My mechanic said that he believes there is a recall on a recalled part this was previously repaired per Mercedes notice of safety recall dated April 2018. The recall remedy provided by the manufacturer has failed to permanently fix the safety defect, and the vehicle remains unsafe to drive. "On certain Model Year (“MY”) 2014-2017 B-Class electric, MY 2012-2018 C-Class, MY 2012-2017 E-Class, MY 2014-2018 CLA, MY 2015-2018 GLA, MY 2016-2018 GLC, and MY 2013-2015 GLK-Class vehicles, an electrostatic discharge, when combined with a broken steering column module clock spring and an insufficient grounding of the steering components, could lead to an inadvertent deployment of the driver airbag. An inadvertent driver airbag deployment may cause a risk of injury to the driver and might increase the risk of a crash." Currently my airbag and horn do not work as a result of this defect and Mercedes said there is no current safety recalls, however this is the exact issue that was replaced and fixed before I purchased it. They want to charge me a $300 diagnostic fee, (when my mechanic has already looked at it), I am not wanting to pay the dealership for an issue that is clearly related to the recall issue that was not properly fixed. My car is a safety issue to myself and anyone if I drive it, my horn does not work, so that makes it hard to prevent accidents and my airbag, upon reading further online, could potentially deploy and CAUSE and accident.

WE HAVE A 2016 MERCEDES C-300 VEHICLE THAT HAD A RECALL ON THE STEERING COLUMN CONCERNING A LATCH BOLT. UNKNOWN IF THIS RECALL PERTAINS TO THE SAFETY CONCERN ITSELF, AFTER THIS FIX THE ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION SYSTEM FAILED AND CAUSES THIS VEHICLE TO LOSE POWER STEERING AND WOULD/CAN RESULT IN A CRASH. MY FAMILY WAS TRAVELING AT SPEEDS OF NEARLY 70MPH ON THE INTERSTATE AND THE ENTIRE STEERING SYSTEM SHUT DOWN FORCING US TO MANUALLY FORCE THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WHEN THIS FAILS, IT WILL ONLY STEER STRAIGHT AHEAD, IF YOU ARE STEERING IN ANY DIRECTIONS, YOU MUST FORCE THE STEERING WHEEL TO RIGHT OR LEFT. MERCEDES SAYS THEIR PRODUCTS OFTEN FAILS AND THIS IS ACCEPTABLE. EVERYONE MUST UNDERSTAND WHEN THIS FAILS THIS VEHICLE WILL ONLY STEER STRAIGHT IN THE PATH IT IS GOING, IF YOU FAIL TO CATCH THIS IN TIME, THE VEHICLE WILL CONTINUE ON THE PATH TO WHERE THE STEERING WHEEL IS CENTERED, IF YOU DO NOT CATCH THIS IN TIME THE FORCE OF THE VEHICLE TO STAY ON PATH IS UNCONTROLLABLE. THE COST TO REPAIR IS OVER $4300 AND MERCEDES WILL NOT WORK TO FIX THIS OR TAKE NOTES TO HOW SERIOUS THIS PROBLEM IS.

MY CAR HAS SHUT OFF ON ME WHILE DRIVING TWO TIMES AND ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE CAME OUT TWO DIFFERENT OCCASION. I KEPT UP WITH MAINTENACE ON THE VEHICLE. I WENT TO PEP BOYS UP THE ST FROM MY HOUSE INSTEAD OF MERCEDES FOR OIL CHANGES. OUT OF NO WHERE MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I TOWED MY CAR TWO MERCEDES TO FIX. THEY SAID MY ENGINE BLEW N THE TURBO . THEY WON'T COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY SINCE I GAVE THEM ALL MY MAINTENCE RECEIPTS FROM PEP BOYS . THIS WAS A DEMO CAR I ORIGINALLY LEASED AND HAD IT FOR 2 YEARS WITH 9 MONTHS LEFT ON THE CAR. THE RECALLS ON THE VIN WERE NOT FIXED AND MERCEDES IS TRYING TO SEND ME AWAY WITH A UNFIXED CAR. PLEASE HELP

I WAS DRIVING MY CLA IN THE RAIN ON THE 405N IN IRVINE, CA AT ABOUT 4PM TO GO TO MY NEW PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT FOR ONBOARDING. I WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 25-30MPH BECAUSE OF THE WEATHER AND TRAFFIC IT WAS VERY SLOW. I PUT MY BLINKER ON TO MERGE OVER INTO THE SECOND LANE AND MY CAR BEEPED AND AUTOMATICALLY WENT INTO NEUTRAL. I COULDN'T DO ANYTHING, IT FELT LIKE MY STEERING LOCKED UP AND I COULD ONLY SLIGHTLY MOVE THE WHEEL, MY BLIND SPOT ASSIST WAS INOPERABLE, MY DASHBOARD LIT UP EVERY LIGHT/WARNING SIGN IT COULD AND I COULD NOT SWITCH GEARS. I HAD TO SLOWLY ROLL TWO LANES OVER INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE WHILE IT WAS POURING RAIN. I ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED BECAUSE OF HOW SLOW MY VEHICLE WAS MOVING OVER. I DID NOT TURN THE VEHICLE OFF BECAUSE I WASN'T SURE IF I WOULD BE ABLE TO RESTART IT. I WAITED ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY FOR 2 HOURS TO GET TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP WHICH WAS NEWPORT BEACH FLETCHER JONES. ABOUT A WEEK PRIOR TO THIS I HAD MY BATTERY CHANGED AT MERCEDES BECAUSE IT COMPLETELY DIED AND WOULDN'T HOLD A CHARGE. WHEN I GOT TO THE VEHICLE I WAS INFORMED THAT 2-3 OTHER CLA'S CAME IN THE SAME DAY, WITH THE SAME PROBLEM.

How to use these: a complaint is one owner’s report, filed voluntarily and published unverified. Patterns matter more than any single story. If several owners describe the same failure at similar mileage, put that system at the top of your pre-purchase inspection list. Back to the full 2016 Mercedes-benz CLA verdict →
