My oil filter housing is cracked. I have a 2017 and it is plastic I know after 2017 Jeep knew of the issue and changed the production type then. This is a known issue. Happens to many Jeeps I hear about it a lot. It’s a $1000 fix for something that is common in Jeeps and other pentastar 3.6l engines. I am getting it fixed this week for I am getting a kidney transplant and need it done before the surgery.

Oil cooler assembly cracked and warped (also k own as oil filter housing) this led to a large oil leak and depleted all oil from engine. Repair was over $1,000. All mechanics are saying this is a known issue and becomes expensive because both intake manifolds need to be removed to replace

Oil cooler warp/crack because the bottom is made of plastic stored inside engine where extreme heat causes warp/crack on the cooler. Ultimately leaks out oil, causing saftey hazards to the community and owner. A known defect/issue with all penstar engines (other vehicles with this engine are affected). There should be a recall for this issue/defect. I hope NHTSA do a thorough investigation on this issue. Thanks!

Oil cooler housing has serious design flaw. It is made made of plastic and is subject to warp and crack from constant heat exposure leading to failure and catastrophic oil leakage onto hot engine with significant risk of fire as result.

Oil Filter Assembly failure. This issue has been consistent in respective Chrysler engines since 2014 without resolve or re-design. I have been without vehicle since the 24th (today is 3/3) and renting a car out-of-pocket. The parts are backordered as I've been told there are restrictions by Chrysler on these discontinued replacement parts. Repairs cost upwards of $1,000 depending on the dealer and situation (if oil hasn't damaged other surrounding parts). All forums are consistent in that there has been no recourse by any representative from Chrysler or, in my case, Jeep. The anticipated costs in my situation are likely to exceed $2,500 given the schedule of the repair and any secondary damages by the leaking oil.

The Oil Filter Assembly is defective. It leaks oil. Yes it’s available for inspection. Oil leaks onto engine and eventually to exhaust system. This will result in smoking and fire. This has been identified by an independent service center and numerous social media sites. Has not been inspected by those listed above. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to a scheduled oil change wherein the defect was discovered. This first appeared 6 months ago.

WHEN THE HEAT WAS TURNED ON A BURNING SMELL WAS DETECTED. VEHICLE WAS TAKING TO THE DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND AN ANALYZE FOR THE BURNING ODOR, THIS VEHICLE IS AT 52000 MILES. RESULT: MAJOR LEAK TO THE OIL FILTER HOUSING AND THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT IS ALSO LEAKING GREASE. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT BEING USING FOR OFF-ROADING OR 4WD DEALER STATED THAT THE OIL FILTER HOUSING WAS FIXED AND THE VEHICLE CAN BE DRIVEN WHILE WAITING ON THE OTHER PARTS. I CONTINUE TO DETECT THE BURNING ODOR. THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO LEAK OIL. ON FURTHER INSPECTION THE COOLANT AND THE RADIATOR IS EMPTY. DEALER MECHANIC STATED THAT THE RADIATOR IS LEAKING AND THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE. I AM NOT THE ONLY CUSTOMER THAT IS HAVING THIS ISSUE; WHEN INQUIRED ABOUT A RECALL, I WAS TOLD THAT CURRENTLY THE MANUFACTURE DOES NOT HAVE ONE IN PLACE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE MANUFACTURE IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE IT AND ONCE THE VEHICLE REACHES 50,000 MILES AND OUT OF WARRANTY, IT IS NOW THE CUSTOMER PROBLEM.

WE WERE PARKED, WITH MOTOR RUNNING AND GOT A SLIGHT WHIFF OF THE SWEET ANTI FREEZE SCENT. TOOK IT TO A SHOP WHO SAID WE HAD A VERY SMALL HOLE NEAR THE TOP OF THE RADIATOR. AFTER RESEARCH, WE SEE THIS IS A HIGHLY REPORTED PROBLEM. ON A 3 YEAR OLD VEHICLE? WE HAVE A 15 YEAR OLD VW BUG CONVERTIBLE AND A 20 YEAR OLD FORD F150 AN HAVE NEVER HAD ISSUES WITH THE RADIATORS. SO DISAPPOINTED IN THIS!

I HAD BEEN DRIVING ABOUT 2 HOURS WHEN I NOTICED A SMELL. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND GOT OUT TO TAKE A LOOK. I FIRST WALKED TO THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE AND FOUND NOTHING. I TURNED AROUND AND STARTED FOR THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WHEN I NOTICED SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE HOOD. I LEANED IN THE TO DRIVERS SIDE TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND SAW FLAMES. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF ANY ISSUES, NO LIGHTS, NO PERFORMANCE ISSUES, ETC. EVERYTHING WAS STILL WORKING FINE WHEN I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF.*DT THE CONSUMER PROVIDED PHOTOS. *TR

FAULTY RADIATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS MAINTAINED REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND NEVER HAD ACCIDENTS OR ISSUES. THE TEMP STARTED OVERHEATING AND UPON INSPECTION THE MECHANIC STATED THE RADIATOR WAS CAUSING IT. MY RESEARCH ONLINE SHOWS MANY OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN ON A CAR THAT IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD!

How to use these: a complaint is one owner’s report, filed voluntarily and published unverified. Patterns matter more than any single story. If several owners describe the same failure at similar mileage, put that system at the top of your pre-purchase inspection list. Back to the full 2017 Jeep Wrangler 4-door 4xe verdict →
