Front brakes were worn prematurely and rotors had to be resurfaced multiple times under warranty and once more after warranty. Premature wear would cause shaking in the steering wheel when medium to heavy braking force was applied.

I was driving toward the perimeter of my neighborhood, approaching an arterial cross street. When I braked the pedal went straight to the floor. The breaks didn’t work despite pumping them multiple times. I also heard the engine revving. To avoid the intersection and busy street I steered into a yard, hit a retaining wall and a tree, rolled and hit a metal city street sign. All airbags deployed. I was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The car was totaled and is on a temporary hold at a salvage yard.

My car suddenly shook violently while at complete stop at a stop light. Also, the brake feels weird at times when slowing down.

When making a left or right turn in this vehicle, there is a distinct knocking or clicking sound coming from under the drivers foot area. Dealer reviewed CV axel and suspension and says everything looks fine. However, I have driven enough cars to know that a persistent knocking sound while turning is not normal. This appears to be an issue with multiple 2024 Grand Highlander owners.

While slowing to a stop on a slight incline (an interstate off-ramp), when almost stopped, the car started bucking as if the brake pedal was being slammed on, then released, slammed on again, then released, and repeated for maybe 2 seconds. I quickly hit the "P" (Park) button to take it out of gear and it stopped. No warning lights or anything came on and it drove perfectly fine afterwards. It felt just like the emergency braking and the car thinks you're going to hit something. It was very strong and jarring. Happened a 2nd time on April 4 in the same circumstances - driving downhill on a highway off-ramp and stopping at red light at the end of the ramp.

Since December 18, 2024 I have had this happen 5 times. I come to a complete stop and have my foot on the brake. The car will then hop four-five times (like the sensation of shifting in manual with a cluch and you don’t shift correctly and the car will hop). I am not sure why this is happening. I took it to the dealer and they haven’t experienced the issue. This doesn’t happen at every full stop either.

How to use these: a complaint is one owner’s report, filed voluntarily and published unverified. Patterns matter more than any single story. If several owners describe the same failure at similar mileage, put that system at the top of your pre-purchase inspection list. Back to the full 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander verdict →
