While driving my 2023 Porsche Taycan under normal conditions, the plastic underbody protection panel on the bottom of the vehicle came loose and detached. The metal underneath the plastic panel is now visibly bent. I did NOT hit any object. There was NO impact. I did NOT hear or feel anything during driving. There were no warning lights, alarms, or messages on the dashboard. The first indication of any problem was discovering the detached plastic and bent metal after the fact. This is a serious safety concern because the underbody panel on the Taycan protects the high-voltage battery, battery cooling lines, and suspension components. Damage to these components can cause battery thermal events (fire risk), coolant leaks, or loss of vehicle control. PATTERN OF SIMILAR FAILURES: This is not an isolated incident. Other Porsche Taycan owners have reported nearly identical failures on public forums (TaycanForum), where the underbody protection panel was damaged or detached without any felt impact, no audible noise, and no warning. In at least one documented case, the resulting battery and coolant line inspection costs exceeded $70,000. Porsche's own internal tolerance for underbody panel deformation is extremely tight (3mm in the center zone), suggesting the design is vulnerable to routine road conditions and debris. SAFETY RISK: - Risk of high-voltage battery damage and thermal runaway / fire - Risk of coolant system failure - Risk of detached panel becoming road debris and causing crashes for following vehicles - No driver warning or indication when failure occurs VEHICLE INFORMATION: - Year: 2023 - Make: Porsche - Model: Taycan - VIN: VIN: [XXX] ION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The in-cabin heater stopped working, and the temperature is in the single digits outside (currently 7 degrees), so I was not able to use the defroster to clear my windshield and it was dangerously cold inside the vehicle.

Numerous electrical issues plaguing the vehicle. These issues pose a significant risk to both myself, my family and other road users. Specifically, the car intermittently fails to recognize the key, both when starting and during operation. Most alarmingly, the vehicle has demonstrated a dangerous behavior wherein it fails to detect my grip on the steering wheel, resulting in the sudden application of brakes and seizure of steering control. This will only happen when going 45mph or faster and will occur randomly regardless of where my hands are on the steering wheel or whether I'm turning or going in a straight line.

My car indicated that there was a collision imminent when there was nothing in front of me and no car within any reasonable distance ahead of me either. The car tried to apply the brakes momentarily and then stopped. This happened on the I280 Northbound Lawrence Expressway exit headed towards the stop light at the Stevens Creek Blvd junction. The ground was slightly damp, but there were no apparent objects in the road.

This car completely shut down on a busy motorway and would not restart while blocking traffic. I called Porsche Auto service for a tow on a flatbed truck. They did not arrive for almost 5 hours while the car was dead standing still on a busy major intersection. Porsche has had this car in repair and have still not updated what caused the problem or scarier yet IF it will happen again. This car has less than 1400 miles and is only. 3 months old.

How to use these: a complaint is one owner’s report, filed voluntarily and published unverified. Patterns matter more than any single story. If several owners describe the same failure at similar mileage, put that system at the top of your pre-purchase inspection list. Back to the full 2024 Porsche Taycan Turbo S verdict →
