On several occasions, the system would activate the panic braking while driving at low speeds in a few different situations. One situation is while pulling into a 2 car garage with objects along the garage walls, i.e. shelves in front of vehicle, lawn equipment on the side, grill on opposite side. While entering the garage the system would engage well before the front of vehicle is close to the shelving. Another occasion happened in a parking lot while driving at low speeds with no other vehicles or objects near the vehicle.

Driving Eastbound on I470 Wheeling WVA going uphill toward Exit 10 Cabela Rd the car lost power and could not get off the roadway. The engine failed and the car lost power steering. Could not start the car. The car would turn over, but the engine and battery light were on. The car was sideways in the right lane of traffic unable to be started. State Patrol was called to the area and the vehicle was towed to a Mazda dealer. Mazda dealer determined that the PCM (powertrain control module (PCM) has detected a malfunction in the fuel pump control module) - they noted: "Found code p064a and in TSB 01-010/17 states that PCM needs to be reprogrammed if no other fuel pump codes are detected, no other fuel pump codes were found." Their explanation was that after driving for a long period of time that the computer no longer allowed fuel to the engine. Their actions to correct - "Comments from Service department: We reprogrammed the PCM and cleared codes, test drove and rescanned for codes and found none." This was a known problem by Mazda and they had issued a service bulleting TSB 01-010/17. The bulletin was issued PRIOR to us purchasing the car but the update had not been done on our vehicle, nor had it been done by any Mazda dealer we had taken the car into for service over the past 4 years. This issue that was known by Mazda created a safety issue by shutting off the fuel pump. We were driving at 70 mph on the interstate and could have been hit or worse yet killed. Mazda should have to recall these vehicles and pay for expenses incurred by owners. Mazda will not reimburse us for our expenses. We have contacted them.

2017 Mazda CX 9 signature engine failure at 89,000 miles. July 2021 check engine light came on, this was three months prior to failure. Was told it was a known computer issue and was charged over $200 to fix. November 2021 car started running hot while driving down the road. Red thermostat came on while driving. Was able to get the vehicle to the Mazda dealer that has done routine service on the vehicle. Was told it needed a new engine. Called Mazda customer service and was told it is a known issue with the turbo charge engine. This is a safety risk to myself and others because it could have gave out in traffic.

Spider crack screen on the infotainment system. I got the vehicles pre-owned at Major world. When we got the vehicles there were small cracks already showing not bigger than the size of a dime but the cracks got bigger and I'm afraid that the whole screen will complete not work in time.. I just had a diagnosis done for the infotainment system at Koeppel Mada yesterday and they told me that they couldn't see any point of impact on the screen there is also no physical damage on the outside screen so that only tells us that the screen that I have is defective and should also be replaced. There is SSP program that extends the warranty to replace the screeen screen for Mazda CX9 produced February 11 , 2016 - April 29, 2017 but issue doesn't only involve only those vehicles produced on those days. This issue is happening to Mazda CX9 2016-2018.

I BOUGHT A USED 2017 MAZDA CX-9 FROM WEST SHORE HONDA IN TAMPA IN JULY OF 2020. THEY SCREWED ME FINANCIALLY AND I'LL HANDLE THAT SEPARATELY. THERE HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE SINCE THE FIRST FEW DAYS AFTER BUYING THE CAR. I'VE COMPLAINED MULTIPLE TIMES VIA EMAIL AND PHONE. I'VE BEEN TRYING THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT COUNTLESS TIMES. THEY KEEP STATING IT'S A TIRE ISSUE. TO THE POINT THEY HAVE REPLACED THE TIRES 3 TIMES. AFTER THE SECOND TIME I HAD ALREADY DECIDED IT'S NOT TIRES. THE CAR HAS A VERY ROUGH RIDE WHEN I'M MOTION. ONCE YOU GOT 80 IT WOBBLES. AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS THE WOBBLE CAN BE FELT AT LOWER SPEEDS OF 55/60. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON BUT I'M TOLD THERE'S NO CODES WHEN THEY DIAGNOSTIC THE READING. I'VE EXPRESSED THAT WHEN I PULL INTO MY GARAGE WITHIN 30 SECONDS TO A MINUTE THERE'S A LOUD POP IT'S WHEN THE CAR IS NOT IN MOTION WHEN IT'S BEEN PARKED AND TURNED OFF IS WHEN I NOTICED IT. I BROUGHT IT TO MY PERSONAL MECHANIC JUST TO LOOK AT AND DRIVE AND HE'S PRETTY CERTAIN IT'S A POWERTRAIN BEARING OR SOMETHING OF THOSE SORTS. BROUGHT IT BACK TO WESTSHORE AND THEY PUT ANOTHER SET OF TIRES ON IT. THIS IS BEEN GOING ON NOW FOR 9 MONTHS AND AFTER DOING RESEARCH ONLINE AND SOME OF THE NHTSA IDS THIS IS A PROBLEM AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE. AND IT NEEDS TO BE HANDLED THE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS IN TIMES THAT I VISITED THAT DEALERSHIP TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND ALL THEY DO IS PUT NEW TIRES ON IT IS ASININE. I HAVE TONS OF DOCUMENTATION THE SAME DOCUMENTATION THAT'S AT THE DEALERSHIP I DO EVERYTHING VIA EMAIL FOR THAT REASON.

AFTER DRIVING FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 HR, WARNING MESSAGE FOR FRINT CAMERA AND AUTO BRAKE MALFUNCTION ILLUMINATED. POWER WAS DECREASED QUICKLY, NOT EVEN ENOUGH TINE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. VEHICLE WAS DISABLED IN FAST LANE OF 4 LAND HIGHWAY. WHILE WAITING FOR TOW TRUCK, AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR THE VEHICLE RESTARTED, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED BUT VEHICLE WAS OPERATING NORMALLY. CALLED MAZDA DEALER TO CANCEL TOW AND ADVISE I WOULD DRIVE TO DEALERSHIP. HEADED TO DEALERSHIP, ABOUT 45 MINUTES AWAY, CAR DID SAME THING, JUST CUT OUT LEAVING ME STRANDED IN SLOW LANE OF 6 LANE HIGHWAY. CALLED MAZDA THEY ARRANGED TOW, AFTER AN HOUR OF WAITING I TRIED TO RESTART AND IT DID. DROVE REST OF WAY TO MAZDA DEALER. THEY CALLED NEXT DAY AND SAID THAT THE COMPUTER LOST COMMUNICATION, THEY RE-FLASHED THE ECM AND ARE GOING TO KEEP IT A DAY TO DRIVE.

How to use these: a complaint is one owner’s report, filed voluntarily and published unverified. Patterns matter more than any single story. If several owners describe the same failure at similar mileage, put that system at the top of your pre-purchase inspection list. Back to the full 2017 Mazda Cx-90 Phev verdict →
