I was driving on I35 on 10/23/2025 when I saw a small spark then my vehicle caught fire and i exited the vehicle called 911 Lewisville Fire Department and was informed that they responded to vehicle fire on 10/23/2025 at 9:45 pm, their case number is 2025-0012175. The representative stated that the Lewisville Police Dept. also completed a report, case number 250068809.

Oil Filter Housing cracked. Oil pools on top of engine and under intake manifold. Oil runs down the right side of engine - taking out an oxygen sensor in the process as the wiring harness gets soaked in oil. Oil ran down onto transmission and exhaust manifolds creating odor and a lot of smoke - not to mention the oil all over my driveway and street. Evidently, this is a known problem to the manufacturer. It is reported hundreds of times on this site and thousands of times on various internet sites. Clearly there are manufacturing problems that are at fault and creating serious safety and economic impacts to owners. Research across various platforms indicates that it is not a matter of "if this will happen," but "when" it will happen. Where is the accountability to the manufacturer? Why is NHTSA NOT doing something to protect the consumer and the public?

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING THEIR VEHICLE THEY NOTICED A STRONG ODOR OF BURNING OIL COMING INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT PARKED THEIR VEHICLE WHEN THEY GOT TO THEIR RESIDENCE AND NOTICED A LARGE OIL LEAK COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL DEALER COUNTRY CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (2705 N MICHIGAN ST, PLYMOUTH, IN 46563) WHO DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE AS A CRACK OIL HOUSING WHICH CAUSED THE OIL LEAK FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED BECAUSE THE DEALER STATED THE PARTS FOR THE REPAIR WAS ON BACK ORDER AND THEY DO NOT KNOW WHEN THEY WOULD HAVE IT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.

THE LOCAL DEALER NESTER JEEP LOCATED AT 7566 W HOUGHTON LAKE DR, HOUGHTON LAKE, MI 48629 CONTACTED REGARDING THE FAILURE.THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT YET NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.

THE CONTACT CALLED LOCAL DEALER JIM FALK CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (195 S PUUNENE AVE, KAHULUI, HI 96732: (808) 893-7760) AND WERE MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED AS OF YET. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000.

ENGINE OIL LEAK (FIRE HAZARD). THE ENGINE OIL FILTER HOUSING (PART NUMBER 68105583AA) IS WIDELY REPORTED TO FAULTY BY OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE YEAR (2014). THIS PART CRACKS UNDER ROUTINE DRIVING AND LEAKS ENGINE OIL ONTO HOT SYSTEM COMPONENTS, SUCH AS THE EXHAUST CROSS OVER AND TRANSMISSION, WHERE THE OIL BURNS AND CREATES A FIRE HAZARD. MYSELF AND MY PASSENGERS HAVE NOTICED THIS SMOKE BEFORE IT IGNITED. HOWEVER OTHERS HAVE REPORTED A FIRE. THE OIL LEAK GENERALLY OCCURS WHEN THE ENGINE HAS COME UP TO TEMPERATURE AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN MOTION LONG ENOUGH TO REACH NORMAL OPERATING OIL PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE. THE PROBLEM OCCURS IF THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY OR IN MOTION, REGARDLESS OF ROAD CONDITIONS. THE LEAK IS NOT IMMEDIATELY DETECTED BY A LOW OIL PRESSURE, HIGH TEMPERATURE, OR OTHER SIMILAR WARNING, FURTHER INCREASING THE FIRE RISK. FURTHER, THE LEAKING OIL POSSES AN ENVIRONMENTAL DANGER AND IS HAZARDOUS. PRIOR MODEL YEARS HAD A DIFFERENT, METAL PART WHICH DOES NOT CRACK AND LEAK UNDER ROUTINE USE. IT IS BELIEVED WHEN THIS PART WAS REPLACED WITH A PLASTIC COMPONENT IN 2014+ MODELS, THE NEW, PLASTIC PART WAS DEFECTIVE OR INSUFFICIENT FOR ITS HIGH TEMPERATURE OPERATING ENVIRONMENT INSIDE THE ENGINE. THIS PART SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPLACED BY THE MANUFACTURER (FCA). ATTACHED PHOTO SHOWS: OIL (LIGHT BROWN) POOLING BENEATH LEAKING OIL FILTER HOUSING (FOREGROUND) ON THE ENGINE BLOCK ITSELF.

2014 JEEP WRANGLER PENTASTAR OIL COOLER LEAKS WHICH POURS ONTO EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND STARTS ON FIRE. HAPPENED TO ME COMING HOME FROM WORK. LUCKILY I WAS IN THE DRIVEWAY AND I PUT IT OUT WITH MY EXTINGUISHER. OIL EVERYWHERE LEAKING DOWN ENGINE AND ON THE UNDER CARRIAGE. CAUGHT IT IN TIME AND NOTHING ELSE WAS EFFECTED. GOOD THING I WASN'T ON THE FREEWAY WITH MY WHOLE FAMILY IN THE VEHICLE. FCA US LLC SHOULD FIX THIS ISSUE. VERY SCARY ESPECIALLY WHEN UNEXPECTED. OIL COOLER/OIL FILTER HOUSING AND GASKETS HAVE A KNOWN DEFECT THAT CAUSES OIL TO LEAK ONTO AND INTO ENGINE COMPONENTS, SUCH AS THE RADIATOR, CAUSING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. JEEP/CHRYSLER/DODGE/RAM TECHS KNOW THAT THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT, AND THE LEAKING OIL CAN AND DOES BURN, WHICH CAN LEAD TO A TOTAL ENGINE FIRE!!! I FIRST NOTICED THE ISSUE WHEN I SMELLED BURNING OIL. THINKING IT WAS JUST A MINOR ISSUE THAT COULD BE FIXED WHENEVER I HAD THE FREE TIME, I CONTINUED DRIVING FOR ANOTHER WEEK OR TWO UNTIL SMOKE STARTED COMING OUT OF THE ENGINE! I FINALLY TOOK IT IN BECAUSE THERE WAS WAY TOO MUCH SMOKE TO BE SAFE (FIRE?). THE TECH THAT WORKED ON MY JEEP, MIKE POLLARD, SAYS HE SEES THIS ISSUE ALL THE TIME, ADVISED ME TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS AND THEN FILE FOR REIMBURSEMENT WITH THEIR CORPORATE OFFICE SINCE IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND MY JEEP ONLY HAD 43,500 MILES ON IT (WELL UNDER THE 100,000 MILE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY). WELL, I DID AS HE ASKED, BUT CORPORATE CUSTOMER CARE IS USELESS, WILL NOT REACH OUT TO THE TECH AS ASKED, AND ARE DOING THEIR BEST TO NOT PAY BECAUSE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THERE IS NOT A RECALL. EITHER WAY, THIS ISSUE CAN START A FIRE IF LEFT UNFIXED. JEEP KNOWS THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE, YET WILL NOT DO A RECALL UNLESS FORCED (MONEY OVER SAFETY). ON 12/04/2016 I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT AROUND 80MPH WHEN A LOAD EXPLOSION STOPPED MY ENGINE. I IMMEDIATE STOPPED AS SMOKE STARTED TO COME INSIDE THE CABIN. AS SOON AS I EXITED THE VEHICLE I NOTICED A BIG FIRE UNDER THE CAR AND INSURE THE HOOD. I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE FIRE OUT USING 3 FIRE EXTINGUISHERS. THIS REALLY COULD'VE ESCALATED QUICKLY. I NOTICED A BIG HOLE ON THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE. LOOKS LIKE IT THREW A ROD SINCE THE OIL PRESSURE WAS LOW. PROBABLY DUE TO FAULTY OIL FILTER MOUNT. THE EXACT REASON FOR THE ENGINE FAILURE AND SUBSEQUENT FIRE HASN'T BEEN DETERMINED YET AS THE DEALER WILL OT LOOK AT IT UNTIL CHRYSLER SENDS AN INVESTIGATOR TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE. CHRYSLER WILL NOT SEND AN INVESTIGATOR AND IS ASKING FOR THE DEALER TO LOOK AT IT. IT'S BEEN OVER 10 DAYS AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. SO FAR, NEITHER PARTY HAS TAKEN THE ISSUE SERIOUSLY. STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT WHEN NOTICING A LIGHT GRAY SMOKE AROUND THE VEHICLE. CONTINUED FROM THE STOP LIGHT WHEN THE SMOKE STARTED TO GET MORE DARKER AND BLACK.
