When the battery voltage suddenly drops the vehicle loses its power steering making slow speed turns extremely difficult. This poses a serious risk of the inability to control the direction of the vehicle and this makes a crash extremely probable.

The contact owned a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that while her grandson was driving at various speeds, the steering wheel locked and the vehicle lost power steering and functionality. The vehicle flipped over several times. An unknown warning light illuminated. It was unknown if the air bags were deployed. A police report was filed. The contact’s grandson was taken to the hospital via ambulance due to sustaining injuries to the back and neck. The vehicle was towed to a local towing yard. The insurance company was contacted and deemed the vehicle a total loss. The insurance company towed the vehicle to an unknown location. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 27,000.
