What 413 owners told NHTSA about the 2021 Hyundai Palisade Hybrid Hev

I am writing to formally request reconsideration of Hyundai’s denial of assistance for the transmission failure in my 2021 Hyundai Palisade. I purchased this vehicle with the expectation that Hyundai vehicles are built to provide dependable transportation and that major components such as the transmission would last well beyond the current mileage and age of the vehicle. Unfortunately, I have experienced a significant transmission failure that has resulted in substantial repair costs. I have made every effort to properly maintain this vehicle and have acted responsibly as an owner. Given the relatively recent model year of the vehicle, I believe a transmission failure of this magnitude is unreasonable and may indicate a defect in materials or workmanship. I respectfully request that Hyundai review my case again and consider providing goodwill assistance, cost-sharing, or full coverage of the transmission repair. As a long-time consumer, I am extremely disappointed with the current outcome and hope Hyundai will stand behind its product. I would appreciate a written response explaining the reason for the denial and any options available for further review.

When driving at low speeds and going over bumps and speed bumps there is a thumping noise coming from the driver’s side rear. I’ve had the issue for quite some time now and there is a TSB on it for a faulty shock insulator. Between 2 different dealerships they have replaced it 3 times now and it’s doing it all over again. The 2021 Palisades started riding very rough and bouncy. I made an appointment and took it to Edmond Hyundai for the repairs. They initially said that the rear insulator-strut needed to be replaced and they would order them. It took 10 days to get the parts from Dallas and made another appointment to get it fixed. The dealership took 6 hours to replace only the insulator and kept it over night to do the 4 wheel alignment which they would not cover as warranty per the Service Manager but it was need. I picked it up the next day only to discover that only the insulator was replaced and was told that the service tech test drove the vehicle and it's fixed. I drove out and tested the suspension, it took only 1 mile and back it went to get fixed.

Have had rear shocks replace twice by the dealer with less than once at 35,000 miles again at 60,000 mile on the SUV. now with around 70,000 miles on the SUV the shocks need replaced again. It is unacceptable for a manufacture to know how bad the shocks are on a vehicle and not come up with a better design. This is a border line safety concern suspension plays a vital role in a vehicles road manners and ability to maneuver car in hazardous situations. 1. When accelerating, the entire car shudders intermittently but especially after letting off of the accelerator and then reapplying pressure to the accelerator. 2. No one else has inspected this at this time. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms. When driving at any speed bumps on the road cause very bumpy ride. Dealer states Hyundai's TSB 22-SS-001H has been rescinded. Shocks failed within 33,000 miles. No remedy for knocking and rattling noise in rear of vehicle caused by shock mounts. I was unable to use my seatbelt because the end that accepts the strap, would not allow the seatbelt to click in to the device. I had to drive without a seatbelt several miles. I tried probably 20 times to get it to click in before giving up. My husband was able to somehow reset the mechanism, and it appears to be working fine at the moment. but I fear I could get either locked in or out of the seatbelt in the future. There was no warning the seatbelt was having an issue prior to this event. Also, it appears my model, the 2021 Hyundai Calligraphy is not included in the service bulletin campaign with the issue of a knock in the rear end (my noise is coming from the right rear area of the vehicle. Most likely the rear shock absorber, upper insulator. I'm not sure of the safety issue this will cause. Hyundai wants to charge me $160.00 to tell me if that is what it is. Knowing the other models in this year have this issue My vehicle has approx. 68,000.00 miles. They have told me my warranty expired at 60,000 miles.

Paint started chipping… Dealer stated it was from a rock, however a rock chip doesn’t cause a whole section of paint bigger than a quarter to just flake off.. ironically there was another vehicle on the lot having the same issues . Lasty the suspension it has clicking noises that cannot be resolved.

I just (this week) replaced all four tires and did 65,000 mile routine maintenance on this vehicle. During these services, it was inspected by local Hyundai dealership and they confirmed the need for them to be replaced but car is available for additional inspection at any time. We first noticed a slight noise coming from the rear end about 4 months ago and it's progressively gotten worse and more frequent. I drive a considerable amount for work and I'm very concerned this is going to cause handling issues while on the road, especially during rainy weather. Internet forums are full of complaints of the same nature with these vehicles with low mileage. I don't know why Hyundai is not addressing this as a safety recall.
