I was driving at normal highway speed. I exited the highway and started to deceleration for an upcoming traffic light. The engine started making a lot of noise. The 6.2L engine has 31k miles on it. Oil changes have been completed at the dealership where I purchased the sierra Denali. I called the dealership and the service writer could hear the engine noise. He asked if I could get it to the dealership which was about 15 miles away. I tried but the truck stopped about 7 miles from the dealership. They told me to call the onstar service and get a tow. The dealership said it will take about six weeks to get a new engine. In the meantime I'm making payments on an eighty thousand dollar vehicle I can't use. Someone needs to hold GM accountable for the lack of urgency in getting this problem fixed!

The vehicle suffers from a persistent transmission defect including shuttering bucking slipping torque converter failure valve body failure twice metal debris improper down shifting chirping noises and related liability and safety issues. The vehicle has undergone multiple unsuccessful repair attempts at authorise GM dealerships. These repairs include torque converter replacement valve body replacement twice solenoid replacement fluid services software updates. The transmission problems have persisted despite these efforts and the vehicle has been out of service for more than 22 business days including a breakdown driving to Florida. I have filed a claim through GM but it seems like it just keeps getting pushed further and further away this is a serious safety issue as I fear for those driving around me and myself that I may cause an accident with the bucking slipping and failure to operate properly on the road.

This vehicle became subject to a manufacturer safety recall requiring complete engine replacement. The engine failure has been confirmed by an authorized GMC dealer, and the vehicle has remained out of service for more than one month while awaiting the recall remedy. The dealer has advised that the repair has been escalated through GM's SPAC (Service Parts Assistance Center) process because a replacement engine is not available. General Motors has also confirmed there is currently no estimated delivery date or estimated completion date for the repair. As a result, the recall remedy is effectively unavailable, and the vehicle remains unusable for an indefinite period. Although a temporary loaner vehicle has been provided, it is not functionally comparable to the recalled vehicle and does not provide the towing capability and utility required for its intended use. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized GMC dealer, who confirmed that engine replacement under the recall is required. The vehicle remains available for inspection. My concern is not only the original safety defect but also the inability to obtain the recall remedy within a reasonable timeframe. There has been no estimate of when replacement engines will become available, leaving the vehicle out of service indefinitely. I am submitting this complaint to document the delay in completing the safety recall and to request that NHTSA review whether the recall remedy is being provided in a timely and effective manner.

My 2024 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate 1500 experienced a catastrophic powertrain failure that created a serious safety hazard. On XXX, while driving at highway speeds, the truck unexpectedly shifted into neutral, causing an immediate loss of propulsion. During this event, the electrical system was also affected. The battery power dropped, power steering assistance was lost, and due to the electronic push-button start system, the vehicle could not be restarted while in this condition. This placed me and surrounding motorists at significant risk of a crash. I initially brought the vehicle to Point GMC, where I was advised no issue was found. After the problem continued, I returned on XXX and a dealership technician rode with me. During the test drive on [XXX], the truck again shifted into neutral, confirming the defect. The vehicle was then towed to the dealership, where diagnostics revealed DTC P0016. I was informed the engine had seized and required a complete engine replacement. The engine was replaced by an authorized GMC dealership in New Jersey. After only about 2,000 miles, the check engine light returned and the vehicle began experiencing additional electrical issues. This is a Denali Ultimate, the highest trim level, with advanced electronic systems, making these recurring failures especially concerning. To date, the vehicle has been inspected by three authorized GMC dealerships, and I have opened multiple cases with GMC Corporate. Despite repeated repair attempts, the manufacturer has not provided a permanent resolution. I continue to experience recurring engine and electrical issues and no longer have confidence in the safety or reliability of this vehicle. Given the repeated failures, loss of propulsion, loss of steering assistance, inability to restart the vehicle, and lack of resolution after multiple dealership visits and an engine replacement, I believe this matter warrants investigation by NHTSA. My truck engine has failed due to metal shavings in the oil related to the L87 engine recall, and the failure occurred after GM had replaced the truck’s oil as part of the recall remedy. The recall remedy did not prevent the failure of the engine.

On XXX, while traveling at 75 mph on a major interstate highway, this 2024 GMC Sierra Crew Cab suffered a sudden and catastrophic internal engine seizure, resulting in an immediate and total loss of propulsion. This defect put the safety of all occupants and surrounding motorists at extreme risk, forcing the driver to navigate a completely unpowered, rapidly decelerating vehicle through high-speed traffic to reach the shoulder without the aid of engine power. There were absolutely no warning lamps, error messages, or mechanical symptoms prior to the failure; the engine locked up instantaneously without any advance warning. Following the incident, the vehicle was flatbed-towed to an authorized franchise dealership (Dossett GMC in [XXX]), where it remains un-repaired and is currently available for inspection by the manufacturer or federal investigators upon request. Critically, this vehicle was previously presented to a certified General Motors dealership at 34,766 miles for inspection and service compliance under Federal Safety Recall N252494001 (which covers engine component failure and subsequent loss of propulsion). The vehicle was cleared as passing the manufacturer's inspection protocol at that time. The total engine failure and seizure occurred less than 9,000 miles later at approximately 43,634 miles. The catastrophic field failure of this vehicle demonstrates that the manufacturer's current safety recall inspection and remedy are insufficient to identify or mitigate the defect, presenting an ongoing and severe risk to public highway safety. Engine seized at 23,291 miles, approximately 3,661 miles after GM's authorized dealer performed a PicoScope inspection under Recall N252494000 and certified the engine as passing. July 2025 recall attempt was documented as incomplete with no remedy available. November 2025 inspection passed the engine. Engine seized March 2026. New engine installed under Special Coverage N252494003. New drivability concern — hesitation and lurch at low speeds — appeared immediately after the repair.

Engine failure after passing PICO test. Engine completely locked up on a busy highway without the ability to even put it in neutral. Yes, confirmed by dealer that there were metal shavings in the fluid. Inspected by authorized dealer. No lights came on in the vehicle prior to the engine failure.

Traveling Northbound in the left lane on [XXX] approximately 1 mile prior to the [XXX] exit. I increased my speed to move to the right lane and exit. After moving the the right lane and signaling to exit the highway a notification appeared on the gauge cluster stating to shift to neutral and restart the engine. After coming to a complete stop at the stop light I attempted to restart and nothing happened. I contacted OnStar for roadside assistance to get my truck and trailer towed and was informed they do not cover towing of the trailer. I accepted the tow of the truck and contacted the towing company who charged me $300 to tow my trailer 15 miles home. This happened late morning on Saturday and by Monday evening I was informed my engine seized and GM will be covering a replacement under warranty. My truck is less than two years old with 23K miles. The 6.2L engine was inspected a couple months earlier for the engine recall and was deemed ok. Clearly the inspection process is not very robust. I was told I could be without my truck for 1wk, 2wks, a month, but they are not sure since I’m 4th in line for a new engine and the truck first in line has already been there a month. I was also told GM is showing inventory in Michigan but the engines are not shipping. I’m currently waiting on a loaner vehicle but was told I cannot tow with the loaner vehicle which throws a wrench in my plans. I passed the recall inspection on 12/17/2025 and the higher viscosity oil was put into my vehicle. On 12/25/2025 my vehicle's engine shut off while I was traveling on the highway (I-25). The vehicle went into to neutral and I had to pull over to the side of the highway without power. The vehicle started again and as I was merging onto the highway it shut down again. The truck started again and I was able to drive it home. There were no codes found when I took it in for service on 12/26/2025. On 01/24/2026 I was driving on the highway (US-40) and I had complete engine failure. I had to get my vehicle towed to the service center and a new motor was installed. On March 27th the vehicle's engine shut off again while driving on the highway (US-191). There were no codes or check engine lights on this time either. The service records state that the starter mount stud was loose.

The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the low oil warning light illuminated. The contact stated that every 2,300 miles, the oil reservoir was refilled with 2 quarts of oil. In addition, the contact stated the failure occurred after the first oil change was performed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, the contact was informed that the oil usage was normal. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 5,122.

GM 6.2L L87 was recalled. I took the truck in at 32,000 miles. GM dealer perfromed a Pico Test, motor failed. Motor replaced with "NEW" crate motor. I was without a truck or loaner for 3 weeks. Dealer called me when new motor was almost complete. First they said it would be a couple more days because they started the "NEW" motor and it had no oil pressure. They contacted GM Tec and they tested it again, it tested with too-high of oil pressure. GM then instructed them to replace the oil pump on the "NEW" Motor. I got the truck back a week later after being in the shop 3 weeks. I drove a total of 1,200 miles, 400 miles we're highway in one long trip. The balance was local. I went to start the truck one morning after it sat all weekend and the "NEW" motor was knocking like an old diesel. I video'ed it and sent to my service advisior, I was advised to bring it back again. Vehicle has been at dealer now 9 days, dealer took oil sample from "NEW" motor, it was found to have metallic matter in the oil. They contacted GM Tec again, it took GM Tec 3 days to respond, Last Friday GM Tec said pull the oil pan and take pictures. As of the typing of this email I have no loaner because there's a wait list for loaners, GM will only reimburse me $25/day for a rental and a truck rental is $105/day which I refuse to pay for GM's defects out of my pocket.

October 24, 2025 I had taken in my vehicle for recall 25V274 Loss of motor power. Mine was deemed unaffected and given the oil change they were doing as part of that. Today it died while I was pulling a trailer with a RZR on it. I had drove about 90 miles with a stop midway when I did have the engine turned off. Then it just quit. My vehicle only has 13k miles on it. Not sure if police report was filed but they were called and there directing traffic because it stopped in a busy intersection. I had to be towed, and pay a separate fee to have the trailer towed. At 1000 miles on the truck it had to be taken in for an infotainment screen replacement.

driving normally → brief stumble/sputter/deceleration → engine died/no power → check-engine light → vehicle coasts with no throttle response → would not restart, then restarted briefly with rough idle and immediately died. Reproduced. Towed. Dealer has not yet seen the vehicle. Inspection. No. Notification. Check engine light illuminated, truck automatically went into neutral. Safety. We were driving in traffic when problems occurred.

I was driving and lost engine power in the left lane of a freeway, cut across traffic and coasted to the shoulder. Had truck 6' off of road, though with semis and cars passing at 70mph, I left and waited in the ditch for the tow truck. The electronics worked, but the engine was dead and would not start. When the tow truck arrived, the wheels were locked up and they used rollers to haul the truck to the dealership. After the dealer inspected the truck, they sent a message saying they could not turn the engine over by hand. The engine had metal shavings in the oil filter and after removing a valve cover, found metal contamination circulated throughout the engine. The engine, radiator, oil cooler lone, and battery junction box all require replacement. This truck has a 6.2L L87 engine, and the dealer has had several other vehicles with the same blown engine failure. The truck was in for the recall on this issue about a month before the engine went out, they placed a pico scope in the engine to check the drive shaft, and then added a heavier oil. No warning lights came on until the engine died.

Engine Failure. I was driving down the highway pulling a trailer and the RPMs raced up and I instantly lost power. Had to try and get over to the right lane/shoulder after losing all power. Extremely scary situation going 75mph on a 3 lane highway in the left lane. Luckily I made it to a safe spot but once there, I could start the truck. It. Would sit a power cycle. Tow truck couldn’t get it into neutral so had to drag it up the flat bed. After being towed to dealer they confirmed the engine was shot and ordered a new one on March 9th. We are now over 30 days without my truck. This has not been inspected by anyone besides the dealership it was towed to and the dealership I bought the truck from and use for service. My truck was in the shop many times prior to this. Had to have the cam shaft replaced before the recall fix was published to dealerships. Once fixed my wife picked it up with my child and once they left the dealership it started vigorously shaking again and she brought it back to be told it was a fault plug and plug wire. Once our VIN came up for recall it passed the test and they put new oil in and sent me on my way. A couple weeks later it was acting strange again and I brought it back for them to again say it was a faulty plug/wire. About two weeks after this is when the engine locked up. Truck has 38,000 miles and doesn’t feel safe for our family. What can we do?!
