This morning before my drive to work, a service vehicle soon message popped up on the screen. During my drive to work the vehicle began to respond sluggishly and lose power and acceleration on the highway. My safety and the safety of others was put at risk and the vehicle was unable to maintain highway speeds. I was able to make it to work driving at reduced speeds, and after parking the vehicle received a message on my Ford App of a Powertrain Malfunction / Reduced Power alert. My vehicle was serviced by Ford on 06/20/2024 for a recall related to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

Premature failure of both front CV axles. The vehicle had an extremely unsafe vibration in the front end during acceleration. Dealer has replaced both axles under warranty. This is a known failure and many of these vehicles are experiencing premature failure. Warranty will cover but failures are continuing to happen. Many owners have replaced the axles multiple times, prior to getting to even 65k miles.

I was driving on the freeway driving eastbound on 152 and I switch to the fast lane to pass a vehicle and the throttle stopped working, the truck lost speed and the truck turned off, a message popped on the screen saying that I needed to put it in park. I put it in park put the hazards on and attempt to restart it and it would crank but wouldn’t start. I did this until the allowed amount of times reached its limit. I attempted to put the gear in neutral but the knob was stuck. The truck was at a slight angle as I was going uphill and couldn’t get it to move. I find the release lever to make it neutral and it didn’t work but now that lever got stuck all this is going on while the traffic is at is heaviest. The truck stalled until 2 hrs later when a tow truck came to pick it up. I got dropped off at a safe location and the truck turned on and would shift into gear but it sounded bad. Info screen says something about not being able to park and the key is stuck on the truck still.

My vehicle sits at about 26k miles currently. I experienced extreme shaking coming from under the vehicle under acceleration. The issue happened while going up a hill with my whole family. I had to pull over to inspect the issue as it felt like a wheel was coming off. Upon visual inspection both CV Joints were leaking grease all over the undercarriage of my vehicle. A screeching grinding and clunking noise was heard as I continued to drive. This noise went away shortly after, however the shaking upon acceleration continued. It's important to note that I do not take my vehicle off road and is mostly driven on paved roads to and from work and has never been overloaded in anyway. After I took the vehicle to the Dealership, they confirmed that both half shafts were failing and were disintegrating. The passenger side bad enough that it had expelled most of the grease. Continued use would have led to complete failure and could've resulted in an accident. On a vehicle with under 26k miles.

Had front half shafts replaced under warranty at 12k miles. Currently at 22k miles and experiencing the same vibration/shudder at about 50mph. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Failure of a half shaft could leave the vehicle stranded or could cause loss of control. Problem was already confirmed by dealership and half shafts were replaced. Problem is presenting itself again 10k miles later. Problem is well known with other owners. No warning lamps.

Transmission Failure. Following a 550 mile road trip over two days. The transmission would fail to engage in Drive and Reverse until the engine was throttled to 4000-4500RPM. Transmission felt like a Manual with failing clutch, would slip until slowly engaging after running at high RPMs for a few seconds. The condition appeared after the first day of the trip, and was intermittent, occurring only during standing starts. Once the vehicle was moving, there was no problem maintaining speed. Over the next two days the condition deteriorated to the point where it was occurring almost every time the vehicle was started and an attempt was made to start from a stand still. It began to become noticeable shifting from 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 as well, where it felt like the transmission was slipping during acceleration. There were no warning lamps or indications from the vehicle that there was a failure. This caused a loss of power and acceleration, which endangers the vehicle occupants in situations where power and acceleration is needed, such as merging, crossing intersections, or making defensive driving maneuvers. This vehicle was towed to a dealer, where the dealer validated the concern, and the transmission was replaced under warranty. Repair notes state that the transmission converter had failed. The transmission was returned to the manufacturer during the service visit. There are multiple instances online of other vehicles with this transmission having the same problem.

Driving down road at 45 mph as usual. Car suddenly shudders and as I pull to a stop car is stuck in neutral. Will not receive gas. Suddenly lurches into first gear, almost making me hit who is in front of me. I pull into center lane and the car is frozen and won't move. I restart the car and it stays stuck in first gear revving high. I limp it home given I'm a few minutes away. Could have caused a serious incident.

How to use these: a complaint is one owner’s report, filed voluntarily and published unverified. Patterns matter more than any single story. If several owners describe the same failure at similar mileage, put that system at the top of your pre-purchase inspection list. Back to the full 2022 Ford Maverick Later Release verdict →
