK UP ZERO BRAKES WITH A FAMILY OF 5 IN THE CAR ON THE FREEWAY! EVERY OWNER WHO OWNS A 2015/2016 SHOULD BE AWARE THAT THIS CAN HAPPEN TO THEM. IT'S NOT JUST AT SLOW SPEED. WE HAVEN'T STEPPED FOOT IN OUR CAR SINCE OUR KIDS ARE SCARED TO DEATH TO RIDE IN ANY CAR THAT LOOKS LIKE IT.

THE BRAKES FAILED IN MY CAR CAUSING A REAR COLLISION WITH AN OBJECT IN MY DRIVEWAY. AFTER INSPECTION FROM A CERTIFIED GMC DEALERSHIP, THE BRAKE FAILURE WAS NOT CAUSED BY SERVICE NEGLECT OR AGE OF BRAKES, IT WAS DUE TO THE VACCUM PUMP FAILURE TO PROVIDE PRESSURE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN TWO YEARS THIS PART HAS CAUSED MY BRAKES TO FAIL. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE PART AT NO COST THOUGH THERE IS NOT FORMAL RECALL ON THIS PART. BOTH TIMES THIS PART FAILED THE CAR WAS IN MOTION. THE FIRST TIME IT WAS TOWED OUT OF A CITY TO BE REPAIRED AS IT WAS DANGERSOUS TO DRIVE AND THE SECOND TIME THE FAILURE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO COLLIDE WITH A LARGE DUMPSTER IN MY DRIVEWAY CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. THANKFULLY THERE WAS NOT PHYSICAL DAMAGE TO ANY PERSONS IN EITHER OF THESE TWO INCIDENTS WHICH BOTH WERE NO FAULT OF THE DRIVER OR OWNER OF THE CAR.

THE BRAKES ON MY 2015 GMC YUKON SUDDENLY BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO OPERATE WITH VERY HARD BRAKE PEDAL AND INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS NO OUTPUT FROM THE ENGINE VACUUM PUMP TO THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND IT WOULD BE ADDRESSED UNDER A SPECIAL COVERAGE WARRANTY FROM GM REPAIRED. HOWEVER, AFTER FIXING THE COVERED PART OF THE VACUUM PUMP ASSEMBLY, THEY INDICATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS STILL PREVALENT AND DETERMINED THEY ALSO NEEDED TO REPLACE THE BRAKE BOOSTER THAT WAS ALSO AT FAULT. THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE SPECIAL COVERAGE AND RESULTED IN A SIGNIFICANT CHARGE. IT SEEMS THAT THE BRAKING SYSTEM ISSUES ARE RELATED AND NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO FURTHER.

How to use these: a complaint is one owner’s report, filed voluntarily and published unverified. Patterns matter more than any single story. If several owners describe the same failure at similar mileage, put that system at the top of your pre-purchase inspection list. Back to the full 2015 GMC Yukon Denali Xl 1500 verdict →
