Engine blew up before oil change was required and car is under 100,000 miles Engine presumably failed on the way home from work, was making a sound. Parked the car, got in the next morning to take it to the repair shop. Check engine light came on during transit. They called and said there was a rod bearing failure and advised that I have it towed to Hyundai for possible warranty work. Car will be repaired in 4-6 weeks. Nalley Hyundai in Lithonia Georgia is not able to provide a loaner car as there are 11 people on the waiting list before me. I have 2 kids and a full-time job. I now have no car for 2 months.

Door latch assembly failed and will not allow driver side door to be opened after locking. Door must be opened from inside to get in. Both rear doors were already repaired several years ago for same issue under warranty but that has now expired.

The car would hesitate to accelerate causing the engine to rev high and then take off. It had gotten progressively worse with no error codes detected. With a lack of code, nothing could be done. My daughter was not comfortable driving the car due to the fact it had gotten so bad so I was driving her to school. While going 50 mph the engine started to rev high then completely died with no error or warning. I was able to coast off safely, however an inexperienced driver may not have been able to do the same. A recall needs to be issued ASAP before there are more serious consequences.

Engine has been burning through oil fast, requiring me to add oil every couple of weeks. 2 difference service places have told me this and also told me to contact Hyundai to file a complaint, as many other 2017 Hyundai Tucsons have recalls out for the same reason. This could cause an engine to fail if oil burns all the way out without my knowledge - safety hazard for me and others on the road. Car also sputters and struggles to accelerate at times, which has been an issue since getting the car in 2020. Please consider recalling to fix said issues.

Have been driving the vehicle for nearly a year but while driving my motor blew exhausting blue all black smoke and then when I turn the car off the car was completely dead when I was getting it towed it could not be told because both of the front wheels had locked and no matter if I put the vehicle in neutral the car will not move come to find out that the bearing ride has shot a hole through the motor block. Took the vehicle to two different Hyundai dealership was told the same thing that no one would take the vehicle or trade it in for an the value for another vehicle that I was stuck with the vehicle and had to pay for the damages which was about 12 Grand also vehicle has been down in my driveway for the last year now cuz Hyundai refused to pay it without $190 diagnostic fee again on top of 12 Grand to replace my motor and the vehicle is not even worth all that money when I don't have much left to pay on it even though I only had the vehicle for only 2 years now but only driven it for only one. Lastly I've also read where there was a recall on these vehicles for the the baron rod and the engine malfunction as well as a new system being put into this these vehicles I was not aware of these recalls because it purchase of this vehicle was right when the recall window had closed and I ended up having a problem now they won't do anything about it can someone please do something about this vehicle.

Had had the vehicle approximately four months (purchased at Irwin Dealership in Laconia, NH) when the vehicle would not start. It was rendered non-functional. It was “repaired” in February 2023. When picked up in Feb after Irwin dealership in Laconia, NH had had it for almost 3 wks, they told me it had carbon buildup. It had only been driven about 4,000 miles since it had been purchased on [XXX], 2022. They changed the oil (oil changes are recommended every 5,000 miles). It died again on [XXX], 2023; again it had been driven less than 4,000 miles and was not yet due for an oil change. It has been there since. They (Irwin) wanted service records, I told them all I had from prior to purchase was the carfax, and that they had performed the only service because I hadn't driven it long enough to have even had a second oil change. When Irwin submitted documents to Hyundai, they indicated the issues with the car were due to neglect and poor maintenance. Hyundai refused to replace the engine citing that I had failed to provide service records. The car remains at the dealership, despite payments being made on a vehicle that can not be used. My engine began consuming oil at a faster rate. My miles per gallon decreased. Then while driving, my engine lost power, and then the check engine light came on without warning. Pulled into the closet mechanic (less than 2 miles) and mechanic found that I had lost all compression in cylinder 3 of my engine and that there was a large carbon build up. My engine just failed. I bring my Tucson in every 5000 miles for service.

I religiously come into a auto repair shop for oil changes. Well before my next scheduled change, my engine started to make thumping noises. I filled up the engine with oil before taking it in to the auto body shop. The shop informed me that the engine needs to be replaced. They also informed me that this seems to be a recurring issue with Hyundai's and that a lot of owners are experiencing high oil needs for their engines. Neither my check oil light or check engine light notified me that there was low oil before the damage occured on my engine. I have filed a report with Hyundai as well and am still waiting to hear back from them.

The engine sustained a crack and oil was leaking out of a cylinder. Initially thought to have been an oil problem since the check oil light would come on. Vehicle was taken to a dealer where they determined it was a bad cylinder. They did not have the correct tools to get into the block so they kept the vehicle for over a month. They returned the vehicle back and shortly after the issue started to happen again. The engine was knocking really loud and cannot accelerate over 40 miles an hour. We took it back to the dealer where they determined that it was a faulty engine and had requested all of the oil change and maintenance records. This vehicle had been taken back to the dealership on multiple occasions for routine maintenance. Talking to the maintenance technicians they could not find any record of us taking the vehicle there mentioning that the dealership had changed hands. We had records from oil changes at one other location but the dealership deemed negligence for the engine failure. This is about a three-year-old case and car was ay 109,00 miles

After owning my vehicle for 4 years, it has started burning oil. Burning about 2 quarts every 14 days. Was directed by dealership to perform oil consumption test every 1000 miles, which is all logged through the dealership and was sent on my way. The problem is now affecting my spark plugs and could packs. After all we're replaced/changed, when plugs are removed, they are covered in oil and are fried! Hyundai has not addressed the issue, but many consumers have this same problem.

There's a known leak with oil in the engine, this was brought to the dealers attention and they said it was a known issue however no fixes were avaliable. While driving on the highway without warning I lost accelerator access. The car wouldn't go. The engine started knocking and would not propel forward. It was advised after diagnostics were done that two of my cylinders lost compression and therefore the engine was blown. They said this is a highly known issue with Hyundai Tucson 1.6T engines. I've lost money, time and work behind this ordeal.

I am writing to report a serious issue with our 2017 Hyundai Tucson. As the first and only owners of this vehicle, we have diligently maintained it through authorized dealerships. However, in May 2023, while driving on the highway, the car suddenly lost power and would not accelerate beyond 30 mph. There were no warning lights or indications prior to this incident. My wife managed to pull the car to the side of the road and slowly drove it to the dealership. Despite having only 30,000 miles on the odometer from personal use, we were shocked to learn that the engine had suffered significant damage due to low engine oil. Notably, we had recently serviced the vehicle at the same dealership just a few months earlier. The dealership informed us that the engine needed replacement, but the process took nearly a year. During this time, we were left without our vehicle, causing considerable inconvenience and financial hardship due to renting replacement vechile . We find it concerning that an engine failure occurred despite our regular maintenance and adherence to authorized service centers. We kindly request an investigation into this matter and hope that steps can be taken to prevent similar incidents for other Hyundai Tucson owners. Additionally, we urge Hyundai to address this issue promptly and transparently.

We purchased a 2017 Hyundai Tuscon in April 2023 with 79 k miles. Realized after a short time that it was consuming too much oil. Started doing some research and found that this has been a problem for many Hyundai/Kia engines. We were checking the oil often and topping it off as needed plus, oil changes at 3000 miles. There were no check engine lights on and no leaks of fluids on the ground, no loss of power. Fast forward to March 2024. Driving down the interstate on a trip the engine just shuts off. Luckily my daughter was able to make it to the shoulder without getting hit by another car. The vehicle would not restart. I started looking for someone to tow the vehicle a State Trooper stopped to assist her and her passengers. Vehicle was towed. Mechanic charged the battery, checked the terminals, tested the alternator, and the belt. All were good. No idea why it just shut off. After charging battery for an hour, she was able to limp the Tuscon to the nearest dealership. The vehicle started losing power going uphill and regained speed on the flat areas on the way to dealership. The Hyundai dealer diagnosed the issue as leaking valve seal, oil soaked ignition coil causing the misfire which then started to plug up catalytic converter and fouling the spark plugs. I told the service person I will be contacting Hyundai and she said that the diagnosis did not qualify for the engine replacement and the estimate to repair was $5600. While we were there we checked into trading in. We paid $16,000 in April 2023 with 79k miles. March of 2024 Kelly Blue Book says it’s worth only $8300 (93k mileage) and they offered $4000 trade. Loan balance is $14,000. This incident could have caused my daughter and her passengers (one was an infant) to get into a horrific accident on the Interstate with traffic driving 70 mph. Now we are dealing with this economic hardship. My research shows many of the engines of various models of Hyundai and Kia’s are failing. No current recalls!

On March 9, 2024, I was driving when suddenly a warning light sounded from the dashboard that the engine "overheated" and there's a loss of power. I was very scared driving for the first time in my life. Before I pulled over to a safe place, a driver nearest to my car pulled his window down and shouted that my car was smoking. I was terrified. This incident triggered my husband's mental health conditions. I called my niece who is a registered nurse to help us. I called my car insurance for towing to the next dealership that I called about what happened. After I rented a car, I went to the dealership. However, the Service Department was closed after 4:00 pm. The next day (Monday), I received text messages that they're working on my car and the only communication was "text messages." I was stunned! The next message was transmission problem, the cost of repairing it, and authorization to fix at $1,581.40. Because my rental car was not cheap and needed a car to doctors and other appointments made on that week, I agreed to proceed. After I signed the authorization from text messages, I got a call from a service advisor to acknowledge the cost of the repair. I asked about the engine and he said it's okay. By Wednesday afternoon, I received a call that my car was done. Before this incident (2 weeks?), I called the same dealership when it's time for an oil change, but was told at 72,000 miles. Then I received a call that my car needs a transmission check up for $1,200 or more, but I told him I'll wait for the next oil change. Last year, I reported to other dealership that my engine light was on, but was told to go to Autozone. I didn't do it because the light didn't appear again. My car has been maintained by local dealership since I bought it in 2016. One dealership would not pick up my calls after fixing the side door locked from inside/outside. As this is not a traffic related incident, my car insurance doesn't want to be involved.

Driver/ Front door latch does not open from the exterior. This is a problem on many Hyundai Tuscons from 2016-2021. Hyundai has not addressed the problem. This issue was recalled on their previous models - but not the current ones. This is a safety issue if there is an accident first responders have to break the glass to get to the passenger.
