Over my time owning this vehicle i have had several different safety concerns. although they have been resolved by the dealer, i have concerns for anyone purchasing this make and model. 1. lane departure. i have turned off lane detection because i have had the car try to auto correct and jerk me to the left into oncoming traffic 2. i have had incidents where the driver door was unable to be opened from inside. i had to roll down the window to open the door and get out 3. At a speed of 45mph, the vehicle suddenly went into limp mode. the car turned off and luckily i was able to pull over into a safe area. again i experienced the door locking from the inside. all issues and solutions have been documented at dealer services. these issues are of great concern and potentially could have been harmful or fatal. i no longer have trust in this model or company.

On May 2, 2026, I took my 2024 Mazda CX‑90 to Mazda of Orange because the steering wheel was getting stuck and there was a loud chirping noise when turning the car on and off. The dealership kept my car for 28 days. When I picked it up, they told me the noise was fixed. After three days, the noise returned. The next morning, the car would not start, so I had to jump it and take it back. They said it was the brake assembly line and claimed it was safe to drive when it wasn’t. They also said the bottom battery was giving errors. I had already replaced the top battery in April 2026 for $300, and they replaced the bottom one under warranty. When I brought it in, all dashboard warning lights were on, and the car warned me not to drive over 30 mph. They replaced the battery again but could not explain the warning lights. This was my sixth visit, and they kept blaming rain or fog even when the weather was clear. Two weeks after getting the car back, all warning lights came on again on [XXX]. At [XXX], while taking my husband to the airport, I was afraid to turn the car off. I hit a bump, the lights turned off, then came back on — which makes me think there is an electrical short. Now the transmission jerks hard, especially when the i‑Stop activates. I bought the car in April 2025; it has 47,700 miles, and I have taken it in six times. [XXX] from the mediation department told me he would start a buyback on June 20, 2026, but he is now ignoring my calls. The vehicle started to hydroplane in rain on the highway and the lane keeping assist aggressively tried to push me back, which ended up causing us to hydroplane more and causing the vehicle to flip around backwards and we ended up sliding completely off the highway into a ditch totaling the vehicle.

There is a recurrent steering wheel issue. The issue was first addressed during the national recall campaign 6524A / NHTSA 24V-022 where it received the recall repair. The exact same dangerous issue has returned. The issue currently, is best described as having to wrestle with the steering wheel at all speeds when minor corrections are needed. That is, the steering becomes binding, catching, and creating a ratcheting sensation in both low speed maneuvers and at minor corrections during highway driving. This constant position "sticking" of the steering wheel requires me to physically pull and jerk the wheel to break it free from its position; hence the "wrestling" analogy. The vehicle was not received immediately at the dealership due to "work backlog". It is pending current review of the recurence of this symptoms.

Hybrid battery failed causing electrical issues. - Fix in October 2024. During this time Service repair for the recall related to the power steering. Car became jerky and would lose the ability to hold turns. Took to mazda and told there was a gear housing need to be replaced. Was quoted at 4000 for the repair due to car having 49000. Mazda customer service stepped in and dropped the price in half. Eventually cover the majority of the cost as we reported this as a safety issue and it only camp up after the recall was performed for the power steering and the suspension was fixed. In the service report, Technician stated that the steering has fuse to the sway bar. I am now very concerned the sway bar is unsafe. Mazda did not comment on this when I ask. It appears as the fix one thing more continue to break. with The issues the lane assist continues to have issues seems to struggle with alignment issues. Car was with Mazda for 7 weeks during the 1st year of owning it. I am also concerned with some of the finding as I look at them with details pertaining to original purchase and miles being reported on our documents. Living in Kentucky the Lemon law does help with providing any sort of real action plans on CPO. Break have been squeaky causing uneven feedback. This issue has worsened over time. Car was purchased CPO - in April of 2025.

At highway speeds, even with lane keeping assist disabled/turned off, if the ADAS is turned on LKA seems to remain active. Steering effort is unpredictable making it difficult to maintain a line through the corner. Effort will suddenly decrease resulting in oversteer. This is particularly dangerous when next to other cars, guardrails, barriers and the like. The behavior is greatly reduced with all ADAS off. This is largely repeatable over the last 18 mos/24,000 miles.

I am reporting a serious steering safety issue. I was told a steering recall had already been fixed before purchase. About four months later, the steering wheel began locking or strongly resisting movement while driving on curvy roads at speeds over 50 mph. When this happens, the wheel does not return to center and requires force to correct, creating a loss of steering control. I took the vehicle to Passport Mazda in Maryland on January 2, 2026. The dealer stated the entire steering wheel panel needs replacement and the part is backordered until March 2026. This is a dangerous defect in a recently recalled system and needs investigation.

There is a potential safety risk with the 2024 Mazda CX-90 power steering/lane keep assist. When traveling at moderate speeds steering left into a turn the vehicle jerks to the right. I do not believe this is a direct problem with the lane keep assist as the problem only occurs when in the center of the travel lane and not while on the edge of the road. Lane keep assist works as intended when on the edge of the road or on the center stripped line as I feel a gentle assist again as intended. The hard pulling to the right problem only occurs when steering left into a turn. There are no warning lights on the instrument cluster. The authorized dealer has not been able to reproduce the issue. The issue has been ongoing for at least the past six months.

1. Gear Shift Issue in EV Mode: The transition from 1st to 2nd gear is not shifting properly in EV mode. At times, the gear jerks during critical situations, which compromises control. 2. Power Output on Highway: While driving on the highway, there are instances where there is no power output when flooring the accelerator to overtake. 3. Engine Malfunction Light: The engine malfunction light has come on and off three times. 4. Radar Malfunction: The radar system is intermittently not working or working improperly. The radar malfunction light also came on and off once (i-ACTIVSENSE system malfunction). The last safety recall was completed a few weeks ago, but the issues are still ongoing. Since then, I have visited the Mazda dealership twice, but they let me go, dismissing my claims and saying they couldn’t duplicate the problems. I have a case with Mazda corporation. Nothing done yet (Case Number: [XXX]). The name of the Representative is Candy. I would appreciate it if you could investigate these issues at the earliest convenience. steering wheel locks into the direction of turning (sometimes more than needed for the corner) and causes over-steering at all speed (from 20mph to 45mph). at low speed the steering can be forced to turn back, but at higher speed such as onramp or offramp, after fighting the oversteering, the steering disengages for a brief second while fighting oversteering which I think can/will cause inexperience driver to turn the steering wheel too much in the opposite direction. also the lane departure/centering feature also causes the steering wheel to jiggle while driving straight (incorrectly trying to move the car while going stright). this is going to cause accident.

with lane-keep assist /lane-centering enabled, the steering will try to straighten the car while turning. experienced this during on-ramp and off-ramp of highway. this is super dangerous. even experienced it at low speed in the neighborhood. steering wheel will fight me during turn and disengage for brief second - this is very disconcerting while making a turn. even with lane-keep assist disabled, I can still feel the wheel (very minor feedback) trying to change course while turning. this issue began immediately after dealer performed all active recalls.

The lane assist safety feature stops working. The car will allow drifting across well-marked lanes, despite being a clean car and a clear weather day. The car will not attempt to keep the car in the lane. The events are unpredictable. I have checked the settings when it has happened and they all appear to be the same - the lane assist and related boxes remain checked, etc. After turning off the vehicle for an hour or two, the system seems to reset and work again. This has happened twice that I know if, but could have happened at other times that I did not notice.

Passenger side, side view mirror will intermittently turn all the way in and down. This makes it impossible to see traffic on your side. Once it turns in, it is stuck and you need to get out of the car to physical move it so the motor will adjust it again. This can happen at anytime and has happen at least 10 times since we've purchased the car on 12/29/2023

Cruise control safety concern: car detects vehicle in front when there isn't and brakes sometimes hard abruptly due to misdetecting a vehicle ahead in a different lane as is it was in the car's same lane specially in curves or if the vehicle ahead but in a different lane is casting a shadow in front of car. Blind spot: blind spot detects a vehicle in the blind spot even when there's no vehicle. Noticed that car sometimes detects vehicles on an opposite direction road as if they're in the blind spot and it can set off the blind spot monitor.

This vehicle at highway speeds will suddenly brake when intuitive cruise control is engaged. It mainly does this when the hwy is not straight and there is a vehicle ahead in a different lane or if there is a concrete median on either side. It’s not safe to be going 70-78mph and have your vehicle brake and bring speed down to 50-60. I’ve had intuitive cruise control on 3 other vehicles and none of them did this. Vehicles following become upset when vehicle brakes with no vehicle ahead of us. Also, it’s a danger of being rear ended or causing a road range incident when someone behind you thinks you are brake checking them.

How to use these: a complaint is one owner’s report, filed voluntarily and published unverified. Patterns matter more than any single story. If several owners describe the same failure at similar mileage, put that system at the top of your pre-purchase inspection list. Back to the full 2024 Mazda Cx-90-phev verdict →
