The contact owns a 2023 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that the panoramic sunroof exploded while driving at approximately 40-50 MPH. The rear section of the sunroof glass had shattered into several pieces without impact. The contact closed the shade, and the glass fell inward. There was glass inside the shade and the roof. There were no injuries. There was an abnormally loud sound like a handgun or several balloons popping. The vehicle was previously inspected, and there were no issues found with the sunroof. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, and the dealer stated that a rock might have caused the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer referred the contact to the insurance company for assistance. The manufacturer was contacted, and an appointment was scheduled with the local dealer. Additionally, the manufacturer provided a loaner vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 24,038.

I was driving on the freeway no where near an overpass going about 65mph when the front panel on my panaromaic sunroof exploded and glass went everywhere. There is no signs that a rock could have possibly hit it. My safety was at risk because I could have crashed and broken glass rained down on me. There were no warning signs and the vehicle has not been inspected yet, but it will be.

1. Component and Availability: The panoramic sunroof shattered spontaneously. The failed component was replaced by Myrtle Beach Hyundai, but I have documented the damage with photos, and the vehicle is available for inspection to show the remaining glass debris inside the structure and the damaged headliner. 2. Safety Risk: The sunroof shattered with a loud, gunshot-like noise while driving at 60 mph on a highway (I-95), causing extreme driver distraction and potential loss of vehicle control. Furthermore, a large amount of glass shards fell into the cabin and remains trapped inside the headliner. These hidden fragments continue to rattle, causing ongoing distraction and posing a risk of injury to occupants if they fall through the damaged interior fabric. 3. Confirmation by Dealer: Yes, the problem was confirmed by Myrtle Beach Hyundai. They replaced the sunroof under a "goodwill" gesture, although they initially claimed it was not a warranty issue. 4. Inspection by Others: The vehicle was inspected and repaired by the authorized Hyundai dealer (Myrtle Beach Hyundai). No police or insurance reports were filed as it was a spontaneous failure without a collision. 5. Warning Symptoms: There were no warning lamps, unusual noises, or any symptoms prior to the failure. The shattering occurred suddenly and without any external impact or provocation on January 12th.

Driving down the freeway at normal speeds and my panoramic sunroof literally just exploded, raining tempered glass all over the interior of the vehicle while I was driving. No evidence that it was caused by any road debris, objects, nor falling objects from the sky. I wasn’t driving under a bridge and no cars/trucks were immediately next to me nor in front of me. Traffic was flowing at normal speed. I wasn’t injured but was certainly startled and distracted for a moment to gauge what had just happened. The dealer is looking into it. Claims it could have been caused by a rock. That seems to defy the law of physics and the glass actually look like it bowed from the inside out as if too much pressure was being applied to the glass. Searches online seem to point to several class action lawsuits and plenty of reports of similar exploding sunroofs!

Car is 7 months old. We had it less than 2 weeks and a rock hit the windshield and caused a crack, which we had professionally repaired the next day. 3 weeks later another small rock hits the windshield and it cracks to the point we have to have it replaced. 5 weeks later another small item hits the windshield and it cracks and we have to have it replaced again. Today, a small rock hit the windshield and caused a crack that we will be having repaired tomorrow. I have never had a car where we had to have a repair or replacement of the windshield more than once every 1-2 years and this is the 3rd windshield in the car in less than 7 months. My insurance has covered the costs so far except for the time and trouble of me having to take time off of work to go to the windshield place and have it repaired or replaced. I complained to the Hyundai dealership about this situation and the service manager told me "maybe you should drive on a different road". We drive this car 2 times a week on well traveled paved freeways. This is insane and makes me concerned that the glass is too thin potentially being a danger in the case of an accident. Plus when you pay 45k for a car, you would expect the windshield to last more than a month at a time.

I was driving on the highway & my sunroof exploded. Glass was shattered & rained down on me & my occupants. 1/The sun roof - I have since vacuumed the mess, but it is still not repaired. Available for inspection if needed until I get it into the shop. 2/ I was driving 65 mph when the loud noise (phone gave a warning of decibal level not safe) - broken glass & glass 'dust' blowing on us / breathed in by us. The shock of it happening when surrounded by busy traffic on a highway. 3/I have made many calls into Hyundai to get it taken care of - they are not returning my calls. 4/I initially took it into a dealership (Ken Garff-Surprise) & they did not seem interested in inspecting - had a glass company reach out to me to replace the sunroof thru my insurance. 5/No warning at all.

When driving in dark areas with low outdoor lighting, the instrument panel is reflected in the drivers window. Aside from being distracting, there is obstructed visibility where the reflection occurs. I have made repeated calls, that go ignored, to Hyndai Customer Care, brought it to my service dealer upon request for protocol, who could not react because it was daytime. The instrument panel happens not to be recessed as in other cars I have had. I simply want suggestions on how to alleviate the problem. Thank you
