My f-550 super duty diesel dump truck lost power on the highway because of a known fuel injector pump defect. The pump exploded into metal pieces that clogged all fuel lines leading to a loss of power on a highway putting everybody at risk of a collision. This fuel injector problem is known to ford and is subject to class action lawsuits. The dealer confirms that this is the problem. Apparently for the last decade, this pump has been known to fail because it was designed for European diesel not American diesel which because of the low sulfur content makes the pump cavitate because of lack of lubrication and explode. There was no indication of failure prior to the incident.

This submission is more related to a brand-new fuel line that was purchased from the Ford dealer for this vehicle upon failure of the existing line. When the new line was removed from the packaging, the mechanic inspected the clip that secures the line to the secondary fuel filter housing. It was observed that the brand-new clip was defective and that even the slightest touch of the clip would unlock the line. It is believed that if this line were installed in the vehicle, the vibration of the engine could potentially unclip the line causing fuel to spray in the hot engine compartment. The line was retained and can be provided for examination.

The truck was traveling west on [XXX] towards Stockton when the instrument panel illuminated with a “Low Fuel Pressure” warning and the coworker (CW) immediately pulled over. Once on the side of the road, the CW confirmed the truck was leaking fuel and the local garage was contacted. It was found that a line running to the secondary fuel filter had come loose and was leaking from the fitting. I'M REPORTING A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT MY 2015 FORD F550 WAS JUST DIAGNOSED WIT. THE DEALER IS ASKING $15,800 TO REPAIR IT. THE FUEL SYSTEM, IS CONTAMINATED, IS HAS A LOT OF OXIDATION, THE FIX INCLUDES REPLACING THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM.

2015 FORD F550 V10 GAS MOTOR, THE ENGINE BLOCK HEATER SHORTED OUT AND CAUGHT FIRE. LUCKILY ONLY THE LICENSE PLATE AND AN EXTENSION CORD WERE DAMAGED AS WELL AS THE BLOCK HEATER ITSELF. CONTACTED THE TRUCK DEALER AND FORD FLEET, AND NO ONE CARES. VEHICLE WAS PARKED. I JUST HAPPENED TO WALK PAST AND HEARD THE CRACKLING NOISE. SUPER HOT, VERY LUCKY TO JUST BE THERE AT THAT MOMENT.

THE VEHICLE IS A MOTOR HOME MANUFACTURED BY THOR MOTOR COACH THAT THEY ADDED TO A MODIFIED 2015 FORD F550 CHASSIS. ALTHOUGH THOR MODIFIED THE CHASSIS, REPLACED THE FRONT BUMPER AND QUARTER PANELS AND ADDED THE COACH BODY TO THE FRAME, THEY FAILED TO DO ANY ALIGNMENT PROCESS TO MAKE SURE THAT THE BODY AND THE FRONT WHEELS WERE PROPERLY ALIGNED. THIS FAILURE HAS LED TO SEVERE WEAR TO THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE CREATING A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. ON PAGE 121 OF THE OWNER'S MANUAL IT STATES THAT THE FRONT SUSPENSION AND STEERING SYSTEM WAS FACTORY ALIGNED PRIOR TO DELIVERY TO THE DEALERSHIP. HOWEVER, THE HAVE FAILED TO SUPPLY ANY DOCUMENTATION REGARDING THIS AND THE ANTIDOTAL INFORMATION FROM FORD AND OTHERS IS THAT THOR DOES NOT DO THE NEEDED ALIGNMENT AFTER SUCH A SEVERE MODIFICATION. WHILE THEY TRY TO PASS THIS OFF TO THE CONSUMER, THERE IS ONLY ONE SENTENCE REGARDING THIS IN A 151 PAGE MANUAL. ALTHOUGH I HAVE OWNED OTHER MOTOR HOMES PREVIOUSLY THE PROCESS OF LEARNING EVERYTHING ABOUT A NEW MOTOR HOME IS QUITE OVERWHELMING. SECONDLY I AM NOT AWARE THAT VEHICLE MANUFACTURE PASSES THIS SAFETY CONCERN ON A NEW VEHICLE TO THE CONSUMER. LASTLY MOTOR HOMES ARE THE LARGEST, HEAVY VEHICLES WITH CHALLENGING HANDLING CHARACTERISTICS DRIVEN BY NON-PROFESSIONAL DRIVERS, MANY OF WHOM ARE SENIORS. THE MANUFACTURES SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING SURE THAT THE VEHICLES ARE PROPERLY ALIGNED FOR SAFE OPERATION AND TIRE WEAR. THE FAILURE TO PROPERLY ALIGN THE VEHICLE AS A FINAL MANUFACTURING PROCESS HAS LEAD TO SEVERE TIRE WEAR CAUSING A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND SIGNIFICANT EXPENSE FOR THE OWNER TO REPLACE THE FRONT TIRES AND HAVE THE PROPER ALIGNMENT DONE IN ORDER TO MAKE FOR SAFE OPERATION. ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS NEW WHEN PURCHASED IT HAD 2,598 MILES ON IT. THE DAMAGED TIRE WAS NOTED AFTER A CROSS COUNTRY TRIP OF NEARLY 10,000 MILES.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD F-550 SD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH IN REVERSE, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE PUSHED INTO THE CONTACT'S DRIVEWAY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED WHILE IN DRIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000.
