GM refuses to repair the defective finish on my truck, their claim is that it only applies to trucks covered under the 3 year -36k warranty. This is a manufacturing defect that they admit to in the attached TSB. There should be a recall mandated for this. We spent a ton of hard earned money on these trucks.

2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD. My dash has started to crack around the passenger airbag and driverside gauge cluster. Dash material is brittle and serves as a hazard should the airbags deploy during an accident.

Backing out of driveway, suddenly lost the transmission. I was stranded at about a 45-degree angle into the traffic lane. I had no gear position indication (an automatic) and couldn't move the truck under it's own power. Shut it off and restarted twice before I got it into "limp-mode" and, while abrupt and harsh, managed to get back into my driveway. Found fault code U0101, Lost Communication with TCM (Transmission Control Module). Had never heard that this has become a common problem. Discovered quickly GM has no parts available, no repairs available, and that it is happening to thousands of GM trucks from model years 2008 to 2015. The truck is useless without this module function. We use this truck to tow a 12000+ lb. travel trailer. I can't imagine how bad this could have been in freeway traffic with such a load. Have been told GM put the part on a national back order in October of 2022, with no estimate of availability. It's now late August of 2023 and still nothing available. Has me concerned that one of these vehicles could stall right in front of me in traffic! I can't afford to replace this vehicle, can't move it, and am relegated to going to work on a motorcycle- in traffic with other GM trucks just waiting to experience this failure. And winter is coming...

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra. The contact stated that while driving at 42 MPH, she was involved in a three-vehicle accident after a vehicle involved in another accident ricocheted and hit her vehicle. The driver's side air bag exploded but did not deploy. Black smoke was released from the steering wheel and the air bag fell on the contact's left leg. The driver seat belt retractor fell apart during the accident which sliced the top part of the contact's ear; in addition, the failure sent a part of the contact's earing into her ear canal. The driver of the vehicle that was originally hit in the accident died the next day in the hospital; another passenger in that same vehicle was critically injured. The contact was treated days later at a hospital for a severe burn to the left leg due to the airbag. Her leg remained infected despite the treatment received at the hospital. 2014 Sierra 2500HD SN ([XXX]) Leaving on vacation towing camper with family Bosch CP4 fuel pump issue left me stranded on a HWY 9 just outside Clinton, AR which is a 2 lane HWY with no shoulder. The vehicle gave me no prior warning, dash board suddenly read power restricted followed immediately with complete power loss as I reached to top of hill. I was forced to steer and brake the truck and camper with no power, down the hill to prevent vehicles from passing at crest of hill. This left me and my family and numerous other drivers in a very dangerous situation as cars tried to pass. I had to open the hood and try to determine what was going on. I directed traffic until a Van Buren County, AR Sherriff’s Deputy arrived scolding me to get the truck and trailer out of the highway. I was forced to unhook trailer in middle of HWY and leave it. All the while, vehicles passing in danger of head on collision because there was only one officer directing both sides of traffic. GM is aware of this issue that cost me $10336 at GM Dealership where repaired. Had I been aware, I would have had this replaced this Bosch CP4 part to prevent the unsafe conditions I encountered. One message came on dash, restricted power, and I was powerless. Final Bill stated “Found Injection pump has come apart internally and has put metal through the system.” Internet search stated: According to InjectorsDirect.com, the 2011-2016 Duramax suffers from a high pressure fuel pump issue unique to this year-range model. Failure of this CP4 pump is usually catastrophic, causing metal particulates to contaminate the entire fuel system. Please help this from happening to another person. These trucks are advertised showing families pulling campers traveling through mountains. That is exactly what my family was doing. I have additional documentation if needed. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

The vehicle experienced a catastrophic failure of the fuel pump while towing a horse trailer on a busy state highway. This was a major safety risk because the vehicle gave no warning before it just stop working. It was a miracle we were able to coast off the highway into a wide spot that was able to accommodate both the truck and the horse trailer. The truck only has 77,000 miles and we are being told that none of the repair is covered under warranty. We were also told that the fuel pump has completely contaminated the entire fuel systems, including the injectors so everything must be replaced. The quote we received from the dealership for this massive repair is $12,208.59. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms occurred until the truck died. Once the truck died, it could not be restarted and then began displaying a code that said the fuel filter needed to be replaced.

THE GEAR SHIFT WENT LOOSE WHEN I STOPPED AND WENT TO PUT IT IN PARK. THEN NO ABILITY TO SHIFT OR RE-START THE TRUCK. THE CABLE BROKE AND I WAS TOLD THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE. MY REPORT SAYS THAT THERE ARE NO UN-REPAIRED RECALLS ON THIS TRUCK. WHY IS THERE NO RECALL ON THIS KNOWN ISSUE?

I OWN A 2014 GMC SIERRA 2500HD. IT IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION AND WELL MAINTAINED WITH LESS THAN 140,000 ON IT. ONE DAY AFTER WORK I GOT INTO MY TRUCK AND AS SOON AS I STARTED IT I HEARD MY DASH CRACK. IT CRACKED JUST TO THE RIGHT OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BY THE DASH VENT AND WINDSHIELD. AND HAS BEEN GROWING EVER SINCE. IF THE DASH IS THIS BRITTLE IN A TRUCK THAT IS ONLY 6 YEARS OLD AND BEEN VERY WELL TAKEN CARE OF IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IF I WERE TO GET INTO A CRASH AND MY AIRBAGS WERE TO DEPLOY, SHARDS OF HARD BRITTLE PLASTIC WOULD BE SENT THROUGH THE CAB POSSIBLY CAUSING MORE INJURIES.

NHTSA ODI 11341723

DASHBOARD CRACKED ADJACENT TO PASSENGER AIRBAG POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE SINCE THERE IS BRITTLE PLASTIC IN THE AREA WHERE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT WOULD TAKE PLACE. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED BEFORE BY ME AND MANY OTHERS AND YET NO ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN BY NHTSA OR GM FOR A REMEDY. I'M SKEPTICAL ABOUT WHETHER IT'S WORTH TAKING THE TIME TO MAKE SUCH REPORTS TO NHTSA WHEN YOUR RESPONSE SOUNDS MORE LIKE IT WAS WRITTEN BY GM CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS RATHER THAN THE PUBLIC SAFETY ADVOCATE YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE. YOU CLAIM THERE IS INSUFFICIENT DATA TO TAKE ACTION. MODEL YEARS AFFECTED ARE FROM 2007 THROUGH 2014 ON NUMEROUS GM NAMEPLATES IE: AVALANCHE, SILVERADO, TAHOE, SUBURBAN, YUKON (XL), SIERRA AND ESCALADE. ERRING ON THE SIDE OF SAFETY SHOULD, AT LEAST, PROMPT AN INVESTIGATION FROM THE DATA ALREADY RECEIVED. IT SHOULD ALSO BE CONSIDERED THAT THIS DESIGN AND ITS IMPLEMENTATION OCCURRED WHEN GM WAS BEING BAILED OUT BY TAX PAYERS AND QUITE A FEW OF THEM ARE NOW LEFT HOLDING THE BAG WHILE THEY ARE POTENTIALLY AT RISK..

I WENT TO OPEN THE ELECTRIC REAR SLIDING WINDOW, AND IT STARTED TO OPEN, THEN IT STOPPED HALFWAY OPEN, WITH A BLACK CABLE HANGING DOWN. MY TRUCK ONLY HAS ABOUT 23,000 MILES ON IT, AND HAVE ONLY OPEN IT LESS THAN 12 TIMES. IT STILL DOESN'T WORK. I TRIED TO COMPLAIN TO GENERAL MOTORS CORP. CUSTOMER SERVICE, WITH THEM TELLING ME THAT IT WOULD COST ME $542.65 WITH GM ASSISTANCE. THIS IS REDICULOUS. IT MUST HAVE BEEN INSTALLED WRONG, OR IT WAS DEFECTIVE. I WAS STOPPED AT MY HOUSE WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I'VE MADE SEVERAL CALLS TO THE CUSTOMER SERVICE, SPEAKING TO SEVERAL REPRESENTATIVES, AND I KEEP GETTING THE SAME ANSWER, THATI WILL NEED TO PAY TO HAVE THE WHOLE WINDOW REPLACED (NOT FIXED). I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE ARE OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE FROM OTHER CUSTOMERS. THE DEALER THAT QUOTED ME THE COST WAS SANBORN CHEVROLET, IN LODI, CA.

DASH IS FULLY CRACKED AT THE CORNER OF THE PASSENGER AIRBAG. IN ADDITION, A CRACK FORMED ABOVE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND CONTINUED TO SPREAD.

NHTSA ODI 11163814

May 4, 2018Airbags

DASHBOARD UNDER FRONT WINDSHIELD PRONE TO CRACKING. INITIALLY THIS WOULD SOUND LIKE IT IS ONLY A COSMETIC ISSUE. THE PROBLEM IS THAT TYPICALLY THE FIRST CRACK OCCURS AT THE FRONT/LEFT CORNER OF THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG PANEL. AS THE VEHICLE AGES UNDER TEMPERATURE FLUCTUATION AND UV EXPOSURE THE INITIAL CRACK WIDENS AND MORE DEVELOP. ALSO, FROM PICTURES TAKEN OF A 2007 GMC YUKON AND 2007 CHEVROLET AVALANCHE THE AIRBAG COMPARTMENT COVER APPEAR TO BE SHIFTING AND LIFTING AS THE CRACKING CONTINUES. THE DEGRADED PLASTIC SURROUNDING THE AIRBAG COVER COULD BE A SHRAPNEL HAZARD TO VEHICLE OCCUPANTS IN SUCH CLOSE PROXIMITY TO AN EXPLOSIVE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. THIS COULD ALSO DIMINISH THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE AIRBAG IF IT IS PUNCTURED. CLEARLY THE MATERIAL AND CONSTRUCTION OF THIS PART WERE NOT MADE TO WITHSTAND THE RIGORS OF THE INSTALLED ENVIRONMENT SO MERELY REPLACING A CRACKED PART WITH THE SAME NEW PART WILL, AT BEST, ONLY BE A TEMPORARY FIX. GM NEEDS TO DESIGN THIS PART PROPERLY SO THAT WILL MAINTAIN IT'S INTEGRITY AS A SURROUND OF THE PASSENGER AIRBAG COMPARTMENT.

MY FUEL PUMP AND INJECTORS FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING, STRANDING MY TRUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC RIGHT WHERE A CITY STREET WAS CHANGING TO A COUNTRY ROAD. THE GMC DEALERSHIP FALSELY CLAIMED THAT THIS WAS CAUSED BY USING UNAPPROVED FUEL. THE FUEL I USED WAS B20 BIODIESEL, WITH 80% RENEWABLE DIESEL, WHICH MEETS DIESEL SPECIFICATIONS AND IS A LEGAL ROAD FUEL IN CALIFORNIA. THEY ALSO CLAIMED THAT A CASCADE OF OTHER PROBLEMS WERE ALL CAUSED BY MY FUEL AND REFUSED TO APPLY MY WARRANTY.
