The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked unattended and turned off for a few hours, it caught fire. There were no warning lights illuminated prior to the failure. The fire department extinguished the fire. There were no reported injuries airbag deployment or crash. The vehicle was towed to a police tow lot. A police report was filed. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, who assisted with a claim. The failure mileage was approximately 250,000.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving, the contact noticed a strong unusual odor in the interior of the vehicle. The contact stated that the air conditioner was on, and the odor came through the vents. In addition, the contact stated that he and his minor child developed a headache and became nauseous. Medical attention was not sought as of yet. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not assist. The contact researched and discovered Customer Support Program 19N05, which had a similar failure description. However, the contact was informed that the repair was completed on the contact's vehicle on February 5, 2020. The contact t was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 157,625.

UNKNOWN. My sister had went to town in her car. She had came back home and parked the car in the driveway. After doing so her and her husband we inside, heard a rumbling sound went outside and car was on fire. The neighbors say they saw the car just catch on fire in her driveway. She had purchased the car less than 60 days ago in Manhattan, ks from CSM AUTO.

MY WIFE EXPERIENCE "SPONTANEOUS ACCELERATION" OF OUR FORD EXPLORER. MY WIFE WAS PULLING INTO A WALGREENS PARKING LOT, SLOWED DOWN TO TURN INTO A PARKING SPACE WHEN THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. MY WIFE HAD HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE AS SHE WAS ENTERING THE SPACE, BUT THE BRAKE COULD NOT CONTROL THE CAR. THERE WAS AN EXTREME AND SPONTANEOUS ACCELERATION. ONCE THE CAR HIT THE POLE, IT AUTOMATICALLY SHIFTED INTO REVERSE EVEN WITH MY WIFE APPLYING THE BRAKE. THE CAR CAME TO A STOP AFTER HITTING A PARKED TRUCK. ADDITIONALLY, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS ENOUGH FORCE ON THE FRONT END TO MAKE THE AIRBAGS DEPLOY. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING IN A HIGH TRAFFIC AREA FOR OVER THIRTY MINUTES, THE CONTACT FELT DIZZY AND LIGHT HEADED. THE SYMPTOMS RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WELSH MOTORS FORD (330-549-3925, LOCATED AT 13760 WOODWORTH RD, NEW SPRINGFIELD, OH 44443) WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT'S SYMPTOMS RETURNED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER SEVERAL TIMES. THE DEALER LATER DIAGNOSED THAT THE GASKET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AGAIN, THE CONTACT'S SYMPTOMS RETURNED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT DURING A FOUR HOUR ROAD TRIP, ONE OF HER FAMILY MEMBERS SUFFERED THE SAME SYMPTOMS. NO ONE RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DUCT TAPE ON THE EXHAUST FELL OFF. THE DUCT TAPE WAS REPLACED, BUT THE SYMPTOMS CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE SITUATION AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,700.

MY WIFE AND I TOOK A TRIP FOR A BABY SHOWER, IT WAS ABOUT A 2.5 HR DRIVE. ON THE WAY THERE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON. THERE WERE NO OTHER WARNINGS OR INDICATIONS OF AN ISSUE. WE MADE IT FINE TO OUR DESTINATION, DROVE AROUND TOWN A LITTLE BIT, AND STAYED THE NIGHT. THE NEXT DAY WE HEADED HOME (ANOTHER 2.5 HR TRIP). THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON THE ENTIRE TIME, BUT THERE WERE NO ABNORMAL NOISES OR ODORS, OR ANY OTHER INDICATION THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE. WHEN WE GOT HOME, WE PARKED THE CAR, TURNED IT OFF, UNLOADED, THEN TURNED IT ON TO BACK IT INTO THE GARAGE AND TURN IT OFF AGAIN. AFTER SITTING IN THE GARAGE FOR 10 -15 MINUTES, THE CAR EXPLODED, SHAKING THE HOUSE AND CATCHING THE ENGINE BAY ON FIRE. THE ENGINE BAY WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES, CAUSING FIRE/SMOKE DAMAGE TO OUR GARAGE AND EVERYTHING IN IT. AN INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATOR STATED THAT THE COOLING FAN HAD FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, HOWEVER THAT SEEMS LIKE NOT A SUFFICIENT REASON TO WHY THE ENGINE EXPLODED. WE ARE UNSURE WHAT THE ROOT CAUSE WAS, BUT SOMETHING HAD TO HAVE GONE VERY WRONG FOR THE CAR TO EXPLODE IN THE GARAGE, IGNITION OFF, AND STATIONARY AND THE ONLY INDICATION BEING A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT EVEN IF THE COOLING FAN DID FAIL. THIS ALL HAPPENED JUST OVER A WEEK AFTER AN OIL CHANGE AT A FORD DEALERSHIP. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE VERY LIKELY ENDED UP IN INJURY OR DEATH.

I PURCHASED A NEW 2013 FORD EXPLORER IN PUERTO RICO ON NOVEMBER 2014. SINCE THE FIRST DAY IT LEAKED EXHAUST FUMES INTO THE CABIN WHEN ACCELERATING. AFTER MORE THAN 10 SERVICE VISITS TO THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD BY FORD FIELD SERVICE ENGINEER CARLOS J. DOMINGUEZ "THERE WAS NOTHING MORE THEY COULD DO ABOUT THE PROBLEM BECAUSE IT WAS CAUSED THE VEHICLE'S DESIGN, THE ANGLE AND HEIGHT IT STANDS FROM THE ROAD AND THE VACUUM THAT CAUSED WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED". I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH LYMPHOMA - CANCER A YEAR AND A MONTH AFTER I PURCHASED MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER. I TRADED IT IN FOR A NEW 2016 FORD EXPLORER LAST MAY IN THE HOPE THE NEW MODEL DID NOT HAVE THE SAME ISSUE, BUT IT DOES. AFTER DEALERSHIP CONSULTED FORD, THEY ASKED ME TO BRING THE UNIT IN TO PERFORM THE SAME REMEDIES AS MY PREVIOUS 2013 FORD EXPLORER UNIT. CONSULTED MY ONCOLOGIST AND WE ARE LOOKING INTO THE POSSIBILITY THAT MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER MIGHT HAVE CAUSED MY LYMPHOMA CANCER.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE EVAP PURGE VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,491.
