What 50 owners told NHTSA about the 2012 Land Rover Range Rover Sport (7 Seat)

My 2012 Range Rover HSE Sport, after repeated calls and asking to speak to the appropriate parties about my car, finally got a call and said that the the safety recall was completed to [XXX] and I could pick up my car. He/She said that I would need an engine and I just needed to come in a pick up the keys and car.car was driveable. After the members refused for 30 days not to repair the safety recall, and upon my insistence, "they" said it was complete. The defect was with the manufacturer call to fix my car. The dealership members were very rude and noncompliant. I asked that they would reach out to the manufacturer and my request to the manufacturer was that honor and fix the engine at in good faith and their expense to the dealership.their expense. I have reached out to the manufacturer aa well Jaguar Land Rover North America LLC who has a foreign business in [XXX] and [XXX] and not being transparent with contacts and demands. I have rented a car for almost 3 months and certainly since the Dealership refused for 30 days not to repair my car because of the safety, I feel that those days of extended car rental and the fact the dealership refuse to fix my car, that the dealership should be responsible for the car rental as well. The safety recall is free of charge.I have looked and searched and asked and find that the manufacturer for Range Rover is originated in [XXX] and doing business in [XXX] and [XXX] . Where each State protects consumer with the Lemon Law to some degree . Please advise. I fear that the parties who worked on my car has taken advantage of me. Every part acceptable to the engine failur was replaced with parts for Range Rover dealers and other venue and I had to find a mechanic capable of replacing and diagnosing the issue that still persisted because I was told that the dealership did not service cars under the year 2012. The Jaguar range Rover dealership refused to fix the safety recall on my 2012 Range Rover. My car had been at the dealership JLR Midlothian VA since March 20,2026. They stated that there was no loaner car until April 13, 2026, possibly. Brian was the senior advisor sharing the information. I rented a car from Hertz rental in Fredericksburg VA for the initial date appt of March 13, 2026. I had a family emergency and informed Brian. On April 20, 2026 I visited the dealership to learn the status of fixing the recall issue of of fuel flange to be told by Jeff that Mike the Service Manager refused to correct and replace the safety recall part. BArian who initially did intake on March 13th was not on active duty recall and the case was sent to another advisor Josh, Josh was not in the day of April 20,2026. Josh telephoned me the next day stating the same that my car was not repaired not would it be according to service Manager Mike. They have had my car for 30 days and never told me ethat information before. I have been charged over $800 in rental fees that I had asked the manufacturer/and or dealership since they could not give me a car while my car is in their possession. Please help me I still have this rental car as of April 24, 2026 and on for transportation.. My car was drive able. It was running hot so I had the car towed to the dealership.

The mechanic reported that there were no diagnostic trouble codes retrieved, and that the vehicle failed to remain running. Vehicle: 2012 Range Rover Sport Supercharged (VIN: [XXX] ) Recall Campaign: N623 / NHTSA 21V635 Incident Description: In October 2025 I had a recall repair done at Land Rover Annapolis. I picked up my vehicle from Land Rover Annapolis after the N623 Fuel Outlet Flange Recall was performed. Immediately after service, while driving in a live lane of traffic, the vehicle unexpectedly stalled, resulting in a complete loss of motive power.  The dashboard fuel gauge falsely indicated 55 miles of remaining range, but the vehicle had actually run out of fuel. This indicates that the fuel sending unit/float assembly was improperly reinstalled or damaged during the recall service, creating a secondary safety defect.  I figured it would calibrate and fix itself. When the dealer reached out after my service appointment I made them aware of the issue. No one contacted me. I contacted Land Rover corporate when it continued to happen and was told to bring it back to the certified repair location. The dealership took 16 mins to look at my vehicle and deem the engine bad. Give a ballpark quote of 20000 to 30000 dollars to replace the engine. Despite this life-safety event, the dealership refused to pull stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and is attempting to deflect liability by blaming a pre-existing minor coolant leak that never triggered an overheat warning. I am reporting a failure of the recall remedy and requesting an investigation into the dealership's refusal to diagnose consequential damage (High-Pressure Fuel Pump failure) caused by the botched safety When I brought up the fact that they should have diagnosed the codes already he offered to have them run it for free tomorrow like he was doing me some kind of favor. When I said did I disagreed with the findings based on the fact that there was no evidence of it being the engine overheating due to cool it he replied that maybe I needed a second opinion and it needed to be off of their lot by Friday. I received Land Rover's notice Oct. 7, 2021 regarding the gasoline fuel tank flange assembly cracking. They stated "Once we have adequate supply of the necessary parts, we will notify you via a second letter requesting that you contact your preferred authorized Land Rover retailer....etc.. under Program Code 'N623' " I have still been waiting for this to be resolved. I emailed them again on 12/9/2025 after I got the alert from NHTSA and have not heard back.

In January 2025 I noticed light ticking/knocking at startup, idle, and while driving. On January 23, 2025 I searched online for how to check the oil level and for an L322 dipstick location (there is none). Only after finding a YouTube video with an undocumented override (double-pressing the “Cancel” button) was I able to see the oil level on January 31, 2025, and it showed zero. I added oil immediately, but the knocking gradually worsened over the following months until very loud clattering began on July 4, 2025. The electronic oil level monitoring and warning system failed. When I followed the owner’s manual procedure to check the oil, the display repeatedly showed “Oil Level Not Available” and never gave any low-oil or no-oil warning, even when the actual oil level was zero. Because this system is the only way to check oil level on this vehicle (there is no dipstick), it prevented me from knowing the engine had no oil. The engine then suffered progressive internal bearing/rod damage and now makes extremely loud clattering. The vehicle and components are still in my possession and are available for inspection upon request. The system’s failure meant I unknowingly drove the vehicle with zero oil, which can cause sudden engine failure, loss of power, and possible engine seizure while driving at highway speed. I used this vehicle on Los Angeles freeways, so a sudden loss of power could have led to an accident or left me stranded in a dangerous location. The vehicle now runs with severe clattering and is unsafe to drive, so I have parked it to avoid a complete failure in traffic. The vehicle has been parked since the severe failure on July 4, 2025 because I have not yet been able to afford towing and diagnostic work. There were no low-oil or oil-pressure warning lamps at any time. Prior to the failure, when I tried to check the oil level using the procedure in the owner’s manual, the display repeatedly showed the message “Oil Level Not Available.”

Had a recall. I wasn't available on the date or a week or so after the appointment date. An ex of mine that had no authority to take my Range Rover into the dealership for the recall to get fixed, used my driver's license to get a rental Land Rover to use while my Range Rover was supposedly being fixed for the leaking fuel tank recall. So, Land Rover didn't care that it wasn't me getting to drive a $70,000 Land Rover while mine was getting fixed for recall. I figure out what happened & where my vehicle was & got the rental back to me in order to go get my vehicle back. I got to take it home,2 days later transmission messed up wouldn't shift out of park,started over heating,& I had to pull it with a rope from the store back home to park it. When I looked under the vehicle cause I was trying to figure out why it was majorly overheating, I then realized the gas was just pouring out near the transmission pan, which is where the fuel line runs from the top of the gas tank. My recall was for the fuel tank leaking originally. Now, Land Rover refuses to fix this major safety hazard/defect, stating that the gas pouring out doesn't stem from the recall. Which is complete bullshit! Nothing was wrong with my vehicle when I bought it only a few months before I received the notice about the recall. Now, I can't drive it & it's sitting at the dealership that did the recall & didn't fix it. They towed it 2 days ago to their shop & called me the next day saying that the fuel pouring out & overheating doesn't have anything to do with recall or what they've done. Which is a lie. So, now my car is sitting up at the dealership off of DFW airport & they are expecting me to pay to get it towed back home & that they aren't going to fix my vehicle that they have totally destroyed. I can't get anyone to talk to me or return my calls. I can't get anyone to help me with this. They just hang up or give me a hard time about it & are denying what they have caused for my vehicle. PLEASE HELP ME!

There was an indicating (grinding) noise beneath the vehicle.
