This is the second time the ICCU failed. The car is waiting for a full EV battery replacement. The first time the failure happened on 12/11/25, at 9,165 miles, the alert happened just before the car came to a full stop as we were driving along the road near our house, it was very difficult to steer, we were sort of stopped in the road and had to get it towed. The second time the alert came on 4/16/26 and we were able to get it to the dealer.

While driving northbound on US-280 freeway, the vehicle experienced sudden deceleration with maximum speed limited to approximately 40 mph. The dashboard displayed a "Check Power Supply" warning. The vehicle required a tow to the dealership. Dealer diagnosis indicates likely ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) failure. This is a known issue affecting multiple Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicles, with numerous consumer reports of the same failure mode. The sudden loss of propulsion at highway speed created a significant safety hazard though we were able to make it off the freeway with hazards on. However shortly after exiting the vehicle further slowed and eventually died on the side of the road as did the hazard signals.

The vehicle is less than 1 years old. Had 91% charge left. Turned in the car as usual. Turned in heated seats and heated steering wheel as the outside temp was 34 degrees. A pop noise occurred and my entire dashboard flashed like a Christmas tree saying electrical system failure. Pull over safety. The cars speed was reduced to 20 mph. This was extremely scary as this happened on a main road where the speed limit was 55. The ICCU failed according to the dealer. This has been a common issue among Ioniq5 cars and the manufacturer has failed to fixed this issue. This car presents a high failure rate of the ICCU computer that controls the entire car. Once this chip fails, the car can not be driven and it must be towed back to the dealership. This is not a one off. Hyundai also quietly remove the remote start feature to activate the heated seats. They must know that turning on the heated seats might trigger an overload causing possible risk of iccu failure.

The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failed while I was driving to work. I was on the highway in the middle of a blizzard and the "Check Electric Vehicle Systems" warning popped up on my dash. It then when into a turtle mode and my car would no longer go above 15 - 20 mph. I had to exit the freeway very abruptly because my speed was dropping quickly. It was already extremely dangerous driving that day, this just added on top of it. It is available for inspection, it's been sitting at my dealership since March 6th because the ICCU is back ordered and there is no ETA when one will become available. The dealership has inspected and confirmed it is a faulty ICCU. There were no other problems with the car until the warning appeared on the dash. The ICCU has had 3 manufacturer recalls for the ICCU previously. Which I have gone in to the dealership for.

ICCU failed while driving. Causing the car to dangerously decelerate with little to no warning. The car then bricked itself on the side of the road. Diagnoses is a failed ICCU. This failure was insanely dangerous as the car lost all power and would not accelerate.

On March 22, 2025, our 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 suffered a sudden, complete loss of power while driving at night, after receiving Hyundai’s recall service in January. While driving on city roads, the car displayed “Check Battery” errors despite the main EV battery showing ~75% charge. After stopping, we had AAA install a new 12V battery, which did not resolve the issue. Minutes later, while crossing a Y-shaped highway interchange, the car lost the ability to accelerate, leaving us stranded in a dangerous area. Hyundai Roadside Assistance gave an 89-minute ETA and failed to dispatch a tow capable of transporting our family of three. We were forced to call our insurance to tow the vehicle to safety. The car is now inoperable at a dealership. Hyundai has not followed up. This is a major safety concern — involving either the 12V system or software post-recall — and could impact other vehicles. 1. Uncertain which part failed. 2. safety was put at risk due to car not able to accelerate. Car would not go over 20 miles an hour on the interstate access road where traffic was going by at 50 –60 mph - four-way flashers were on and had to pull off at the first available turn but it was scary 3. Contacted local Hyundai; they are investigating a possible loaner, but haven’t said what they will do. 4. No inspections yet. 5. No warning or unusual events prior to lack of power/lack of acceleration. 6. Internet search showed that this problem has occurred to others.
