Engine motor mount sheared, allowing motor to interact with and bounce directly on the frame, and stressing the other connections and components. Dealer indicated this is a very common problem for this car model and is likely a design issue, and even had another example of a sheared mount on display in order to show others with the same issue.

I WAS DRIVING, MAKING A RIGHT TURN WHEN I HIT A ROCK ON THE ROAD WITH MY FRONT RIGHT TIRE. AFTER THIS, I WOULD HEAR A THUMPING SOUND WHILE TURNING. THEN WE LEARNED THAT THE MOUNTING KIT OF THE FRONT STRUT CRACKED; THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT OUR DEALERSHIP MENTIONED THAT IT'S A COMMON ISSUE AMONG MY MAKE AND MODEL OF CAR.

MY CAR WOULD MAKE A NOISE AT THE REAR OF THE CAR WHEN I DROVE ON A BUMPY STREET, I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND AFTER THERE INSPECTION , THEY SAID THE REAR SWAY BAR LINKS HAD TO BE REPLACED. I AM CONCERNED THAT IF THE ORIGINAL PARTS WERE DEFECTIVE, MAYBE THE NEW PARTS WILL ALSO BE DEFECTIVE... THE CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY, THE DEALER IS MAKING THE REPAIRS...UPDATED 10/15/15 *BF THE DEALER STATED THE REAR SWAY BAR LINK WAS NOT THE PROBLEM CAUSING THE NOISE. UPDATED 10/20/15 *JB

How to use these: a complaint is one owner’s report, filed voluntarily and published unverified. Patterns matter more than any single story. If several owners describe the same failure at similar mileage, put that system at the top of your pre-purchase inspection list. Back to the full 2014 Mini Cooper S Clubman verdict →
