The steering rack is the component that has failed. On multiple occasions while I am driving on the freeway the steering will randomly pull in the opposite direction of the turn that I am on. Or if it the pavement is uneven it will hit the bump and stick and get harder to steer or pull one way or the other. I have been in 3 near accidents at freeway speeds. I have taken it to the dealer and they say they can not replicate it so they are not fixing it or addressing my concerns. There are no warning lights and no warning when it is going to happen so I have to grip the steering wheel tightly with both hands to prevent from being pulled or pushed into and accident. It has already been recalled once for this same behaviour.

I am writing to formally report a serious safety defect regarding the steering system of my 2024 Mazda CX-90. While driving at various speeds, the steering wheel frequently exhibits a "sticking" or "binding" sensation. In several instances, the steering wheel has become momentarily stuck in a fixed position, requiring significant physical force to "break it loose" and regain control of the vehicle's direction. Safety Risk: This condition is unpredictable and creates a hazardous driving environment. The sudden resistance and the excessive effort needed to maneuver the vehicle pose a high risk of over-correction, which could lead to a lane departure or a collision. This mechanical failure compromises the fundamental ability to steer the vehicle safely. Request: I am submitting this report to ensure this issue is documented for safety investigations and to urge a review of potential defects in the steering rack or electronic power steering (EPS) calibration for this model.

Since about 9 months ago, the steering wheel has been “pulling/tugging” when driving on a curb, even the slightest curb, specially when over 50mph. No warnings lights on, vehicle has has an alignment in the last year. And it is not a “line assist” problem. I turned that off for a while be sure. Vehicle was inspected by an authorized Mazda service provider, and they suggest changing the steering train to fix the issue. I particularly remember this issue came up after hybrid battery was replaced. Not sure if related or not. It is a huge safety issue, as when driving at high speed it is very hard to manage.

I have a 2024 Mazda CX-90. I want to report that about two years ago I was contacted regarding a recall (or possibly multiple recalls). The steering would become stiff while turning on curves. I took the vehicle to the dealer, and they reprogrammed something, which fixed the issue for a few months (I don’t remember exactly how long). However, the same problem happened again about three times. I brought the vehicle back to the dealer on January 23, 2026, and they did not have the necessary parts to repair it. I told them I was very afraid to drive the vehicle in that condition because the steering would get stuck when turning on curves, and I was worried that one day it could cause a serious or even fatal accident. The dealer told me they could not do anything at that time. It took 65 days for them to replace the parts, and it was very stressful driving under those conditions. Even after the repair, the vehicle does not feel right. I feel that the steering still moves abnormally, and I am very afraid to drive it like this. Additionally, the brakes sometimes make a strange noise. I don’t know what to do about this situation. I would like to return the vehicle, but I don’t know how, especially since the dealer is no longer responsible. I need help. While making sweeping turns, but predominantly left-hand turns, the steering wheel will get momentarily stuck in a turning position. Sometimes it is more difficult to get the wheels to straighten out than other times. Also, it normally only happens at higher rates of speed, more than 30mph. The steering getting "stuck" in a turning position, especially at elevated speeds, poses serious risks of getting in an accident. Especially if it were to happen into oncoming traffic on a 2-lane highway or something similar.

My vehicle has had the steering recall performed. However I have an issue where the steering is becoming very sticky, mostly when turning left. For example on an interstate clover leaf where steering angle is held constant for a short period of time, the steering feels stuck and requires extra effort to overcome that stuck point. It's alarming. This appears to be getting worse over the past few months.

The vehicle is experiencing intermittent steering “sticking”, most noticeable during normal highway driving and minor steering corrections. The steering wheel does not always return smoothly and instead feels resistant before releasing. This condition is unexpected, repeatable, and presents a safety risk, particularly during normal lane-keeping. Especially happens during left turns or keeping in lane while going through sight left curves. Very noticiable when going through traffic circles.

The steering wheel becomes sticky when turning at highway speeds and around 30 MPH. This problem happens consistently when turning at certain speed. Lot of extra effort needs to be applied to bring the sticky steering wheel back to the original position. This extra effort makes the turning very dangerous as the sticky steering wheel doesn't smoothly reverts back to normal position. Any extra effort applied to bring the steering back to the normal position results in a jerky, sudden, and rash movement of the vehicle. Without the conscious application of this unnatural and abnormal extra effort, the vehicle is more prone to accidents during turning particularly at highway speed. Contacted the nearest local dealer. Local dealer outright refuses to diagnose the problem without charging the fee even though car is well under warranty. Please take action so that this safety issue can be corrected. Also, Mazda needs to improve customer service by informing the dealer(s) not to refuse a basic safety related diagnostic unless a hefty diagnostic fee is paid by the the owner of the new vehicle.

My vehicle has already had recall remedy for 24V-022, still experiencing "notchy" steering (momentary increase in steering effort). Mid corner the steering wheel locks into place, I can let my hands off the wheel and the steering wheel maintains the steering angle, I have to forcibly move it out of the lock to either increase or decrease turning radius. This is a recurring issue every time I drive the vehicle.

While driving the 2024 Mazda CX-90 and making turns the steering wheel become difficult to straighten/reduce deflection from the turned position. This has caused the vehicle to depart from our lane in traffic on the freeway multiple times. This has caused safety risk for ourselves with traffic barriers as well as with vehicles in other lanes. It is possible to over power the “sticking point” however it seems to be getting worse. A mazda service center has been contacted and they denied that they are required to remedy this because they already completed the recall for this issue in the past. The vehicle is available for inspection. The issues seems to be somewhere in the steering linkage or steering wheel mechanism based on the feel of the issues.

According to your recall that states: Recall date 2024-01-17 Recall no. 24V022000 Mazda North America Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain 2024 CX-90 vehicles. An assembly issue with the worm gear in the steering system may result in a sudden loss of power steering assist. Recall consequence Loss of power steering assist while driving increases the risk of a crash. My car is not included in this recall according to my VIN number, however my car is doing the same thing described above in the recall. I am requesting that ALL Mazda CX 90 vehicles be in this recall. I took it to the dealership and although there hasn’t been a serious injury yet, there absolutely could be if it is not fixed.

Description of the issue: While driving, the steering wheel suddenly develops a significantly increased resistance. This resistance can only be overcome by applying noticeably higher force. The steering feels as if it is “sticking” or momentarily binding. Driving conditions where the issue occurs: - Frequently on highways - Also on rural roads - Occurs both while cornering and while driving straight ahead

Purchased the Mazda Cx-90 2024 and was told that all recalls had been cleared and completed. Steering recall for worm gear and grease had been cleared. Not consistent but when taking turns will have a sudden jerk and increase in steering, especially with left turns. called and reported to Mazda dealership and told by mechanic that this needed to be reported due to an undergoing investigation on recalls that were not truly resolved by Mazda. The vehicle was cleared of inspection in 2024 prior to our purchase. No wrecks but concerned this could lead to one.
