The vehicle failed to start, and the dealer informed the contact that the battery replacement was required prior to a diagnostic test. The contact declined to pay for a new battery. The vehicle was not diagnosed; however, upon inspection, the dealer informed the contact that the recall repair was not applicable due to the installation of an aftermarket alternator. The manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact to not retrieve from the dealer until the issue was resolved. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

IN ADDITION, THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ONLY PART THAT WAS AVAILABLE WAS A RECALLED ALTERNATOR AND THAT THEY NEEDED PERMISSION TO INSTALL THE RECALLED PART. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 17,000.
