I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON OCT 10, 2016, A BIT BEFORE 3:30 PM ON THE BELT PARKWAY IN BROOKLYN NY. I WAS GOING SLOWLY AS THERE WAS HEAVY TRAFFIC. I HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR 90 MINUTES WHEN I TURNED ON THE AC AND IMMEDIATELY NOTICED A STRONG BURNING SMELL, SO I TURNED THE AC OFF. A FEW MOMENTS LATER I NOTICED WISPS OF WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE CAR. BY THE TIME I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER (LESS THAN 2 MINUTES) HEAVIER WHITE THEN GRAY SMOKE BEGAN POURING OUT AND VARIOUS WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON IN THE DASHBOARD. I GOT OUT, GRABBED MY BELONGINGS AND CALLED 911 WITHIN 3 MINUTES OF PULLING OVER. AN OFF DUTY FIREMAN ATTEMPTED TO ASSIST WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER BUT IN MINUTES THE FRONT OF THE CAR WAS ABLAZE. FIREFIGHTERS RESPONDED QUICKLY BUT THE FRONT OF THE CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES AND IT IS A TOTAL LOSS AT 67,000 MILES. IN 4 YEARS OF OWNING THIS CAR I HAD 3 RECALLS (ONE FOR ENGINE FIRE) AND MULTIPLE LETTERS FROM CHEVY OF OTHER ISSUES THAT MIGHT ARISE (THE LAST WAS FOR THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSSIBLY COMING OFF). I'VE NEVER HAD A CAR WITH THIS MANY ISSUES.

I CAN SMELL A BURNING COOLANT TYPE SMELL INSIDE THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME. IT LEAVES A FILM ON THE WINDOWS. WHEN IT HAPPENS IT BURNS MY NOSE AND EYES. I HAVE TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS TO GET FRESH AIR. I CONSIDER THIS A HEALTH ISSUE, INHALING THESE FUMES. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES. ONCE THEY REPLACED A TRANSMISSION COOLANT CONNECTOR, THAT DIDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM, AND TWICE THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND A PROBLEM. I SEE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS. THIS HAPPENS IN ALL SITUATIONS, MOVING OR STANDING STILL. THE FOLLOWING I COPIED FROM A FORUM ONLINE. THIS PERSON HAD THE SAME PROBLEM: IN THE COURSE OF THAT REPAIR THE TECHS DETECTED AN EXTREME AMOUNT OF LUBRICANT ON THE INNER DASH BOX WHERE THE VENT DOORS AND CONTROLS ARE LOCATED. THE TECH REMOVED SOME OF IT AND HEATED IT UP AND IT SMELLED JUST LIKE DEXCOOL. THIS GREASE IS GLYCOL BASED HENCE THE SIMILARITY TO COOLANT WHEN HEATED. THE CONTINUOUS HEATING AND COOLING OF THE GREASE RESULTED IN A BREAKDOWN OF IT AND THE SMELL ONLY GOT WORSE. THE TECHS REMOVED ALL OF THE EXCESS GREASE AND REPLACED WITH ANOTHER LUBRICANT WHICH WAS A TYPE OF BRAKE LUBE GOOD TO 400F. THEY THEN ADDED A PEPPERMINT EXTRACT TO THE COOLANT FLUID TO ENSURE THAT IF THERE WAS A COOLANT LEAK OF ANY KIND THE ODOR WOULD BE IMMEDIATELY DISCERNABLE FROM ANY OTHER AUTOMOTIVE ODOR. I RAN THE HEAT AND DEFROST HEAVY WITH NO ISSUES TO REPORT. THIS FIX IS NOT EASY AS THE ENTIRE DASH NEEDS TO BE REMOVED, BUT A GOOD TECH CAN DO IT AND RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. I VISITED MY CHEVROLET CRUZE 2011 DEALERSHIP AND EXPLAINED THE ODOR THAT WAS COMING FROM MY AIR COOLING SYSTEM. THEY CLEANED MY AIR COOLING SYSTEM AND REPLACED MY CABIN FILTER FEELING THAT THIS MAINTENANCE SOLVED THE ISSUES I WAS HAVING I FELT I COULD USE THE COOLING SYSTEM WITH NO PROBLEM. I WAS WRONG. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM CHEVROLET RECALL DEPARTMENT THAT THE VEHICLE HAS A COOLANT SYSTEM ISSUE WERE COOLANT LEAKS AND THAT WAS THE ODOR. THE COOLANT WAS LEAKING ONTO THE MOTOR AND BURNING OFF RETURNING THE ODOR INTO THE CAB OF THE CAR. I HAD IT TESTED FOR REPAIRS AND HAD A WATER PUMP REPAIRED FOR THE VEHICLE, THIS DID NOT STOP THE PROBLEM, THE HOSE FROM THE MOTOR AND COOLANT RESERVOIR WAS REPLACED, DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND THE LEAKING OF COOLANT CONTINUES. THE RECALL STATED THAT THE ONLY MAINTENANCE FOR THIS PROBLEM IS REFILLING THE RESERVOIR WITH COOLANT INTL THE PROBLEM IS FOUND AND FIXED. I BOUGHT A 2011 CHEVY CRUZE FROM A OWNER, AND I DID NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THE PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE UNTIL AFTER I BOUGHT IT. THE THIN METAL WAS COMING OFF THE HANDLE. I TOUCHED IT AND IT CUT MY FINGER. I CALLED THE CHEVROLET PLACE CLOSE TO MY AREA AND THEY QUOTED ME A PRICE OF $80.00. I CALLED GMC, SINCE THE CAR IS FAIRLY NEW, AND DID NOT GET ANY HELP. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, AND THE OFFICE MANAGER CAME OUT (HE WAS IN A WHEELCHAIR) TO LOOK AT THE DOOR. HE TOUCHED IT AND IT CUT HIS FINGER. I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT SOMEONE GETTING A CUT FROM THAT METAL SO I PAID TO HAVE THE HANDLE REPLACED. MY MAJOR CONCERN IS IF THIS CONTINUES TO HAPPEN WITH THESE DOOR HANDLES IN LESS THAN 3 YEARS OLD, AND SOME ONE IS DIABETIC, OR A SMALL CHILD GETS CUT AND INFECTED IT WOULD NOT BE A GOOD THING. WHEN I SAID THIS TO THE OFFICE MANAGER, HE INFORMED ME HE WAS A DIABETIC. I HAVE WENT ONLINE AND SAW ALL THE RECALLS FOR THIS PARTICULAR CAR. THE PREVIOUS OWNER ASSURED ME HE HAD THE RECALLS FIXED, BUT I DID NOT REALIZE THERE WERE SO MANY UNTIL AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR. I PAID CASH FOR THIS CAR AND HAVE YET TO GET A TITLE. I CONTINUE TO CALL THE OWNER WHO EITHER IGNORES ME OR ISN'T GETTING MY CALL. I CALLED HIS WIFE YESTERDAY AND SHE ASSURED ME HER HUSBAND HAD THE TITLE. I HAD RECENTLY CALLED THE PREVIOUS OWNER AND ASK FOR PAPERWORK WHERE THE RECALL WORK WAS DONE. I HAVE HAD NO RETURN CALLS... AT THIS POINT WHAT SHOULD I DO? I FEEL LIKE I'VE BEEN SHAFTED, BUT I PAID 13000.00 FOR THE CAR AND THE PREVIOUS OWNER ASSURED ME I WOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY ADVELORUM TAXES, HE SAID THIS WAS TAKEN CARE OF. NOW ACCORDING TO THE TAG OFFICE I WILL HAVE TO PAY ANOTHER 800.00 OR SO FOR THE TAG WHICH I CAN'T GET WITHOUT A TITLE. *TR

VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT SLOW SPEED COMING UP TO A LIGHT WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, AND THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO THE BRAKES RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT WITH TWO OTHER CARS. THERE WAS DAMAGE DONE TO THE CAR IN FRONT DUE TO THE COLLISION. WE TOOK THE CAR IN FOR A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE BRAKES. THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE PRESSURE SWITCH AND THAT HAS FIXED THE PROBLEM. WE NOTICED FROM THE VERY BEGINNING, THAT AT SLOW SPEEDS, IT REQUIRED WAY TOO MUCH PEDAL TO STOP THE CAR. THERE IS A THIRD PARTY INVOLVED IN THE WRECK WHO MAY SEEK BODY INJURY. *JS

THE FRONT CHROME INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ON MY 2011 CHEVY CRUZE THAT I PURCHASED IS PEELING OFF. THE EDGES OF THE CHROME ARE EXTREMELY SHARP. BOTH MY WIFE AND I HAVE CUT OUR FINGERS ON BOTH FRONT DOOR HANDLES WHILE EXITING THE VEHICLE. IT IS NO PAPER CUT EITHER. PRETTY DEEP AND PAINFUL. I ENDED UP PLACING TAPE AROUND THE HANDLES AS A QUICK FIX FROM BEING CUT. WHEN I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE $150 FOR A NEW HANDLE AND THAT IT DID NOT INCLUDE INSTILLATION. AFTER READING NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE AND OBSERVING A COPY OF A LETTER FROM CHEVROLET ADMITTING THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE HANDLES, I WONDER WHY THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL AS OF YET ON THIS ISSUE. *TR

I HAD COME FROM A RED LIGHT THAT TURNED GREEN, AND AS I APPROACHED THE NEXT RED LIGHT, IT HAD TURNED GREEN BEFORE I GOT THERE. I WAS COASTING IN SLOWLY AS THE VEHICLES THAT WERE ALREADY WAITING AT THAT LIGHT WERE STARTING TO MOVE FORWARD. THOUGH THE LIGHT WAS GREEN, THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME HAD STOPPED RIGHT AS HE GOT TO THE INTERSECTION - HE WAS PROACTIVE IN STOPPING FOR AN AMBULANCE THAT WAS LEAVING THE STATION AT THE CORNER (IT WAS NOT ON THE STREET YET AND NO SIRENS.) I WENT TO SLOW DOWN BEFORE REALIZING HE WAS ACTUALLY STOPPED (AT THAT MOMENT, WAS UNAWARE OF AN AMBULANCE.) WHEN I REALIZED HE WAS ACTUALLY STOPPED, I STILL HAD PLENTY OF TIME TO STOP THE DISTANCE I WAS FROM HIS CAR AHEAD OF ME, BUT MY CAR WOULD NOT STOP! THE CAR SLOWED DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY, HOWEVER, IT WOULD NOT STOP. IT JUST KEPT ROLLING FORWARD AT A VERY SLOW PACE. I REMEMBER PRESSING THE BRAKE HARDER, AND THE ABS KICKED IN, AND I HEARD THE "CRUNCH" SOUND 3 TIMES, EVEN THOUGH THE GROUND WAS DRY, AT THE TIME I DID NOT KNOW WHY, I THOUGHT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE ABS, BUT THE CAR NEVER STOPPED. ALL I COULD DO WAS WATCH IN VERY SLOW MOTION AS MY CAR CONTINUED TO PULL FORWARD AND I EVENTUALLY DRIFTED INTO THE REAR OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. IT WAS A VERY SLOW-MOVING INCIDENT BUT I FELT TOTALLY HELPLESS AS THE CAR CONTINUED TO ROLL. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO HIS VEHICLE, ONLY TO MINE. I WAS UPSET BC I KEPT REPLAYING THE INCIDENT IN MY MIND: WHY DIDN'T MY CAR STOP? WHY DID IT FEEL LIKE IT WAS BEING PULLED FORWARD? I HAD MY CAR REPAIRED AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES OR TIRES OR FLUID. A FEW MONTHS LATER, I REC'D THE 12213 ELECTRIC VACUUM PUMP AND FOUND THE DESCRIPTION MATCHED MY EXPERIENCE. I WANT CHEVROLET TO REFUND ME AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND CLEAR THIS ACCIDENT AS MY FAULT. I AM ALSO MAKING A COMPLAINT TO CHEVROLET. *TR

ABOUT 4 PM ON 8/31/13:PULLING INTO PARKING SPACE IN FRONT OF SANDWICH SHOP AND HAIR SALON. NORMAL BRAKE PRESSURE APPLIED BUT VEHICLE DID NOT STOP, THEN BOTH FEET PRESSED ON BRAKE, BUT CARS MOMENTUM CAUSED IT TO JUMP THE CEMENT PARKING BLOCK. TO AVOID CRASHING THROUGH SALONS GLASS FRONT, STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED SHARPLY TO THE RIGHT AND CAR CRASHED INTO, AND CAME TO A STOP AT BUILDINGS OUTSIDE SUPPORTING STRUCTURE. IN SO DOING, A CAR PARKED IN THE SPACE TO THE RIGHT, SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO DRIVERS SIDE- FRONT BUMPER. CHEVY CRUZE SUSTAINED CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE TO RIGHT SIDE DOOR PANELS AND RIGHT-FRONT BUMPER. *TR
