Incident details: While driving under winter road conditions, the vehicle experienced a brief slide. During this slide, the vehicle lightly scrapped a curb, leaving a minor mark on the wheel. Despite this, the airbags deployed unexpectedly. There was no collision, no rollover, and no other object was struck, and there is no visible exterior damage to the vehicle. ________________________________________ What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The suspected malfunction involves the airbag system, potentially including the airbag control module (ACM), crash sensors, or the electronic stability control (ESC) system. The airbags deployed without a qualifying collision or impact. The vehicle is being preserved and has not been repaired, and it is available for inspection upon request, with event data recorder (EDR) data preserved and available for retrieval.________________________________________ ________________________________________ Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No. A Mazda-authorized dealer (Mazda of Salem, Oregon) declined to accept the vehicle, stating that they do not perform post–airbag deployment investigations. As a result, the issue has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. I contacted Mazda of Hillsboro (Oregon), and the service center manager contacted the Mazda Experience Center on my behalf under case number 00404588. I was informed that the Mazda Experience Center advised them that the case would be closed with no further investigation.
