The vehicle was completely stationary at a red light when the rear windshield suddenly and spontaneously exploded with a loud gunshot-like sound. There was no road debris, no preceding or surrounding vehicles, and absolutely no external impact. The Nissan dealership wrongfully refused to cover this under the new vehicle limited warranty, claiming it was external damage, despite the lack of any impact point. Due to safety urgency, I had to replace the glass through a third-party shop via my auto insurance. This is a severe product quality and safety defect regarding the rear defroster and tempered glass, which is already subject to federal class-action lawsuits for Nissan Rogues. The glass shards could have caused severe injuries.

The back window shattered. I could not find an impact spot, nor was there any weather that would have caused the window to shatter.

The contact owns a 2026 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that after loading items into the vehicle through the front passenger’s side, the door was closed, and the contact heard a loud sound of a glass shattering. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the contact discovered that the rear glass had shattered. The contact immediately called the dealer, and was referred to the Collision Center, which could temporarily tape the glass until the glass was replaced. The contact stated that after the glass was taped with plastic, the plastic popped out after closing the doors. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic, where the window was replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 800.

On Friday 01/02/2026 in my driveway, when closing my driver side front door of my 2026 Nissan Rogue purchased in mid-December, I suddenly heard a loud pop followed by crashing like breaking glass sound. I look around and the back rear windshield had a huge hole in the center with glass falling into the car trunk. I contacted my dealership and there were no active recalls, but searching online did fine other drivers reporting this issue on social media. I plan to have the dealership inspect the damage this week and see if it is related to other active recalls for other models.
