On three separate occasions the back doors of the truck opened while the car was at speed. The first time (1/20/26) it was the passenger-side back door. No one was sitting in the car aside from the driver. Driver noticed the door ajar light come on after being at speed and then looked back to see the back door slightly opened, then pulled over and closed it. The second time (1/23/26) was three days later with a driver, passenger (front) and child (carseat behind driver) in the car leaving home. Driver noticed the door ajar light come on after being at speed and then looked back to see the driver-side back door slightly opened, then pulled over and closed it. The third time (1/23/26) was the same day, a few hours later with same driver, passenger, child in carseat on a return trip home. The passenger in the front looked back to see the driver-side back door completely open and notified the driver who then pulled over and closed the door. We called the dealership and they told us to bring it in immediately. We brought it in around 2/3p and by end of day the dealership responded with the following: "11224 checked the function of all doors. found normal operation. all doors working properly. scanned vehicle, no fault codes stored. please have customer make sure no one is the backseat that could've possible opened the door by accident. if a child is in the back seat pls be sure to turn child lock on by pushing switch on inner part of door. no problem found. have customer monitor and return if necessary." There was no indication that they drove the car and tried to replicate the conditions. Either way, there seems to be no explanation or resolution.

How to use these: a complaint is one owner’s report, filed voluntarily and published unverified. Patterns matter more than any single story. If several owners describe the same failure at similar mileage, put that system at the top of your pre-purchase inspection list. Back to the full 2023 BMW X6 verdict →
