The contact owns a 2017 Mercedes-Benz E400 Coupe. The contact stated that the silver metal coating on the seat release lever was rough and jagged on both driver and passenger sides of the two door vehicle. The contact's son had grabbed the front seat release lever to access the rear passenger’s side seat and cut his hand. The cut was approximately 2-3 inches long. No medical attention was needed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the contact was informed that the failure was common with the vehicle and that the coating was known to peel due to heat. The contact was concerned that the failure occurred as his vehicle was stored in the garage and sustained less heat exposure due to its maintenance/care. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 42,000.

FRONT DRIVERS AND PASSENGER DOORS DO NOT STAY OPEN, NO TENSION AND DOOR CLOSES BACK ON YOU AFTER OPENING. WILL NOT STAY OPEN ON ZERO GRADIENT OR WHILE UPHILL. MERCEDES BENZ DEALERSHIP ATTEMPTED TO FIX AND CHANGE HINGES NUMEROUS TIMES. NOT HAS BEEN FIXED. DOOR HING HAS ZERO TENSION AND WILL NOT KEEP FRONT DOORS OPEN. VERY DANGEROUS IF CHILD IS IN BETWEEN DOORS AND DOOR CLOSES ON YOU. HAS INJURED AND BRUISED LEGS NUMEROUS TIME FOR NUMEROUS DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS.

THE CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE AFTER IT BEING IN SERVICE AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE CAR WAS SENT TO THE CAR DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES BECAUSE THE AUTO START WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THE CAR WOULD JUST STOP AND COULD NOT TURN BACK ON SO I HAD TO GET IT TOWED 3 TIMES...... AFTER THE LAST TIME IT CAUGHT ON FIRE WITH THE PASSENGER INSIDE THE CAR..... PASSENGER IS OK DID NOT GET HURT BUT IT WAS A VERY TRAUMATIZING EXPERIENCE. THE CAR IS NOW A TOTAL LOSS AND I'M STILL WAITING ON THE DEALERSHIP TO INVESTIGATE THE FIRE AND TO PAY FOR THE CAR.

How to use these: a complaint is one owner’s report, filed voluntarily and published unverified. Patterns matter more than any single story. If several owners describe the same failure at similar mileage, put that system at the top of your pre-purchase inspection list. Back to the full 2017 Mercedes-benz E-class Wagon verdict →
