The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate, the transmission failed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25-30 MPH, the vehicle was making an abnormal rattling and knocking sound that was coming from the engine while accelerating. The transmission was shaking continuously while driving at 10 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with camshaft and engine failure and needed a cam finish over an advanced timing system overhaul. The contact was informed that the camshaft, CVT, timing chain and tensioner, front valve cover and valve cover gasket, turbocharger, turbocharger gasket, and turbocharger lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The contact was topping off the oil weekly. The failure had become more persistent. While driving 65 MPH, the vehicle started shaking and was making a knocking sound at the front-end by the engine compartment. The check engine warning light was flashing. The contact coasted to the side of the road and checked the oil level. The oil level was low, and the contact added oil to the vehicle. The contact restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle began shaking, making a knocking sound from the front end, and there was white smoke coming from underneath the hood of the vehicle. The vehicle was turned off, the smoke ceased, and the vehicle was left parked in the parking lot at work. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while his girlfriend was driving approximately 50 MPH, the engine started knocking, and the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the engine was consuming one quart of oil every week. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who determined that the engine was blown. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the drive belt was frayed, the crank pulley was deteriorating, and that there was a misfire in cylinder #4. The catalytic convertor DTC code: P0240 was displayed, the exhaust was burned, and there was excessive oil consumption. The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was informed that there was no warranty coverage on the vehicle. There was no assistance provided. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

Upon inspection of the engine compartment, the contact discovered that the oil level was low. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the contact was initially informed that the failure was normal with similar vehicles. The contact stated that the failure persisted, and the vehicle failed to start with the oil warning light illuminated. The contact checked the oil level, and the oil was full. The vehicle eventually started with the check engine and air bag warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

The vehicle was towed to the residence and then to a local dealer where the failure was related to an engine malfunction and oil leaking. The contact was advised that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the transmission was previously replaced twice. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that heavy, black smoke would emit from the tailpipe upon the start of the vehicle without warning. Upon inspection of the vehicle, the contact discovered that the oil level was low. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where a diagnostic test was performed, and the diagnostic test showed that the vehicle was consuming excessive amounts of engine oil. The contact was informed to bring the vehicle back to the dealer every 1,000 miles to track the oil consumption. The oil gasket, oil filter, and oil pan were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact back to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000

Not to long after I purchased the car I have to put oil in the car every 4 to 5 weeks.Sometimes the motor sounds like it’s going to blow.The car slows down and sounds loud.Never once has a oil light turned on.When I checked the oil it doesn’t appear on the stick.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer to service recall NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V727000 (Engine); however, the recall was not related to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000. The consumer stated that the vehicle was not repaired. The issue still persists, and the oil light never comes on. An oil consumption test from the mechanic was requested and the vehicle is to be checked after 1000 miles. Unfortunately, the oil only lasts approximately 400-600 miles before the engine starts knocking.

The vehicle was repaired; however, the transmission then started slipping and would not properly change gears. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was 45,000.
