Received a safety recall and called Greg Lair GMC to schedule repair. Service guy told me the part is backorder. Called first of June and dealer still says part backorder. Letter said the parts were available. Is the dealership just not wanting to comply with this recall?

I received a letter in 2022 regarding an airbag defect in my 2014 GMC Acadia which stated that they would call me when it is my turn to replace it. They airbag light or notification did not appear until 2024 which I called GMC to report it and schedule an service appointment. I was told that there was "NO DEFECT OR RECALL FOR AIRBAGS IN MY MODEL CAR" even after I explained the letter. I was then told I would have to pay 350 for it to be diagnosed then an additional costs for servicing. We continued to drive it as we do not have other options in HI. The airbag service light reappeared on [XXX] for 2 days and we are concerned why, where, how and who will take our complaint/life seriously? I have called GM multiple times and the local dealership. GM Motors has airbags and are currenlty fixing vehicles and has not included my vehicle in any current priority group. The local dealer tried to get my vehicle included in this current round and was denied despite my vehicle being in Louisiana where it is very hot and humid. Both of these are risk factors causing the explosion of the inflator. I am disabled and my family needs my vehicle to take me to appointments because we bring my walker and O2 tank and now I have a $54,000 vehicle that they are all too afraid to drive. My daughter is short and has to sit right at the steering wheel. There are newer vehicles than mine on the priority list. This is ridiculous and dangerous. See priority list below.

I want to register a complaint regarding Safety recall N232404980. I was notified on June 23rd 2023 that my vehicle was included in this recall. It's now more than 1 year later and the recall is still incomplete. I've made several attempts to have the recall addressed including scheduling a service appt on Aug 12th 2024 (at Fox Chevrolet in Caledonia MI). While at this appointment I was told directly that they had the parts but couldn't do the repair because my vehicle status is "Incomplete. Remedy not available". I also contacted GM customer service under their ticket number [XXX]. My understanding is that if the inflator is defective that shrapnel can be thrown in the drivers face in a collision where the airbag deploys. This could cause injury or death. It's not reasonable to expect a safety system to injure you nor is it reasonable to expect someone to park the vehicle for more than a year. GMC should, at a minimum, offer to disable the drivers side airbag until a remedy is available. I realize there are almost 1 million vehicles involved in this recall and in April of 2024 only 3500 vehicles had been remedied. At this rate it will take about 140 years for GMC to address this issue. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

There has been a recall of this part for over a year now, and they still have not fixed it. This could lead to injury and death, and this is ridiculous that it has not been taken care of yet. They have to have airbags available or they would not be able to make new vehicles and sell them. Someone needs to do something about this before more people are killed. I, for one, cannot afford to go out and buy a new car so that I do not drive the one that I have. I am sure that this is the case for many people, and GM has a responsibility to fix this in a timely manner.
