What 594 owners told NHTSA about the 2020 Jeep Wrangler 4-door 4xe

Wife’s 2020 Jeep Wrangler’s IPC above the steering wheel went blank. No speed, no fuel gauge, no odometer or warning lights, no turn signal indicators. Chrysler Safety Recall (30B) (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 24V652000) states there is a problem with these including our year Wrangler, 2020. Dealer said we are out of luck because when they type in our vin number into their database, no safety recalls are listed. This problem is all over the internet 2018-2024 Wrangler (JL) models. What gives???? Don’t even know how much gas we have! 6 year old car should NOT have the IPC shut off! If that’s not a safety concern, don’t know what is????

That didn't correct the instrument cluster however but they did find a recall 30B for 2020 Jeep Wrangler. I called Stellantis (1 800 334 9200) today, Feb 16th . I was told by 3 different people in 3 different departments that even though there is a safety recall on 2020 Jeeps my VIN# isn't included. I asked why not and was told that it depended where the Jeep was made. They also told me that the repair will be at my expense. This doesn't seem fair to me because the recall is a safety issue to replace the instrument panel cluster free of charge. Just because my Jeep VIN# wasn't included doesn't mean it wasn't going to fail like the others that were included!! I have no readouts on my dashboard and am sure it won't even pass inspection now because of that, let alone serious safety concerns without warning lights. This vehicle had an alternator issue but could not be determined without extra tooling and labor to diagnose the problem. Safety is of paramount concern. Vehicle was taken into a dealership for inspection and determined that the "ICP" had failed and needed to be replaced for approximately $1600. This was before recall #30b had been initiated. The recall seemed to include this vehicle given the year and model listed in the recall order. Strangely, it is not included for this particular vehicle which is exhibiting the exact symptoms listed in the recall order.

Steering wheel electrical failure. Melted wiring inside steering wheel. Potential airbag and steering safety failure. Serious safety defect. Fire risk! While getting ready to leave a retail parking lot with heated steering wheel on, we became overwhelmed with fumes. Noticed the steering wheel was hot. Immediately shut off the car and opened the doors. When the fumes subsided, started the car and made sure the heated steering wheel was off. It no longer worked at all, when car was re-started. This could have been life threatening had we been traveling on the highway and not in a parking lot. Took vehicle to our dealer- Central Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge for repair. Dealer service advisor unable to diagnose exact cause due to extent of damage. Also commented shock that we didn’t experience a fire that could have caused the airbag to explode as well. Service advisor stated steering wheel heating element short and steering wheel wiring to clock spring melted due to excessive heat in circuit. I requested photos. I received one photo. I do not believe there were further inspections. Repairs were completed at my expense. Both dealership and Stellantis refuse to cover the cost of repairs citing I had no warranty coverage. I believe this goes beyond normal wear and tear. I did smell something mild, like sugar burning earlier in our errands yet it dissipated quickly and I assumed it was outside, in the air. It wasn’t until the overwhelm of fumes upon starting the car in a retail parking lot that we became aware there was a serious problem and immediately turned the car off.

I know this is part of a recall but like the last time something happened to my jeep with the gas( huge safety violation) that costed $1400 to fix- Jeep obviously doesn’t care about safety. The entire instrument cluster failed on my 2020 Jeep Wrangler and had to be completely replaced at the dealer. One day, when starting the vehicle, the entire cluster was off with no advanced warnings, no speedometer, no fuel gauge, no warning lights, no odometer, and no information display of any kind. The vehicle would still operate, but all gauges and dashboard functions were non-functional. To make matters worse, this occurred as we were leaving the hospital with our [XXX] child during a snowstorm. Our child had just been admitted for three days to the PICU for RSV-related issues. The safety of our infant was directly put at risk due to the complete loss of all dashboard and warning information while driving in hazardous conditions. We took the vehicle to the Plainfield, Indiana Jeep dealership and were informed that the entire instrument cluster needed to be replaced. We were charged $1,526 for this repair. Now, approximately one year later, the replacement instrument cluster is exhibiting similar issues. While driving, the cluster will randomly flicker or blink, indicating the underlying electrical or instrument-panel defect was not fully resolved. During these events, visibility of speed, warnings, and vehicle status is temporarily lost. This remains an ongoing safety concern. Given that NHTSA has opened an investigation into Jeep instrument-cluster failures, I believe this issue represents a systemic defect rather than an isolated incident and warrants further review.
